my dad used to work for the head office of these mines. its not only in westrand but also eastrand and any other mining town city .the water pumped out is toxic .they put the mine dams so close to suburbs as well.recent studies have shown that the drinking water from areas nearby causes health problems for some people.

Well, things in South Africa were certainly better under white rule, but this was limited to the white people. Things have gotten better for a small portion of the black communties, slightly worse for the whites, but they still lead better lives on the whole than the majority of the black peoples. There are lots of issues with the current government, but I can't image fixing the past inequalities is all that easy.

The US and other countries has obligations to ensure the corporations that are within it's jurisdiction are following environmental regulations within the county and outside of it.
