@PhreShPimpCeSS I have to disagree with you. One can find his/her own inspiration to drive them to be the best at something,but without the opportunity, you won't have the ability to shine. Without the approriate recognition, you won't have the ability to shine. Coupled with hard work, its irrefutable that you have to know contacts and network. In fact that type of stuff should be taught, especially in predominately african american schools, in junior high school because of so many stigmas.

im so tired of ppl putting down one shade of black for the rise of a nother, were all black, all beautiful let me tell u sumthing, most men who are outside of the black race, usually think chocolate shaded women r more attractive then light, but beauty is beauty and kim had many compliments thru the show, and had high self esteem and a good amount of confiedence, they mention whitley alot is because she is the main character, vanessa was beauitful to, ugh stoop bein color struck, black is black

this is a good episode, touching on the schism of deciding to attend an HBCU or PWI. Do you attenda school with more diversity (particularly international students), and take an opportunity denied to so many people of color at those PWI schools pre-desegregation? Or, do you remain in your niche and attend a HBCU where you can get the same education, without dealing with institutional racism everyday?

There is so much colorism in this show its not even funny. All of the men lust after Whitley and other light skinned women and NEVER EVER say anything about Kim. This is probably something the show wanted to do, and I think it makes people think.

kim was told she was beautiful and had many suitors, and freddy is light skinned actaully half white, and she barely got any play kim had way more suitors then freedie, and so did jelessa, they talk about dwayne as much as they talk about whitley little hint why, THERE THE MAIN CHARACTERS

I think that they did that because in the 80s the light skin sister were still deemed desirable by the media and the creators being black wanted our sisters to know they were just as desirable.....

She has the best figure of any female character on the show, the best skin and bone structure (and teeth-Dwayne's mom, Patti-I mean Adele-would agree), combined with confidence and personality. Yes, I agree, she is the most beautiful character on the show.

Yeah that is why I loved this show it was so realistic. You know a girl who is very light skinned gets more play than a femele brown or dark skinned who are way better lookin from many black men'
