  • how come his hair isnt fucked up then..?

  • Zach has angry raps because you wont wake up to the truth about the world. He has passion and a revolutionary spirit that many Hispanics are blessed with. This is who he is when his mind isn't on you ignorant pricks who dont get up and do something about your failing country.

  • i didn't picture him as a good singer but he is

  • despite his angry raps he seems like a nice guy

  • wo hes so peaceful man i lik it but i lik it better wen he jumps aroung violently and raps to the guitar lol

  • you know, he looks like Bob Marley

  • well i think zack de la rocha is a genius,he plays guitar, drums, has an awesome voice and writes awesome lyrics, rage is my fave band since 1990 or something,i'm from portugal by the way,so i like to hear spanish speaking music like this one

  • It's nice to hear him sing for the first time. Still can't believe this is the guy from RATM. He sings good.

  • Dude, Veracruz is not that shit. Veracruz shares the beautiful sones jarochos y huastecos and the respectful musicians blessed with the skill of playing it. You ignoramus!

  • dude learn to speak spanish, i meant that the place where is zack is not chile is veracruz ... i think you're pretty ignorant dude

  • Learn to WRITE better in Spanish! I'm not talking about where pinche Zack de la Rocha is, I'm talking about the mierda he plays that he claims is "son jarocho" when it isn't! Read for a change!

  • dude son jarocho is better than the stupid things yuo must listen to, dude son jarocho is a tradition is such an ancient music... but anyway leave it.

  • I listen to authentic regional Mexican music from REAL Mexicans dude. He's NOT playing Son Jarocho! I love Son Jarocho, TRUE SON JAROCHO! Not the shit that's coming out of Zack de la Rocha, he and you must be on the same page of ignorance. You need to be schooled in Regional Music of México and get your facts straight!

  • I'm mexican dude, you won't teach me what is a son jarocho jajajajajajajaja

  • I'm Mexican too pendejo! AND a musician so I know what I'm talking about. Whether you choose to be ignorant or not is your problem, but I proved that Zack de la Rocha is full of pendejadas and I don't care if it angers his fans or ignorant people such as yourself. I also welcome differences in opinions as long as their respectful and civilized about it.

  • naaaaaaaaa me la pelas puto tu y tus diske buenos gustos musicales

  • Then why are you so disrespectful toward de la Rocha? You can just say that it is not that type of music without cussing. Why do you hate Zach so much?

  • I didn't say that I "hate" him, I was just criticizing his commentary on Son Jarocho since he was not only making false statements about the music, but he was also degrading the honorable Jarocho musicians who worked hard to preserve Son Jarocho for many generations before him. If anything, I'm disappointed with his remarks and that people praise what he said without question.

  • I get what you're saying but I thought Zack was right. Can you please write back and let me know what you find incorrect about his information? And also Son music is originally Cuban and I thought that Son Jarocho was a sub-genre of Son.

  • Thank you for your response. He's incorrect in saying that Son Jarocho music has "lost" its "true African roots" and that the improvised verses can be compared to hip-hop and rap....

  • Son Jarocho's music is very much indigenous and that is a trait that is highly ignored still to this day. Just because Son Jarocho has a lively rhythm to it does not mean that it is African or that it has African roots, Africans can't monopolize lively rhythms because México's indigenous peoples also carry that trait in their music. There is no strong evidence to support the assumption that Son Jarocho has African roots.

  • People need to recognize the indigenous contributions to Mexican music and that it is the indigenous rhythms that make our music stand out from everyone else. The improvised verses in Son Jarocho are NOT related to hip hop and rap because Son Jarocho improvised verses follow structures such as décimas, coplas, etc. and have a certain number of stanzas per verse.

  • Now, hip hop and rap also have improvisation but it's done in a way that makes rap and hip hop unique, just as how the improvisation in Son Jarocho makes Son Jarocho unique. Just because both styles of music have improvisation doesn't mean that they should be compared to one another, they're both entirely different. Zack is not in any way correct in his statements and I feel he should just stick to Rage Against the Machine since that is something he does best.

  • Also, the Son is NOT originally Cuban and did not begin in Cuba because Latin American music simply does not work that way, this is no "chicken or the egg" matter. The Son is an umbrella term used for forms of complex dance rhythms as opposed to the rhythm used in songs. México has many different sones that vary state by state, region by region.

