L1011 Vs. DC10/MD11? Think Mercedes-Benz 600 Vs. Lincoln Town Car. A case of "How good can we possibly make this aircraft?" as opposed to "How quickly & cheaply can we knock these things out?"
Lockheed built a masterpiece; McDonnell-Douglas built a killer lemon.
take your eyes off of the tristars on the replay and check out the background. just look at the array of beautiful classics all in their prime like the 777's of today!!
Great video! I'm partial to the TWA aircraft because I worked there for so many years, and flew every one of them to every city in the world to which they operated them - even out to Bombay!
Hey Ryan! My father worked at Lockheed in Burbank during the late 1980s and actually help rivet the structure on the TWA and Eastern L1011s in the video. He and I both want to thank you very much for putting up this video it means alot to my dad to see the aircraft that he worked on in flight even if its in the past.
@sfrenchhorn07, it's always worth the effort as long as someone's enjoying it and I'm glad both of you are. I always appreciate your comments and tell your Dad that he's my hero for working on the L-1011!
Out of curiousity, do you and your Dad live local? I'd like to take you both out to lunch and if you wanted to meet Craig (the videographer) you could do that, we could also pick a VHS video from his collection and we could dust it off and take a look at it and upload the highlights.
This is a very awesome capture of L-1011s at LAX..but I hope like heck that Craig shot that China Airlines 747SP (I saw the tail) as the LTU L-1011 positions to take-off! Thanks for sharing this Ryan!
@RyanBomar I hope he does, but it doesn't matter you guys just have some amazing stuff! And I was wasting my time back then taking 'still photos'..what was I thinking? Oh I know, instead of spending my money on a good VHS cam..I was wasting it on silly things.
Another great one Ryan, boy do I remember that HA L1011 use to have some looong takeoff rolls. When he took off on the North runways he used just about every bit of that runway, and always went to Tom Bradley when he took of on the South runways!
L-1011 is my most fav aircraft. thank for your great video, ryan

Absolutely fantastic! The L-1011 is one of my favorite aircraft of all time. Kind of sad and yet great to see those classic TWA and Eastern liveries.

@Starboard76, unfortunately he didn't capture it on this one. I'm sure he may have it in another video so I'll be looking in the future.

The public never did accept this beautiful airplane, and I guess they are all hauling cargo now.

great flying plane, I flew on one from LAX to Hawaii and it was still the best flight I have ever been on

this must have been shot about 20 years ago because eastern airlines went out of business in 1991.

Last 2 seconds of the video has the L1011 taking off, a United 737-200 landing, and a 727 waiting to cross. Good times...I miss those days
