Hey, I've always wondered... how is it that helicopters can have their engines running and their propellers going all the way, yet still be on the ground? It doesn't make sense to me. =\
Thats because, the propellers provides the lift. That much you already know. The propellers twists up and down as they rotate. The propellers are rotating but stay straight or parallel with the ground. That mean its not providing any lift even though they are rotating. Once the propellers twist upwards at a small degree incline as they are rotating, it catches air and therfore provides lift for the helicopiter. All helicopiter work pretty much the same way.
lol, listen to the Air Force Academy geeks, "huh huh, they probably graduated from ROTC" :) y'all should checkout the schools they actually go to before they train in their MOS, cause it sure aint ROTC
@JoMo91 not sure if the new variant is this way but the ah-1 and the uh-1 used the same engines and rotor and transmition system. Bell did that on purpose to use a proven powerplant from the huey when they designed the cobra to rush production for vietnam using as much "off the shelf" parts as possible. And it obviously worked.
@aaronz741 No they're not this way. The November and Whiskey versions have different engines and transmissions (thank god). If they both used the huey's engine i'd shoot myself. I'm not too sure about the yankee and zulu models. I don't work on them.
It was difficult to understand what they were saying with thair heads that far up thair ass' Wow the future of the air farce