  • Cuban Son is entirely different and is its own genre and the same respect goes to Son Jarocho. It has nothing to do with Cuba and was not influenced by Cuba because it is a Son native to the South Veracruz and North Oaxaca region of México. The only music genre in México, and Veracruz in particular, that is influenced by Cuban music is the "Danzón." The Danzón became popular in both Veracruz and Cuba at the same time. Hope this answers your question.

  • Thanks so much for responding, truly appreciate it. I agree with a lot of what you're saying but Son IS originally from Cuba and it did truly begin there. It's just a known fact. Now, some say that two sisters from the Dominican Republic bought the sound to Cuba but however the genre got into Cuba it doesn't matter. What matters is that Son was further developed and grew in CUBA as we know it today.

  • Likewise. But what evidence supports your statement that the term of Son originated in Cuba? The use of the term Son in Cuba only applies to Cuban son and not to the rest of the sones in Mexico and Latin America. Mexican Son does not have any similarities with Cuban Son and there is no evidence of any kind that says otherwise. When I speak of Mexican Son, I mean Son del Mariachi, Son Huasteco, Son Jarocho, Son Abajeño, Son Pascola, Son de Tierra Caliente, etc.

  • México has numerous Sones that are diverse since they vary region by region and are not even of any relation to Cuban music. I am a mariachi musician myself, have been one for 12 years, and grew up with mariachi; I know from experience that the rhythms in Son del Mariachi are INDIGENOUS. Cuba did NOT give México the Son, México gave MÉXICO its Sones and Cuba gave CUBA its Son.

  • aaaaaaaaa huevos puto

  • yes. Son jarocho is beautiful music. no doubt about it. But, in fact, he is in Chile, you just hear the accent of the rest of the people. He was some kind of special guest in this country house near Santiago, Chile.

  • How the hell does he know what tradtional son jarocho is?! Many would mostly validate anything he says about son jarocho anyway because he's famous from Rage Against the Machine w/o giving a shit about the prof. jarocho musicians that've been playing son jarocho for generations. If you want quality, try Mario Barradas, Lino Chávez y Conjunto Medellín, and Los Costeños.

  • fool... be happy that someone actually REACHED to their mexican roots to learn the music and keep in alive in a country (USA) that eliminates culture, unlike most mexican-americans.. shit, I would even say MEXICANS too.

  • Don't "fool" me xolopihtli! One, he hasn't "reached" his Mexican roots, far from it. If he plays that shit in Veracruz, they'll laugh at his ass! I for one, am a mariachero and I'm studying arpa jarocha from a jarocho musician: Fermín Herrera!, and learning the true Mexican language: Nahuatl! Zack de la Rocha is a disgrace to Mexican culture.

  • dlkjdf

  • wat happened to u?!?!?!

  • I don't think I've ever heard him sing. That's cool

  • i didnt know zack could play an instrument. my respect for him just went way up

  • He actually plays drums too

  • ya he also plays the harp, accordion, french horn and rips a mean solo on the nose-flute.

    respek

  • I never see him anymore since rage ended, so whatever he does and whenever he speaks, it's like EF Hutton. Nothing else matters. I really respect him for never forgetting where he comes from, and I love his face. He will never lose his boyish good looks. . . :)

Good to see him again, for real.

  • Doppler, I don't think that he lost it. I think he is getting connected with his roots while expanding his horizons, musically. It's a beautiful thing, I look up to Zach and he is willing to learn about his background and of others. I wish I could do the same, if it wasn't for this pure war of stupidity, I would do the same.

  • ok ok he looks like a mouse lol

  • Chile is an amazing country. So beautiful in all ways. I was fortunate enough to spend 6 days in Santiago then 2 in Vina Del Mar/Valaparsio. So nice.. ! Zach is cool too. Cool song

  • A traditional song like that shouldn't be recorded. The soul of the song is gone because its recorded in video and audio form. No video or recording will ever compare to the experience of actually being there. Sitting with De la Rocha. And hearing him play.

  • You are right about no experience comparing to being there, but my friend, but for the many of us that haven't been there, this is the next best thing. Please don't put id down. Best wishes...

  • HERO

  • He sings beautifully and...has very long fingers? lol

  • nice

  • CIA put the fear of life into that boy Zach. No wonder he´s mellowed out n been layin low for the last couple a years (Bush years). Crawford boys put a contract out on DelaRocha.

