He could not do anything else at that speed. Last week I corrected some Brazilian that believed Brazil had the most drivers' titles with 8. I told him Great Britain has 14 titles from 10 champions. 209 wins in total. Not to mention British teams in F1 have 475 wins. Ferrari hired British engineers to make their winning cars.
Some weeks ago I got seriously annoyed by some ignorant yank calling himself buttnut or something. He bashed the new McLaren for having a British engine which he just KNEW would be unreliable because it's British designed. I told him that he was a fool and that British companies like Cosworth, Ilmor, Judd and others have built several championship winning engines in F1, IndyCar, CART and other formulae. Often they don't get the credit for it since non-British manafacturers pay for the name.

Yeah, but the 2000 Williams was hardly a match for the 2000 McLaren and Ferrari cars. In 2001 he was in a rather uncompetitive Benetton and nearly ended his carreer then and there. Hamilton on the other hand currently has a better poles to races contested ratio than Schumacher, and that at the start of his carreer.
@dougster84 I'm a Hamfan too not so much Button but you have to remember that there are more than results to take into consideration in someones rookie year and Jenson was actually impressive in the williams in the end but got shuffled out when Montoya came in. He finished 8th in the final standings at the end of the year which isnt bad. I think you use a poor example to show that Hamilton is better and Im a huge Hamilton fan lol.

The cars played a much bigger part than the drivers in 2006. Renault's mass damper in the early part of the season combined with their exceptional reliability put Alonso well out of reach of Schumacher. Michael did well to claw much of that lead back.

Lately Msc doesn't look that great. Makes one wonder how good his Ferrari was in 2000-2006. In 2001, 2002 and 2004 the Ferrari was easily the best car by far. In other years it was at least the most consistent and reliable.
Raikkonen led more laps than Alonso in 2005 according to stats, and in 9 out of 10 cases the driver that leads the most laps is champion. Not in 1989 with Senna and 2005 with Raikkonen. With a more reliable McLaren...

@McLarenMercedes hmm, i agree with you on everything except for saying that Schumacher was handed the best car of the time. He had to build up that Ferrari car from scratch because the engineers were clueless, it took several seasons to bang it into shape but that was his hard work. I'm not a great Schumi fan because of his past cheats but he's a fantastic feel-sensitive driver in terms of developing cars..his form is improving too P4 finishes in the last couple races. IF is F1 backwards
I've never seen Alonso driving up the field to win from 17'th in Suzuka like Kimi did.
When it comes to poles, podiums and fastest laps per races contested Alonso's percentage isn't that impressive. For one Damon Hill won 22 races in far fewer starts and he had to drive against Schumacher in his prime and Hill had Prost and Senna as team mates too.
To me Alonso is a modern day Nelson Piquet S:r. Hamilton is Mansell, Vettel is Senna. Piquet had 3 titles too...

Steward let him drive through penalty and lost 15 second with kimi already way ahead. If not the case. Alonso could easily win from 16th with kimi second.

You know, i was watching that and right after Webber's crash russian TV showed some short commercial, so when they came back and commentator wasn't talking yet. So when Alonso crashed, and that was so bizarre, because that happened in total silence and only like 10 seconds later commentator said "Wow guys, i hope you've seen that"

I agree totally and I'm not even British myself but know what country was responsible for virtually pioneering every single innovation in Formula 1 and other forms of motorsport.
Last week I corrected some Brazilian that believed Brazil had the most drivers' titles with 8. I told him Great Britain has 14 titles from 10 champions. 209 wins in total. Not to mention British teams in F1 have 475 wins. Ferrari hired British engineers to make their winning cars.

Some weeks ago I got seriously annoyed by some ignorant yank calling himself buttnut or something. He bashed the new McLaren for having a British engine which he just KNEW would be unreliable because it's British designed. I told him that he was a fool and that British companies like Cosworth, Ilmor, Judd and others have built several championship winning engines in F1, IndyCar, CART and other formulae. Often they don't get the credit for it since non-British manafacturers pay for the name.

