Bought a 97 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 SLT V8 MAGNUM 5.9 LITER

Great Trucks my friend! I have a 99 1500 Quad Cab, and I LOVE it. Even though a truck goes through gas, most folks forget that you dont buy these guys for mileage anyways. For gas, you can either afford the fuel costs, or you cant. I had a friend call mine "gashog," I called his cracker box car a "death trap!" The 5.2 and the 5.9L V8 engines are absolutely bullit proof if you take care of them. If you change the oil every 2k, 300K to 400K miles before overhaul isnt unsual! Thanks for sharing!!

@packardnut ya this thing is a pig on gas took it for a road trip 500 miles 1way it used 2 tanks of gas costing me like 600 just on fuel but i love my truck its a 5.9 close to 300k and have not once touched the motor other then plugs and little things along that line doesnt touch a drop of oil at all

i got the 5.2 Liter 318 motor my check engine light came on turns out missfire on cylinder 8

@GaubatzNinety3 ya my o2 senor is bad on mine thats why the engine light was on i hooked it up to our computer an thats what it read

@k73mrviking thanks man its been a good truck so far aint the easiest on gas i was runnin thru snow that was as high as the bumper i took the 245 tires off an put on 285

@09JrSmith Sweet. I have two. A 85 3/4 ton i use for my wood truck and my 1 ton dually cummins i use to pull the derby cars with. They are great trucks but they do like the gas and they defiantly are front end eaters.

@willymywonka not very good at all its a total pig on the highway i was lucky if i got 15mpg i drove it 500 miles on a road trip an used 2 tanks of gas

@09JrSmith I"m about to buy a 97 2500. Except for the intake manifold gasket, can you tell me of other problems these trucks have? I'm more of a chevy guy, so i'm not a dodge guru.

@willymywonka they had problems with the trannys the overdrive burns out on em my dad has rebuilt tons of em as well he did mine for me check the tranny fluid if its dark or smells burnt walk away from the deal unless you can have it rebuilt for cheap other then that the motors r good an tough as hell

@willymywonka if you buy it get the tranny fliud flushed out new fliter put in an throw in a bottle of lucas for trannys
