after i watched this i tried the trick on my dad and he guessed 333 and when i did the math it did not = 1089 it = 0

you are saying that the first digit has to be bigger than the last but thats not true ... the first 2 digits have to be both bigger than the last cause otherwise you get 99 and the reverse is not 990 but it's still 99 ... if you don't believe me try with 534 (the first digit is bigger than the last but it's not enough)

on a calculator using a pen write down a 3 digit number in descending order then subtract that backwards

then with your new number add that backwards and Presto

NO. If the number must have three digits, and the number is 99, it turns into 099 because there can be no other number than zero in front of it. It is mathematically correct because it's still 99, exept with a zero in front of it. It's like if I would write 0,8000 instead of 0,8.
