Portal shortcut

this is called portal riding, and it was essential to beating some of the time trial challenges. I am sure they were aware of this and left it in as a feature if you are smart enough to figure it out.

Too bad you can't do this in Portal 2, it pushes you out of portal if you try to stay in it :( i learned the hard way and fell in sewer water.

@paclac1337 You can do it in Portal 2, it's just more difficult. Hold the arrow key to the side the exact same time you shoot and it should work.

i fucked up the level where you get the second portal thing because i put a portal on the other side of where you start and jumped to the midle then the thing that goes accross only went half way then the whole way then half way and it was the first time i played

Generally if a "ninja" solution takes more experience than the intended solution, Valve will let it slide.

when u fired ur first orange portal, it didnt have to be inside the tunnel bit, if u did it outside it would have been easier as u wouldnt have had to balance on the edge of ur portals ;)

you dont have to beat it cuz the game is so fucking easy but not if you dont have an iq higher than the one of a cactus just make portals on walls, on gronds and u make it like the never anding portal fal (portal above and unter you and you fall and fall....)

A cheat? I had to do that to beat the final advanced map, it felt like cheating but I saw no other way to get to the 3rd higher plane after the first fling.

Yeah I haven't another way of doing that either.

But still... this defies all logic and if you listen to the directors commentary they go on about how they never punish you by chopping you in half for staying in a portal... as far as im concerned thats the only reason this is possible.

When I used it in the standard levels i felt dirty.

Why did you feel dirty? This is sort of an "escape the room" game. You are trapped by this evil machine who want's to kill you, so you have to do everything you can to survive, and you feel dirty about it?
