Another great australian film! Awesome! realistic, true and frightening much much more than any american super production of this genre has ever achieved in the past. A must for great excitement fans!!!
It's this kind of earth friendly misinformation that gets people to lose a leg or an arm. Just because somebody has never been bit, doesn't mean they never can be bit. We've all seen less aggressive creatures jab at people as a defense mechanism or simple curiosity, but will the reason really make a difference if you're about to lose a limb? I understand the thrill of it, been there, done that, but theres a saying; 'Keep knocking on the devil's door, and sooner or later somebody's gonna answer.
Sharks are killing machines. There are no negotiations with it when you're left vulnerable. It may 'allow" you to have a swim with them now and then, but I'm sure most people are in groups during these encounters which will discourage any predator(such as lions, wolves), but it still doesn't mean they wouldn't like to try. Scratches and grazes are all I have taken away from my experiences with sharks and I'm not looking to take that relationship to the next level. Fear is appropriate.
I been around sharks, even rescued one that got caught in some fishing nets but it bled out in shallow waters before any medical attention was brought to it. I still think that people and sharks should not share the same water because you really dont hear about the number of cases where a shark just decides to "test" you. Some divers and surfers are dedicated to sharing the sea with these creatures that they will often say it was their own fault for being bit. But of course thats not always true
It wasn't a bad movie, it's just that it's not realistic. Sharks don't go after people like that. And they don't EAT people. They bite them mistaking them for fish or seals. Their bites sometimes are deadly. But they don't purposely torture us. Tigers and lions are more dangerous than sharks but due to the media no one realizes that. However, in fantasy land this was a good movie.
I'm terribly scared of sharks, they're my biggest fear, with that being said I would never try to swim away from a shark. Are they dumb? Sharks are attracted to movement. The best thing you could do is stay completely still, and if they attack you, fight back. Try to poke it's eyes, something, but trying to swim away is the dumbest thing especially knowing there is not any land really close by that they could swim to.
If i ever went out to sea, i would ALWAYS hava harpoon gun or sumthin in defense if something was attacking my boat or if i got n 2 a fucked up situation like n the movie
This is why I'm terrified of open water. Though experts say sharks don't like to eat people there is always that chance that I'd rather not take no matter how beautiful the ocean may be. I'll see it via nat geo.
@SacredSt33l Ok "cool guy" let's drop you in the middle of the ocean and see you not freak out. Because you know damn well that if you saw a shark like that, you would swim as fast as you can to get away from that thing, another important fact that you're missing is that it is a MOVIE, and this really had happened to Ray Boundy in 1983, god people like you have extremely flawed information. -_-
@XxAnimeBoi4ever Okay anime boy :) The first time i touched a shark was when i was 15 years old. I know that they are really strong and could kill me without any problems, but they are NO MONSTERS and they dont attack / kill humans for no reason. While being in the open ocean the sharks have it easier when they hunt other animals living in the ocean then hunting humans. Also... sharks dont attack boats... Get some background information kid...
@SacredSt33l If they weren't monsters they would'nt be causing human fatalities would they? You make it sound like they would'nt hurt a fly. Second of all, since when the hell did I say sharks ATTACKED boats? They did'nt attack boats in the movie either WTF? I did'nt need background information about YOU either. You just was vaguely misinterpreting the situation that you would have been supposedly put on. Nice rant huh? Coming from a kid :P
@XxAnimeBoi4ever Oops, sorry, missunderstood sth with the attacks on boats^^..
Now back to our discussion... You say, anything thats causing human fatalities is a monster? Ugh... No? And i dont say that they dont hurt a fly, the fact is just... they fking attack if they feal threatened or one of the other reasons above. L2read. And btw, whats your definition of "Kid"? Is that you argument you always use to conclude your annotation? :)
@SacredSt33l I did'nt say everything causing human fatalities is a monster, and stop defending them with the repetitive fact that they feel threatened, I doubt that any person swimming in the shark's radius would obviously consider them a threat so that would justified right? Plus me concluding my definition of "kid" was a response to "Get some background information kid..." I'm not denying it, just the fact that your purposely bashing a movie that was meant for entertainment.
@XxAnimeBoi4ever You dont seem to understand what i say^^ I dont say anything against entertaining movies at all, but this one defines sharks as bloodthirsty monsters, and THATS what i fking hate.
@SacredSt33l What the other user said -.-" and besides you would be the one to criticize just this ONE, you act like other movies define sharks as bloothirsty monsters anyways
@SacredSt33l But I'm not talking about how many they kill, Secondly, I did'nt ask for the rate of deaths from coconuts__-. You need "background information" yourself, I mean seriously? The reasons for your 1st comment aren't 100%, they can attack a human whether or not they're threatened. What if a person isn't bleeding, provoking a shark, or swimming like a seal? A shark can attack whenever it likes.