  • Why? What did he do?

  • "Why? What did he do?" - Sailing

Listen to his song "Bombtrack" (look for it on YouTube). You´ll see why he´s a wanted man in Crawford. Deservedly so.

  • he looks like a squirell but man that shiit is dope son....so was this recently or before RATM started? cuz he didnt even have his dreadlocks there......

  • if you read the info you would know that this was in 2005. 'nuff said.

  • was that tinto brass

  • WOAH!!! zack can sing,fucking brilliant !!!!

  • Deveras voya tratarle gracias...comoquiera.Y Que Es Un Chinoryz.?

  • Honestly i have to meet zack so he can teach me that song...i got the lyrics almost it goes something like this..."dentro la calladera hermano si te has perdido". i would love to know what this song is called.

  • okay, zach's performance aside... what is going on with his face? That's gotta be the goofiest face I've ever seen someone make while playing an instrument.

  • seriously!

    but he's the man regardless.

  • Lol i couldnt stop laughin at it !!!

  • MARRY ME ZACH.

  • LOL

    VIVA ZACK, VIVA RATM!

  • RATM nunca vino a chile vino zack solamente

  • wow 214 comments and still nobody explains why was Zack in Chile, why nobody knew, and who were those old people in the video.

  • their his aunts dumb ass read once in a while

  • In cantubiool's defence, it just says "con tías" and "tía" can mean just "lady". If it said "con sus tías", then it would mean "with his aunts" and there'd be no question about it. But because it just says "con tías" it sounds like "with ladies/women".

  • In Chile the word "tias" isnt "ladies/women", as it could be on Mexico, it's just "aunts". I know, i'm from Chile.

  • "In Chile the word "tias" isnt "ladies/women", - CIX83

That´s B.S. dude! In Chile you call any older lady that´s "nice" to you "Tia". I know, my maid is "Chilena".

  • I guess one will never know until you ask Zach. lol.

  • I guess that saying is true, "Ignorance is bliss."

  • omg...this makes me love him like 34u6y3867389789769766 more.

  • you probably don't even know shit about him! He's too good for you so back off!

  • Can anyone send me the lyrics to this song?

I the song name, but can't find lyrics to it.

    *********

  • Zack for president, for real

  • I hope, you know that Zack - thank god - would never want to be a president.

  • graciasss

  • such a long ways away from rage, yet just as beautiful

  • what is the name of the song he plays?

  • hi, it's a mexican rhythm called "son jarocho" it's like "beat jarocho (jarocho means from Veracruz)". I can't understand what really say the song but i understand it's a song about a man who works in "safra" (one of the hardest works for farmers and ver low pay)to get sugar

  • his face is funny when he plays (Da teeth)

  • well if you don't like it, don't bother leaving a comment. The rest of us rage fans seem to support him no matter what he's doing. Not just because its zach but because he makes good music!! check out the stuff with son de madera and well any of his solo stuff. it is all amazing!

  • Nobody's saying they don't like it, it's just that it's so different from anything else Zach has done, it's just weird....good, but weird.

  • didn't mean for you to get defensive about it, or sound like a bitch sayin it.

  • Lol, it's weird seeing Zach not screaming his ass off with rage.

  • lol

  • lol wtf is this ^^

  • obvio po merme...

  • Que onda el loko tiene familia chilena???

    ALGUIEN Q ME RESPONDAAAAAAAA!!!!!

  • No he's mexican, but likes chile!

  • Awesome! Thanks for uploading... Zack is a hamster though ;)

  • 2:40 and forward is soooooo good!

  • Undeniably one of the most talented musicians out there. This is the same guy who put put a significant print in the alternative hip hop that we have all heard. Plenty of imitators out there.

  • He's one of the most talented people out there. We need more like him in this fucked up world of ours. See you next month in Vagas.

  • Wow can you really get any more talented and fucking awesome than Zach de la rocha and Tom Morello. Those two and Maynard Keenan are fucking so badass.

  • Those who like Zack, thumb up on my comment!

  • zack has such a sweet personality

  • Very interesting to see this other side of Zack. He seems so simply content and happy with his jarana. :)

  • Grande Zack, Por la JUSTICIA el DOLOR

  • wow what a great voice he has

    q copado

  • i cried when i saw this...

