one point of order in regards to IRL ponies and horses (may not apply to MLP). Ponies and Horses are the same thing, seperated by height and not by species. You can cross breed ponies and horses easily and if 2 ponies had an especially tall child (strange mutation or combination of genes) then the child would be a horse.

A Horse is any equine that is 4ft 10in or taller at the shoulder

A pony is any equine that is 4ft 9in or shorter at the shoulder

I don't know if anyone has mention this before me but Princess Celestia banished Luna by using all six Elements of Harmony by herself.

I guess that throws out the Alicorn theory of having a limit of three.

Where did the alicorns come from? What if they are from dragon-pony unions, huhu *evil* x3 (considering that they are rare, live insane long, boosted magic and grows much bigger with time - seems like dragon qualities to me - and dragons are known to be able to breed with anything... it wouldn't be strange if Discord was just the last of a long tradition for ponies to keep dragons as rulers/gods/guardians).

I like the name Alicorn but I have to wonder if it's ever used in the show. If it is then that means that Alicorn is title given to living gods and goddesses of the world in which Equestria exists. Besides who thought pegacorn was so hot? Why not Unisus? Or better yet just call them Teds. Also, isn't Pegasus the name of a certain flying horse? I'm not perfect with my Greek Mythology so maybe somepony can clear that up.

Not even once. Neither is "pegacorn".

This I can sympathize with. Any time we make a new word for a new thing you enhance the language.

It can be argued that "pegacorn" is an already existing word for this phenomenon, but screw that- make your own words.

That is the official name of a race of ponies on the show (unlike pega/ali corn)

Because people use alicorn as a word for pegacorn so heavily, the rules of linguistic evolution say it now is an alternative to pegacorn. It still means the substance horns are composed of, but sociologically the word has been transformed. Far more people use it in reference to pegacorns than anything else. Language is as language does.

Personally, I think alicorn sounds cooler than pegacorn, but not by much. People can call em' whatever they want as far as I'm concerned.

The park was probably the best place to put him. If she dumped him down in the center of the planet he might've gotten a destructively chaotic idea while he was down there. Same thing with tossing him into space. Throw a giant comet shaped popcorn kernel at Equestria or something. Also a fantastic place to keep an eye on him.

Moving on,

I think that there's still a possibility that there were no pegasi or unicorns before Celestia came to "rescue" equestria. We already know that Celestia is not always straight about things, and it's easy to draw whatever you want in a picture. On the other hand when time came to make statues of specific ponies, notice how they are all earth ponies. Either whoever created the statues was racist, or there weren't any other ones

Another idea is that pegasi and unicorns are Discord's corruption of ponies (akin to long legged bunnies), that got "stuck" that way after the take over. It would explain why there were so few (each was individually picked [on] by Discord). While the fact that they have wings or magic, being a tremendous evolutionary advantage, explains why after 1k years they would be so many. What evolution doesn't explain is: why there aren't pony pegacorns, nor why Celestia is a horse one.
