What makes me livid is communists that use the term progressive to identify themselves. Goddamit Communist you need to proud of who you are and stop trying to hide who you really are.

BARRNEY(fudgepacker)FRANK is a TURDTARD who after raping tax payers of millions to put in his pocket wants to cut our military defense by 25%! FRANK is a political IDIOT!!!
Obama is front man for the OLD zionist NWO!! Progressive? Whats THAT mean? Whos he laced the whitehouse with - all the OLD garbage! TRASH! Grass roots? Yeah, hes got the blthering morons thinking hes some GOD or jesus christ come back for a latte!....& to "save" them.
I'll tell you what Obama is going to do and WHO he is! He's employed by the zionists to CRAM the communism these ultra wealthy banker families want to rule the planet under their oligarchy.
When are we going to have a pragmatic Republican President? Why is it that liberals have to be so careful? These reactionaries are so brazen, they'll cut Social Security and start wars and not care what anyone thinks. Why? because corporations own both parties. This undermines democracy.
Katerina vanden Heuvel sounds so O'Reilly-esque in her hollow defense of Obama. Doesn't she realize that the term "progressive" is defined relative to current events? Being a corporate shill *may* be pragmatic, but it certainly is not progressive. La Follette is probably spinning in his grave.
Clearly:we are attempting to enforce and impose our interest against the will of another countries peoples by engaging in a protracted war versus the Taliban: Arogance and ignorance are walking hand in hand ,unless the Afgan people will actively support our forces they should be withdrawn. There is nothing progressive about the tired almost Vietnam like attitude that anything less is either moral or adequate.
Obama is backed by the very bankers that those who voted for him think he is going to fight.
This woman is either delusional or willfully omitting key facts because she has an agenda. Either way she is serving her own "progressive" interests, not those of the country.
The Real News should frustrate all monolithic political stances, right or left, with hard facts.
why cant it be both cultural/historic and political? after all, i didnt vote for obama for culture or history...i voted for him for political reasons.
furthermore i think your diminishing the influence progressives had in getting him nominated/elected. and progressives voted their politics...not for historical or cultural reasons.
I would argue that a progressive agenda (and libertarian) are the closest, or the groups fighting the most for return to abiding by the constitution.
You're an idealist, which i can't fault you for. But you seem out of touch with the darker cynical workings of the political elite. You choose false hope over no hope.
Libertarians = socially liberal + fiscally conservative
Progressives = socially liberal + fiscally liberal
Th difference is that Progressives want taxes to pay for other peoples' liberal lifestyles. Libertarians think you should pay for it yourself.
Therefore Libertarians and Progressives don't have much in common.
i am an idealist...but i was fully aware of what obama was when i voted for him. I live in VA, a swing state, and i didnt want mccain to win, pure and simple
yes, i am aware of the philosophical differences between progs and libertarians. i wasnt avoiding that distinction, just an observation on two parties on opposite spectrums who are trying to make a difference and restore the constitution
each has their own agenda, but for each party, restoring the rule of law seems to be a priority
i think your making the mistake of equating democrats to progressives. its like equating libertarians to republicans. im not sure if there are any progressives in congress. ron paul is a libertarian, but is often marginalized by his own party.
im sure you would agree that repubs and dems are two sides of the same coin...
i dont view Harman, Emanuel as progressives. And I would say that true progressives want a restoration of the rule of law.
and furthermore, i know that a lot of progressives are incensed at obama because they are realizing that obama is a continuation of corporatist/imperialistic policies.
I don't like being sold Obama is if he were the messiah, by both political and private institutions, then have it just be more of the same.
The Real News is, if it wishes to stand up to its name, responsible for holding Obama's and his supporters' feet to the fire if they sell us their agenda. When a woman like this is able to ramble on vaguely about the general progressive platform and not go into detail about what it entails, i have to call BS.
but i love the nation magazine...and i dont think they are giving Obama a break. Neither is Democracy Now.
But it goes back to my earlier point. Mccain offered nothing. Obama offered something...now if it was all lies then we the people can call him out as a liar.
Mccain wanted more of the same, and i viewed that as a danger to the country...but we cant get mad at Mccain for not doing what he never said he would do.
your right though...i did choose false hope instead of no hope.
the reason for that is simple.
obama can be challenged on his positions because of his promises. i and others can make sure that he lives up to the hype. And if he dosent live up to his rhetoric...we can accurately call it "false." Its up to the people to make sure he lives up to his rhetoric.
whereas mccain offered nothing in the form of "change"...therefore i and others cant challenge him when we get no "change".
i would have loved to vote my conscience...but realistically...kucinich, paul, nader simply were not going to win. so i had a choice...its unfortunate but i voted against mccain, more so than for obama.
If i lived in a blue state...I would have voted my conscience. Or if Ron Paul was the repub nominee...i would have voted for him.
Obama is a globalist puppet, nothing more. Just like Bush. Obama can do nothing but make voters feel good. If you study Kissinger (R) and Brzezinski (D), you'll understand that these men are anti-Constitutionalists who see US sovereignty and nationalism as a threat to globalist designs.
Read Tragedy and Hope by Carroll Quigley, if you haven't.
A cut in the military sounds like a wise move to me!
Also to save; dismantle the DEA and fire that stupid Drug Czar that BUSH appointed; release all nonviolent drug users, so we dont have to build MORE prisons for more AMERICANS!
END prohibition and you destroy the Black Market and the Drug Cartels that depend on OUR US dollars!
Allow OUR America farmers to grow HEMP and STOP growing cotton that pollutes OUR FUCKING Environment, for my grandkids!
Ron Paul, a texas republican has more pragmatic ideas for America.... "progress back to our roots, OBEY THE CONSTITUTION....which is the pursuit of liberty, freedom and prosperity".
Obama is continuing the banker bail, er THEFT, and is going to spend Trillions on pork. The America people are being robbed blind. Obama is at the helm. He's a fraud.

Obama's election was a cultural an historic milestone. It was not a political one. She is conflating these together.
Obama is a politician. All politicians should be urged to do what is best for the country. She is instead urging us to get behind Obama.
She thinks it's more important to be progressive than to restore this country to it's original constitutional designs.

I don't think that liberal progressives want to restore the constitution.
Why are they clogging up the 1st Amendment with false concepts such as 'hate speech'?
Why are the trying to dismantle the 2nd Amendment?
Why is Obama keeping his war powers and not trying to undo the distortions of the 4th Amendment and 'probable cause'?
Why did Jane Harman (D) introduce H.R. 1955 allowing police-state restraint of the internet?
Why does Rahm Emanuel (D) not even question the accuracy of the no-fly list?
