  • her voice is purer than the water of scandinavian springs. sissel, you will never be outdone

  • Oh the pain oh the ecstacy, I cry I rejoice. It has it al. It reminds me of the saying as above so below. This is the closest thing to heaven.Thank you sisselfan!

  • This classic song sung in a beautiful classic way by Sissel. What a treat! It is sung with reverence and awe in a pure angelic voice. What more can one ask! It is a foretaste of what heaven is all about. Praise God for giving us a gift like Sissel!

  • Its also adopted as the national anthem for the Acadian people living in what is today Canada.

  • TOTUS TUUS VIRGO MARIAE!!

  • Sissel, the Princess of Norwegian music.

  • i love this voice and this wonderfuel lady. She is the best. The best voice of this world and a wonderfuel lady. I am a very great Fan of you.

  • She has a voice like the cantor at the parish I go to. Great voice! The only problem I have with this version is that she pronounces some of the Latin words incorrectly, for example, coeli should be pronounced 'chéli,' not 'kehli.' The latter would only be correct in classical Latin, but this is liturgical Latin, which has a lot of the same pronunciation rules as Italian. C followed by e, ae, oe, or i is always pronounced like ch.

  • @LouisvilleTorn8o

Please don't have a problem with the pronunciation. Liturgical Latin is usually from the Italian tradition but they are others like Germanic Latin (often used in performances of the Brahms Requiem etc.). In the German way coeli is pronounced "tsoeli". I'm not sure if there is a Nordic pronunciation or variation but if everyone in the performance is using the same there shouldn't be a problem.

  • @sisselfan Many thanks.

  • GORGEOUS! I love the idea of setting the "Ave Maris Stella" to "Noel Nouvelet!" How did I never think of that? And what a heavenly voice too.

  • maravilloso

  • @dott1006 : this is not E. Grieg's, though he did composed one for mixed choir a capella. Yet I don't know who is responsible for this version ;)

  • this song is intended to my cousin's wife SHEILA.....REST IN PEACE!

  • In this performance, the text _Ave, maris stella_ has been set to the 16th century French carol melody _Noel nouvelet_. You can find a number of peformances of this carol on YouTube. The Edvard Grieg setting of the _Ave, maris stella_ is very different than the one here.

  • @Apeliotes Thank you, I was wondering about that. I appreciate your help.

  • A breathtaking performance! Thank you and greetings from Deventer, Holland.

  • this is heavenly. every time i listen to it, i feel awe. i love the way sissel starts singing from the balcony, as if an angel from up above. and the choir is the perfect addition to her voice. the orchestra, voices, place and atmosphere - everything just creates such an unforgettable experience!!

btw, i was surprised to find out that the music was composed by edward grieg. i wonder how the original hymn sounded.

  • Maristela's my real name because I heard this song. But I had never heard him, came to know of its existence only at 42 years of age. And to hear him now, at 47 years old, thanks to the internet. Sissel's voice is surely one of the most beautiful today.

Thanks for your reward us with great and rare talent.

    Maristela.

  • Wow! The best version I have ever heard in my whole life. Sissel is the greatest singer of our time. Fantastic!

  • I love the sound of the choir! Its heavenly :-)

  • Sisselfan, sembra di essere...in paradiso!

  • This is fantastic!!!

  • This is beautiful. I like the single solo better than a mulititude of singers.

    Thanks and God Bless!

  • sisselfan, This is so celestial sung by

Sissel. I have performed in this beautiful

domen. Roros is also a historic city in

Norway. Sissel also performed a music special for PBS here. Tusen Takk. - Penny

  • Beautiful. 5*****

    Love Carina X

  • This is beautiful, but why do they all have microphones? That's pretty unusual for a choir.

  • Because if they have microphones above the choir the instruments will be captured in these mics aswell. When they have individual mics. the balance between instruments and vocals adjusted in the mixer. In my opinion this is absolutely the best way in a church :-))

And i agree it is just beautiful, original Sissel keeps surprising .........

  • The Grieg- Ave Maris Stella. (St. John's College Choir.) is a lovely clear version with power of multiple voices and some nice leads... the Sissel by comparison makes that look a pale weak insipid version with such power yet purity of her voice - one would hardly recognise as being the same piece.

  • i've never heard this lady before, but what a set of pipes!

  • Wow, what a great voice shes got!

    thanks for posting.

  • Nydelig som alltid:-)

  • The awesome lovely Sissel with this great classy song.
