This is good effort and the organ sounds great, but it's too mechanical overall. Virtually everything is copied exactly note for note from the studio version. It would be better if the band put more of their own ideas into the licks and fills around the main ideas/riffs. Yes themselves never played this piece live the same way twice, they "felt" the song and went from there.
Most guitarist make the mistake of over distorting their guitar when playing this song - But this guitarist keeps a cleaner tone, and it works much better.
Very nice, guys, as a unit you sound awesome. I think once your drummer can "feel" the song and not have to read, the rhythm section is gonna be much improved - sounded a bit mechanical in parts, to be truthful. And you should get a lead singer, someone who can really do Anderson justice (no offense to gtr player), while your guitarist can focus on guitar and add backing vocals along with your bassist for a richer vocal sound so crucial to Yes (tho not so much in this song). Cheers from Canada.
Its cool man, least they tried it. Lots won't for fear of criticism! I'm a huge Yesfan and refused to go to the last tour as they are their own tribute band now...as much as i hate to say. Alan White can't play this song so its no real problem for the drummer. Like you say, its good but not perfect.....but will amyone ever do it justice other than 5 english chaps in 1971?
You all do a very very Nice Job!!!!!!!! The drummer is very good he does an awesome best interpretation I have seen or heard where are you guys from do you play out? I am a drummer myself, and BIG fan of both Alan's, and Bill's style of drumming.
Of course, I have played Yessongs many times and I can tell you that neither drumming style is easy to play. They are both hugely difficult to copy and sometimes because of that and because of human nature, we have a tendency to play things a bit different because of our own interpretation of a particular bar of music, note, or even silences.
that drummer needs to be replaced quickly. the drums with the bass in the first 2 minutes or so are the best part of the song. they need one who can improvise and like others below said, 'funk it up'
The drummer has his own reason to play way he does. Anyone who has this "power of funking(?)" is welcomed to perform the particular part or any part if one will.
Easier said than done, if you think about it for a moment.
Tubular Bells II by Mike Oldfield live :) It is great to hear this kind of stuff live especially when Yes did not play this while visiting in Finland with symphony orchestra.

Not an easy vocal either.

Wrong. He's playing Bruford style; it is perfect. This is Yes, not Earth Wind and Fire.
What country is this band from?

guessing from their names , i would say they were from Finland.. this IS remarkably cool version all things considered

Is that organ a Hammond/Spinet with lower part cut away to make it more compact?
konked 4 years ago
I think the drummer does a fine job. It's certainly not easy to play Bruford's parts on this song.
schweinnoisu 5 years ago
Agreed. Drummer is going along with the Alan White style, rather than Bruford which not many players are capable of pulling off.
Joe07644 5 years ago
considering the drummer is reading music.. i think "funking" this line up is out of the question
