I run a little website that does reviews on some of the best classroom technology products out there, and I can tell from my experience over the years that people who use smart boards really do love them. It makes a teacher's job a whole lot easier! You build your lesson once and re-use them for years!

Yeah, our budgets definitely can't afford this... I know the money is not necessarily related, but keep up music and art before buying this...

That said, it does seem a rather useful technology... though relying on computers can cripple us, should the computers fail or glitch (try ringing up an order on a computerized cash register when the computer keeps glitching... without causing customers to leave)

@wierdpoplol As a teacher, I will say that when the SMART Board has a glitch, 9 times out of 10 it is because the computer in the classroom is slow, old, and is freezing. If the computer is a piece of junk, the SMART Board won't work properly.

My highschool is integrating these smart boards. We hate them. Installing them is causing alot of noise ( the ones we have screw into the wall) Simpler is always better. and it's especially frustrating having these, when your school gets rid of the microwave oven in the lunch room to save power, and an entire gym class shares one basketball to save money. and the school district is cancelling middle school sports to save money. Smart board are dumb. Regular white boards > smartboard

@MyCoolAimName1 It looks like your school doesn't receive enough funding. My high school implemented smart boards and they're really fun to use. Our smart boards roll though; we don't have them secured into a wall (except for music), and it's great fun to use as a student and as a teacher (I'm a TA). If your school doesn't have enough funds and you're having to cut other things to support the smart board, of course it won't turn out to be a fun experience. Try doing fundraising.

It's a shame your teacher don't know how to use them. Our teachers knew how to use them. :) We even watched DVD's on our smartboards sometimes, or connected them to the computer....

the most common class room size smartboard 77" is about $1,300 US dollars, for the board, and software,pen tray, pen.. then you have to supply a projector which start about $500.00 so a complete set-up is about $1,800.00 not 3,000

It's some pretty amazing technology and has a multitude of impressive uses. The unfortunate thing, at least in my school, is that these were forced on the teachers willy-nilly. They removed the old chalkboards and put these in. The problem now is that there are many teachers who need nothing more than a piece of chalk to deliver amazing lessons. The smart board, as we discovered, is not going to make an incredible teacher out of mediocrity. Many think this technology is unnecessary.

a good old fashioned piece of chalk works just as good and is more hands on than a smart board, i have spoken to numerous teachers who prefer chalkboards over smart boards citing that it encourages kids to work more diligently and what kid doesn't have fun with chalk after class.
