Ok, granted...it's a great song, and it gives the destruction of the enterprise D a WAY cooler feel. It's epic, it's tragic, it's cool. You also hit some spot-on cues. The problem? Just like with ALL of these videos (and there are millions) people seem to think that the great music will make up for THE COMPLETE LACK OF SOUND FX AND DIALOG. If you're not going to even try putting in dialog, then don't show lips moving.
@banglefaar nice flame to such an old video, but i hope u are restored to normal emotions by now? ;-P it is a great moment and before "overusing" it was (and still is) a great music. so what. ^^
@banglefaar well, while I might have a simple mind enjoying other music than you, I at last am able to accept variety and different taste. maybe there is a "great music" god who will judge me later, but until now i would say: let people do their music they like. anyway, sorry for trying to change your mind. have fun! ;)
@icewatercube Wonder what kit would of said today lol ( "fuck you michael, think im wasting my battery keeping your drunk ass in place, And dont dare eat a burger in this car you messy shit")
I remembered watching this film as a child. Having watched the TV show with my folks in the years leading up to the release of Generations, I can remember feeling a real loss at the destruction of the Enterprise D. Very underrated film.
they used a tiny CGI model. If you look at the background the saucer is less than 1 story tall, and about 30-50 meters in length and width. they shud have animated it bigger or the trees smaller
if it works, and sounds good to what is on screen, does that really matter? also if its a well known one, then that just means people will get its meaning faster
I know that all this seemed like something the TNG crew would of or have easily circumvented in the duration of the series but I mean lets give the writers of the movie a break because, they new another movie was to follow this one, they explained the Galaxy class wasn't theatre screeen friendly so they did this to get rid of it. As easily as it was destroyed who cares after all it's just a movie and the Enterprise E is just a cool. :)
I'm not 100 percent sure but I think it had something to do with it being too big and bulky and just unappealing on the big screen whereas the Enterprise E was slimmer. Although it was bigger so..that's why I am not 100% sure on that. But I remember watching an interview and the reason for it being destroyed other than for a climactic to the Enterprise D was because it wasn't theatre screen friendly.
It's probably because the model was just unwieldy so they wouldn't be able to do many advanced ship maneuvers with it. but im sure there is more to it then that considering CGI was right around the corner when this film was being made.
I hate that many angel scenes in Movies's and Series's are often used (for exampel the exploding Bird of Prey is from another ST Movie and the explotions and the running Klingons are often used in ST DS9)
The next gen crew.. also seem stupid in combat scenarios when it came to the movies, but were brilliant tactticians in the series.. it shows their was different writers. All riker would have had to do was place the shields on an auto rotation... the klignions wouldnt have stoiod a chance.. and he could have orered the ship on rapid fire
Except that the shield energy was modulating on the same number as the torpedo's were that were being fired at them, the only way you could fix that was t change that frequency or modulation, what ever you want to call it, but there's no real way to know that that was how they were doing that which out analyzing the torpedo's first, which you can't do when they are active obviously
all of the original source material mentioned that the saucer could do this.
but sometimes the sillyness of the writers was a bit much, like in ST V, we can now tell where shells come from with radar, but the Federation seems to have lost that ability, but Picard remembered it for the last movie.
and with Anti-matter, who needs bio-genetic weapons??? drop a kilo of anti-matter on some planet.... BOOM!!!
Remember the Thine Own Self episode? He should've tought Troi how to drive, but no! He just too busy wanting to see if she would tell Geordi to go kill himself!
This is so incredible!