@XxAnimeBoi4ever Sharks are not as clever as dolphins, they dont think about what they could do.... they dont attack for no reason, they only attack if they got a reason!
@SacredSt33l lol Bet you never been in open water before. Sharks will nip at you sometimes out of curiosity, and then that tiny lil graze is all it takes before;
a.) You start peeing your shorts
b.) You start shitting your shorts
c.) You start to panic, flapping around like an idiot about to be fish food cause somebody told you sharks dont just attack people unprovoked.
d.) You start to think back on that youtube comment you left while that shark has your left leg for lunch.
@SacredSt33l You forgot e) they are curious creatures and want to explore new things they find, but they don't have hands like humans, so they use their teeth. Which is kinda unhandy for us humans.
@SacredSt33l What was a joke? 1. they explore things with their teeth, aka they bite things to get a better grip of what it is. 2. When sharks bite things that is alive (like humans) things that get bitten tends to get hurt... i dont see the joke in that..
@SacredSt33l Incorrect. In middle of the ocean..there is 90% possibility to get bitten by great white shark,if she see you alone..she will take a snap test to check are you edible..and than..bye bye
@SacredSt33l Yes, you are right! And Zombies only attack people if....well, if they existed. You DO know this is a horror movie not based on actual facts??
I bet i find your comments on the Piranha 3D Trailer too
@SacredSt33l Well.. Sharks are curious animals.. they follow, may take a bite to find out what it is following. Therefore this movie can be true, so stfu with your "i know everything" shit..! This is a great movie..
i would not try and RUN from the shark but i would find his eye and dig into it as hard as possible OR just tie my friends down on something and let the shark eat them while i happily swim away :)
Pisses me off how these movies disillusion people that sharks are evil creatures and that they should be killed and feared. As if its a sharks fault (in reality) that they're a top predator.
Not god - once again people will have bad image of sharks. THEY ARE NOT MONSTERS! Most of all accidents are because this animals are thinking that man is a seal, sea leopard etc OR when man is scared/agressive or is bleeding.
This flick scared the HELL out of me....Primal fear. I've woken up numerous mornings since seeing the movie & the first thing I'm thinking about is when he makes the initial sighting. Just seeing that terrifying shape develop out of the blue, turn, then fade back to blue....Brilliant shot, clearly one I'll never forget.
This is a great movie, the pace is kind of slow at the beginning....once in the water,it gets really good.As far as shark movies go,this is the second best shark movie EVER...Jaws 1975 is still the best shark movie ever made.
@1996TGH How many people go missing at sea every year? The answer is over 100...I'm willing to bet that more than a few of that 100+ end up being eaten alive by sharks.
@MrPoolove Open Water was good....in the end it all came down to accepting ones fate. Can you imagine how terrifying it would be to be left in the middle of the open ocean...what a nightmare scenario.
shark attacks one of the four people. the one who got bitten dies because of no medical treatment . sharks don't like human so the other three, swims a shore and survives. THE END
@t366h849 only a few attacks a year, im 16 i live in south australia we get the biggest great whites in australia, i was attacked once was clinically dead but now im still here. ya know its all good
@t366h849 I wouldn't, from what I've read, Australia's all fucked up weather wise, with flooding, fires, category 5 storms, etc... I say pray for them but stay home.
Shark Safety Tip: NEVER splash or swim around. Be as still as you can. If the shark begins circling you, wait until it gets close enough, and hit it repeatedly in the nose.
Actually the shark would only eat one of them. Humans eat so much horrible food that we taste terrible to sharks. The only reason a shark would bite a human in the first place would be through mistaking it for a seal.
i cant begin to tell you how much i loved this movie. the actors did a really great job. they even used a real shark. i can begin to imagine how terrifying it must be to be stalked by a great shark. i really must say watch and see. this movie
This is arguably one of the most realistic shark movies ever made. The films goal was to deliver an authentic lost at sea, shark attack experience and I think it did just that. If you've imposed the Hollywood movie formula onto this movie you've misunderstood what it is and set out to be. It's a glimpse into what a grim situation like that might actually be like. A very realistic and terrifying glimpse IMO.
@mecgo24 Realistic?! sharks don't eat people, more people a year are killed by vending machines but no-one says they eat people... it's an urban myth that sharks eat humans!
