I have always said that those who have been "classically" trained can do anyhting, from singing popular songs, dancing and playing instruments. Liberace was a classical pianist but made a fortune by not playing Mozart. This lady is a surpurb opera singer and she can "nail" this tune. Paul Warfield is another example with, Old Man River.
@wattever333 Now don't be so 'glass half empty' wattever. The poor woman has just forded streams, climbed mountains, followed highways, and being an exhausted old Maori, wants to stop, smell the roses and wander along one of life's pathways. She should take a limo, just like the von Trapp's did, driving into Italy and then on to America. Frank Sinatra did it 'My Way' and there were highways and byways there too. Life is like that.
It is so wonderful to see what a glorious material as Richard Rodgers music and Oscar hammerstein II:s text can inspire a great performer as Kiri Te Kanawa to manage to do with her voice. Here is truly huge phrases filled with vocal glory!
@Culpano Tell that to the opera audiences she has performed to for the last 42 years. She has been a major operatic star at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Covent Garden in London, La Scala in Milan, the Paris Opera, The Berlin State Opera, the San Francisco Opera, and many other opera houses all over the world. And she is a great singing artist. I think that you just don't like opera singers.
I have listened to this interpretation for more than a year. Everytime it draws tears out of me, specially at the finale. I also get moved by her performance on "I drem of a Dream". Fenomenal singer!!
No cabe duda una de las grandes damas de la ópera, con gran personalidad, carisma y sobre todo que es toda una dama en toda la extensión de la palabra.....me encantaaaaaaaaa
WOW - thank you so much for sending this video to me, sisselfan! It is just GREAT! And of course, AngelVoiceFromHeaven, thank you so much for sharing!

I don't know what's more challenging... dealing with the ending of this masterpiece or fighting the tears while listening.

@truthbtoldUSA Yhe hardest is to sing it and not crying while singing - this happened to me when I was singing Bach's mass in B-minor.

Existen en el mundo pocas voces tan hermosas como la de KIRI.

Yes, it was absolute perfection. If humanity could be saved with a single song, this would be it.

@Culpano She "can't sing"? Then you are deaf. But don't post such an insult on YouTube concerning of of the major operatic soprani in the world.
