Watch out for these retards with Courage Campaign! Also, the signature gatherers were telling the truth, they were not misrepresenting at all. Everything they said was on the petitions and part of the bill. They have to summarize, otherwise people will bitch about how long it takes. So courage campaign, make sure you know what the hell you're talking about before you post videos. You knowww you ask for signatures on online shit all the time.

It's just to get it on the ballot, voter initiatives require substantial amount of signatures to qualify for an election. For instance, in California, a constiitutional amendment requires 8% of the electorate (total votes casted) for the previous Governors Election. Therefore, they require over 1 million signatures with even distribution of all counties in the state. Petitioning has been criticized because the gatherer is paid. Can't you get paid for doing something you believe in?

Republicans have blocked Democrats' attempts to eliminate the electoral college (by constitutional amendment or by all states at once). Either nationally by counting the popular votes or by divvying up the electoral votes in each state, Democrats would win. Republicans are preventing this same thing from happening in Texas, where Democrats would pick up many electoral votes. This is another Karl Rove scheme to prevent Democrats from having their votes count and be counted.

There are states that do, but they are insignificant. Maine, for example, divides its two electoral votes.

The Constitution says that if the electoral college votes are to be changed in a state it has to be done by the legislature, NOT by ballot initiatives.

Every other state gives all their electoral college votes to the winner in the state. Splitting the electoral college vote would divides california's votes evenly among both major candidates. The votes would effectively cancel out, and california would have no real voice in the national election.

This is pretty much an admission by the Republicans that they will lose California in '08.

It wouldn't be even, but it would likely swing 20 electoral college votes, that would have went to dems, to Republicans - a 40 vote difference, which could likely be the deciding factor in a majority of future Presidential elections.

Congressional districts have been gerrymandered to be either 65+% Democratic or 65+% Republican. This change doesn't bring any competitiveness to CA. I wouldn't count on this not passing if it gets on the ballot.