@MrWataoo This movie is based on a true story. 3 people got lost at sea. They were stalked and hunted one by one by the same shark. Only one person survived and barely at that. That very same shark attacked him, Ray Boundy, but he was able to escape and get to a reef where he was later rescued. So to say sharks don't eat people is completely wrong. Maybe they don't prefer human flesh, but in this case it seems the tiger shark did.
@mecgo24 If you're lost at sea in shark infested waters you should very well fear sharks and understand how best to avoid getting eaten by one. People have had the ill fortune of becoming shark meals. That's just an undeniable truth.
@mecgo24 about 5 people a year (7 billion people live on earth) are killed by sharks, none of them get eaten, most die cause of blood loss. You have to be the unluckiest person alive to get attacked by a shark it's that rare!
@MrWataoo I agree with you. Attacks are very rare. But keep in mind the amount of people stranded at sea is a pretty low number too. But you're wrong. Sharks have eaten people. They don't usually prefer us. We're too bony for their tastes, but there's always a degree of variation in species and their behavior. So there may be a few out there that find us pretty tasty. Which I think may be the case in this movie. Also a desperate shark might eat just about anything.
@mecgo24 they don't eat people, yes there is are on average 5 fatal attacks a year but these people arn't eaten they have been bit and most likely bled to death. Shark attack happens because sometimes they mistake us for seals and once they realize they will go away. The majority of people survive if on that rare occasion they are attacked.
@MrWataoo You're right they usually just have a nibble and realize they don't like it. But the shark that this movie is based on wasn't one of those sharks. It had a nibble and liked it. Maybe he's an evolutionary fluke. Maybe 1 in 1000 sharks enjoy human flesh, but this true story proves that some of them do. And even if the shark doesn't you should still be worried that it's mistaken you for a seal and could mortally wound you.
@mecgo24 well who knows I'm still not convinced that the shark was actually eating them rather than defending it's territory. But I'm still not going to worry cause the likelyhood is so small, it's like saying you should be worried going on a plane when you shouldn't as it's the safest form of transport, but on rare occasions accidents happen.
@MrWataoo It is pretty unlikely. But I think if you happen to find yourself stranded in shark infested waters you should at least make sure they don't mistake you for a seal. Don't just assume they aren't going to attack you because they have and very well could.
@mecgo24 lol, how do you know if this story is true, and if so how can that one person prove that it was one shark! they look the fucking same.sharks dont like our meat. we taste like shit to them
@DJ3G3T5 The story is true. Just look it up. I'm not sure how the attacked man decided that it was the same shark. But the fact is 2 of his mates were killed by a shark or more than one shark. It may be true most sharks find our flesh repulsive, but keep in mind what desperation can cause a creature to do. Sometimes you don't have the luxury of eating what you prefer.
same shark? hahaa! please show me some documentation of this...because I rather believe those documentaries and books i have read of sharks behavior than reading your bullshit-fiction-monster-mega-jaws-kinda load of crap you just vomited.
@desierro *sigh* Yep. Same shark. At least that's what the survivor of the attacks believed. I never said all sharks are man eaters. I said that this shark is most likely a fluke. He just happened to be one of the few who actually liked what he got a taste of. You're aware this is based on a true story, right? 2 people WERE eaten by a tiger shark and the only person that survived to tell the tale barely made it out alive himself. This actually happened. You're not denying that are you?
@Harminoff2000 sharks don't eat people, more people a year are killed by vending machines but no-one says they eat people... it's an urban myth that sharks eat humans!
Wow.. i could make this movie too just randomly clip shark mouth, people screaming shark documentary film again, people screaming, people being dragged under water by a mouth, shark scene of it eating a bag of meat with blood so you think it's the person. DONE

Sharks are killing machines. There are no negotiations with it when you're left vulnerable. Fail.
And its definitely not based on "true events", sharks are attacking humans only if
a) they're bleeding
b) they swim flat on the water ( looks like a seal )
c) they are attacked first by the humans
d) feel threatened by the humans.

1996TGH 1 month ago
@1996TGH How many people go missing at sea every year? The answer is over 100...I'm willing to bet that more than a few of that 100+ end up being eaten alive by sharks.

MUCH more intense, scary and better than open water.

Shark Safety Tip: NEVER splash or swim around. Be as still as you can. If the shark begins circling you, wait until it gets close enough, and hit it repeatedly in the nose.

macmiller1011 1 month ago
Actually the shark would only eat one of them. Humans eat so much horrible food that we taste terrible to sharks. The only reason a shark would bite a human in the first place would be through mistaking it for a seal.