  • what documentary is this from?

¿de cuál documentario viene este extracto?

  • wonderful...just fucking wonderful, man

  • Zack De La Rocha is an example to all those coconut Chicanos (brown exterior white interior) who refuse to embrace their roots and culture and believe that because they were born in the US they're just as equal as any white American(still Europeans to me).Zack is a rare breed, a unique individual and artist like him has nothing but my undivided admiration and respect. (if only he'd run for president mmmmhh) Alex Lopez Chicago

  • I think it's ridiculous. I was born in Argentina and have italians, bielorussian and argentinian roots, but live in Europe since I was six, and I'm proud of my personal story and culture, and I constantly bring it with me. After all, why shouldn't I? When I meet a latin(except brazilians) I speak spanish with these brothers(well cousins), and all this stuff makes me feel "special". If they refuse their roots, well, I'm sorry for the culture, not for them.

  • cool video. never seen him talk much.

  • anyone know where I can find the lyrics?

  • search in google for: "la caña chuchumbe"

you find them in the first result page that is:

    Estoy viva: marzo 2006

  • CIA put the fear of life into that boy. No wonder he´s mellowed out.

  • He total rocks! oooh my gosh he rocks, wish i knew him U____U

If i saw him on the street.... wow... :E

  • @____@ por que no avisaron que venia!?

  • I'm still looking for a jarana, they're hard to come by

  • me too!! i've been looking for a few months now and can't seem to find anywhere that carries them.

  • If you were to find one, at least a nicely handcrafted one in the states, I'm sure it'd be pricey

  • yeah i'm thinking about just ordering one. it will probably be pretty pricey but i'll see how much before i decide if im going to get it or not. maybe i should try making one. haha

  • Thanks for posting this video.

  • hermoso!

    grande Zack!

    mis respetos!

  • BARACUDA

For those of you who play guitar:

On a noraml six string you need to tune the 5th and 2nd strings down a tone so:

I know it doesn't sound as good on a six string but please post if you have any better suggestions.

  • It won't let me post the guitar chords cos they think i'm posting an email address/website. I've posted it on the digitalspy website, you can search la cana or zack de la rocha there.

  • eso...raspale compradre.

  • anda en mi pais ohhhh ctm la vaolaitaaa ajoJOajoAajo he is in mi contry =OO |m| =)

  • what song is he singing here?

  • I've felt in love with the song "la caña". do you know were I can find it,even made by zack(he sings wonderfull), if it exist?

    anyone? trauld?

P.s. if Zack is wanted by the Bush administration he only has to be proud of it! the worst administration ever of the U.S. And if americans don't want the world to say crap about their goverment, it shouldn't invade the other countries for fictitious reasons.

  • ¡Adoro zach de rocha de la!! and i also agree with AnelyMG haha

  • He looks kinda like Bob Dylan.

  • Zack layin low in Chile...LMAO!!!! Ten bucks says he got run outta town by the Feds in ´01. Seriously folks, you tellin´ me post 9-11 America is gonna put up with tunes like "Bombtrack" ? Don´t think so.

  • Of all the RATM songs that could piss off the feds, you pick Bombtrack?

  • Tom Morello had to keep the sh%$ going somehow while Zack lay low for a while. Ten bucks says the Feds were gonna off him. "Bombtrack", pffff. Zack´s thoughts on Al Qaeda anybody ?

  • dumbass, 'al quida' is arabis for 'the database'. This database was created by the CIA in the 70s and it was the data of all combatants who were fighting for the CIA against the russians ... The Osama family are the closest bussiness partners to the Bush clan ... he doesn't need to speak out about the so-called 'war on terror'. If you have the slidest clue about what this guy is about you wouldn't be asking this ...

Go inform yourself, search for 'terrorstorm' on video dot google dot com

  • Right now, Zack is a wanted man in the US...After the crap he said ´bout Prez Bush at Coachella...whoah, he´s toast. Dead man walking.

  • A wanted man for speaking words? LOL

Dude, you're talking about the US, not SOVIET RUSSIA!

  • WTF ? Why did they move this video to Dutch YouTube ?

  • thgey did not ... youtube = ONE ... 'dutch' only refers to the language in the interface ... the daata/video is the same ... altough some vids will be different because of user genreated content especially from Holland and Flanders.