Great car Alonso had in 2008 and has in 2009. Watch next year in Ferari. Alonso is by far the most talented driver in F1 right now. Button is crap. Hamilton is a great driver but he nearlly lost the title against a shameful Massa. By the way, these year Hamilton has the same points as Alonso with and hamilton has a superior car. Watch Fernandos partner and you will understand how good Alonso is. Alonso has won many battles against MSC... No 2 times W Champ is crap, Speacially against Msc

XD.. and alonso in 2005 was pretty lucky that the mclarens had so much technical problems.. in 2006 he was lucky that schumacher had problems ...silverstone, hungary, japan ....

i disagree. hamilton is more talanted when it comes to driving. lets remember button had a good williams at the start of his career and never took advantage. not saying hes a bad driver just that hamilton is better. just my opinion though!

A good williams??? that car was outpaced by the Jordans many races that season, was an averange car, and he made a great job. too bad they move him to Benetton and keep Ralf and Montoya. but:

@dougster84 Button was a rookie at Williams, he did a splendid job next to Ralf Schumacher. To say that he didn't took full advantage is a bit unfair imo.

Yeah, but the 2000 Williams was hardly a match for the 2000 McLaren and Ferrari cars. In 2001 he was in a rather uncompetitive Benetton and nearly ended his carreer then and there. Hamilton on the other hand currently has a better poles to races contested ratio than Schumacher, and that at the start of his carreer.

@dougster84 I'm a Hamfan too not so much Button but you have to remember that there are more than results to take into consideration in someones rookie year and Jenson was actually impressive in the williams in the end but got shuffled out when Montoya came in. He finished 8th in the final standings at the end of the year which isnt bad. I think you use a poor example to show that Hamilton is better and Im a huge Hamilton fan lol.

@dougster84 Dont forget Hamilton had the best simulation program of the world to give him the prep needed to debute succesfully in a mclaren. he made thousands and thousands virtually laps wich are just as good as real laps since todays machines can make shit so realistic

In hungary alonso could won but wrong tire choice take him out. How could he be lucky? Go do your research again and delete this post!! Well japan alonso was not lucky it was fair. Remember engine blown in monza by alonso? and alonso did get it back by msc in japan. From there on it was fair and alosno won comfortly!!!!

The cars played a much bigger part than the drivers in 2006. Renault's mass damper in the early part of the season combined with their exceptional reliability put Alonso well out of reach of Schumacher. Michael did well to claw much of that lead back.

Lately Msc doesn't look that great. Makes one wonder how good his Ferrari was in 2000-2006. In 2001, 2002 and 2004 the Ferrari was easily the best car by far. In other years it was at least the most consistent and reliable.
Raikkonen led more laps than Alonso in 2005 according to stats, and in 9 out of 10 cases the driver that leads the most laps is champion. Not in 1989 with Senna and 2005 with Raikkonen. With a more reliable McLaren...
Both in 2005 and 2006 Alonso could cruise and collect

@McLarenMercedes hmm, i agree with you on everything except for saying that Schumacher was handed the best car of the time. He had to build up that Ferrari car from scratch because the engineers were clueless, it took several seasons to bang it into shape but that was his hard work. I'm not a great Schumi fan because of his past cheats but he's a fantastic feel-sensitive driver in terms of developing cars..his form is improving too P4 finishes in the last couple races. IF is F1 backwards

I've never seen Alonso driving up the field to win from 17'th in Suzuka like Kimi did.
When it comes to poles, podiums and fastest laps per races contested Alonso's percentage isn't that impressive. For one Damon Hill won 22 races in far fewer starts and he had to drive against Schumacher in his prime and Hill had Prost and Senna as team mates too.
To me Alonso is a modern day Nelson Piquet S:r. Hamilton is Mansell, Vettel is Senna. Piquet had 3 titles too...

@McLarenMercedes Yes BUT kimi was lucky to win in suzuka because the fact was alonso was actualy faster than kimi at the begining of the race. Alonso was 5 positions ahead of raikkonen. Then alonso made a mistake by overtaking klien on a cuting chicane, but he let klien past. But rules is always rules just like hammy and kimi in spa 2008. Steward let him drive through penalty and lost 15 second with kimi already way ahead. If not the case. Alonso could easily win from 16th with kimi second.

@McLarenMercedes Plus remember hungary 2006? It was one of alonso greatest race ever among senna prost mansell. He was a rainmaster. Starting in 14th and overtaking 5 cars in first lap!! He was easily up to front for long time. What surprise me is alonso did overtake msc easily in RAIN!!!! and was 4 second a lap FASTER than anyone else!!!! Where did kimi race like that?