A very realistic and terrifying glimpse IMO.
mecgo24 1 month ago 2
@mecgo24 Realistic?! sharks don't eat people, more people a year are killed by vending machines but no-one says they eat people... it's an urban myth that sharks eat humans!
MrWataoo 1 month ago
@MrWataoo This movie is based on a true story. 3 people got lost at sea. They were stalked and hunted one by one by the same shark. Only one person survived and barely at that. That very same shark attacked him, Ray Boundy, but he was able to escape and get to a reef where he was later rescued. So to say sharks don't eat people is completely wrong. Maybe they don't prefer human flesh, but in this case it seems the tiger shark did.
mecgo24 1 month ago
@mecgo24 If you're lost at sea in shark infested waters you should very well fear sharks and understand how best to avoid getting eaten by one. People have had the ill fortune of becoming shark meals. That's just an undeniable truth.
mecgo24 1 month ago
@mecgo24 about 5 people a year (7 billion people live on earth) are killed by sharks, none of them get eaten, most die cause of blood loss. You have to be the unluckiest person alive to get attacked by a shark it's that rare!
MrWataoo 1 month ago
@MrWataoo I agree with you. Attacks are very rare. But keep in mind the amount of people stranded at sea is a pretty low number too. But you're wrong. Sharks have eaten people. They don't usually prefer us. We're too bony for their tastes, but there's always a degree of variation in species and their behavior. So there may be a few out there that find us pretty tasty. Which I think may be the case in this movie. Also a desperate shark might eat just about anything.
mecgo24 1 month ago
@mecgo24 they don't eat people, yes there is are on average 5 fatal attacks a year but these people arn't eaten they have been bit and most likely bled to death. Shark attack happens because sometimes they mistake us for seals and once they realize they will go away. The majority of people survive if on that rare occasion they are attacked.
MrWataoo 1 month ago
@MrWataoo You're right they usually just have a nibble and realize they don't like it. But the shark that this movie is based on wasn't one of those sharks. It had a nibble and liked it. Maybe he's an evolutionary fluke. Maybe 1 in 1000 sharks enjoy human flesh, but this true story proves that some of them do. And even if the shark doesn't you should still be worried that it's mistaken you for a seal and could mortally wound you.
mecgo24 1 month ago
@mecgo24 well who knows I'm still not convinced that the shark was actually eating them rather than defending it's territory. But I'm still not going to worry cause the likelyhood is so small, it's like saying you should be worried going on a plane when you shouldn't as it's the safest form of transport, but on rare occasions accidents happen.
MrWataoo 1 month ago
@MrWataoo It is pretty unlikely. But I think if you happen to find yourself stranded in shark infested waters you should at least make sure they don't mistake you for a seal. Don't just assume they aren't going to attack you because they have and very well could.
mecgo24 1 month ago
@mecgo24 i have watched many documentaries explaining how to avoid being attacked, such as keep still and don't splash about.
MrWataoo 1 month ago
@mecgo24 the movie is based on a boat that capsized, thats it no sharks were involved!
MrWataoo 1 month ago
@MrWataoo ....1 person survived, they were found...i doubt that person randomly made up that everyone got eaten by sharks
xAwakeningShadow 1 month ago
@mecgo24 lol, how do you know if this story is true, and if so how can that one person prove that it was one shark! they look the fucking same.sharks dont like our meat. we taste like shit to them
DJ3G3T5 1 month ago
@DJ3G3T5 The story is true. Just look it up. I'm not sure how the attacked man decided that it was the same shark. But the fact is 2 of his mates were killed by a shark or more than one shark. It may be true most sharks find our flesh repulsive, but keep in mind what desperation can cause a creature to do. Sometimes you don't have the luxury of eating what you prefer.
mecgo24 1 month ago
@mecgo24 i think, yes they were attacked, first by one and the blood of the fiirst victim attracked other sharks.
DJ3G3T5 1 month ago
@mecgo24
same shark? hahaa! please show me some documentation of this...because I rather believe those documentaries and books i have read of sharks behavior than reading your bullshit-fiction-monster-mega-jaws-kinda load of crap you just vomited.
desierro 1 month ago
@desierro *sigh* Yep. Same shark. At least that's what the survivor of the attacks believed. I never said all sharks are man eaters. I said that this shark is most likely a fluke. He just happened to be one of the few who actually liked what he got a taste of. You're aware this is based on a true story, right? 2 people WERE eaten by a tiger shark and the only person that survived to tell the tale barely made it out alive himself. This actually happened. You're not denying that are you?
mecgo24 1 month ago
so i guess the question is, how long can they tread water without being eaten by a shark, i mean thats the whole movie right
