  • If you want your fish to spawn, you need to identify your males and females. When they come into their "heat" you should choose 1 male and 1 female to copulate. Seperate the other ones. It is more stressful for the female and male when they have to compete. Also do research on setting up a secondary large tank, collect the eggs once fertilized and transfer them. If u want more advice just send me a shout.

  • @mimi0674 Yes they do! Four years ago, I had a fish that was forced out of the water by the males.

I found her completely out of the water and dry. I learned Koi CPR really quickly. She was dead and brought back to life. No video though, sorry.

  • Near death experience sex is great!!! lol jk but i have an older friend who breeds koi and has 4 ponds that are bigger than his house and multiple fry tanks. its really cool to visit, always try to keep up to date on all his hints and tips

  • I place chicken wire across my pond and it deters pretty much every thing, now pretty but effective

  • check out my fry video!

  • That's awesome ..... I'm breeding koi as we speak and after seeing the mound of fishy man candy I might put them in a seperate show tank instead ...big ups though. Make sure you brush the dogs teeth ... ;)

  • @idrathrbhumpn

Just an update, no new koi survived, no fry this year.

My latest battle is with a Great Blue Heron, I have had five Koi take flight this year.

Did you have any success with your Fry ?

  • @RONtotheH Hey some advice against cranes. If you have a gradually sloping down pond they will always come and eat your fish. They like ponds where they can walk down into the water. Depth is key to combat against them. If they cant walk in generally they will not give you near the problems. Same thing with racoons but not sure you have those having that boxer. Good luck!

  • 45,000 eggs per pound of fish!!! good thing the eggs get eaten!!!
