CO2 is used to extinguish the stuntpeople upon completion of a fire stunt. It is, in fact, the preferred agent to extinguish a person with clothes on fire.
As for Class A fires, CO2 is not very effective unless the fire has very little depth. Such a case would be if carpeting is burning without the underlying floor being ignited. However, if it is a sofa that is fully involved (cushions, frame, etc), then CO2 cannot smother the flames enough to prevent re-ignition.
