I'm blown away by all the vitriol towards Howard Alden. Jeez people, this is by no means a "lame and gay a fake misrepresentation," as someone put it. Mr. Alden is a highly esteemed guitarist and, yeah, he's no Django--no modern day guitarist is--but he knows what he's doing. If you have a complaint, direct it towards the person who improperly titled the video, not the guitarist who provided a loose but musically sound interpretation of one of my favorite Django solos.
As many have already pointed out this ain't Django. His version is, in my opinion, is by far the the best. I can secind what Firebrand55 has said below, listen to it once and your will listen to if forever. It honestly brings a tear to my eye with his beatiful mellifluent style.
OK it's not Django Reinhardt, but a competant player nonetheless.
The orginal by Reinhardt is a guitar masterpiece, one of if not THE best solo he played......listen to it on Spotify. Only Reinhardt with his unique left hand finger fretting could produce such a breathless piece.
Careful though.......play it once and you'll play it for a lifetime.
ce n'est pas django au secours s'il vous plait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!putain les gars vous craignez !! mais la chanson est belle quand même , mais c'est vraiment la honte de dire que c'est djangooooooooooo
For the sake of clarity can people stop referring to Django - this is not Django. It's brilliant for sure (Bucky is a legend in his own right) but not Django.
why is everyone lumping jimmy hendrix and django in the same catagory?? django played JAZZZ and jimmy played rock 2 COMPLETELY different idioms in guitar NEITHER of them effected the other in any sense!!! jimmy revolutionized guitar in BLUES AND ROCK .....and django revolutionized JAZZ GUITAR u cant lump all guitarists together its dumb to even try because they r playing their own genres
Wow, this genuinely made me smile when it started playing.

every young musician should watch this / This is where it all started. If you notice django rarely looked at his fingers or strings / Watch chet atkins also simple NOT
just to get this straight I believe this might be the great Howard Alden who did the guitar parts for Woody Allens film "Sweet and Lowdown" Sean Penn plays a 1930s guitarist Emmet Ray who seems to loosely based on Django. In the film Emmet faints wheneve he sees the real Django.
Well, folks . . . yes that is Ellington in one photo, and big-band pioneer Paul Whiteman in another . . .
But the last pic is the most touching . . . it shows the type of ramshackle gypsy camp that Django was born and grew-up in. The "Good Citizens" of France have always treated them like dirt. But what can you expect from a nation with no dry-cleaners?
@jogadorlobinho getting cancer and arthritis at the same time xD just kidding . I do that too , kinda cool , just don't let the smoke get in your eyes or the cigarette slip . But that's a cool trick !

@diazconias: Happy holidays! BTW, my comment was said in jest. In the movie, it's said more than once, and even by Emmet himself, that he's the second best guitar player in the world.
Of course the REAL players sound great, and KUDOS to them. The problem I had were the scenes where Allen shows Penn playing guitar. Any guitarist knows he can't play and did not even do a good fake job. Allen should have used closeups of Alden and the the real guitarists hands playing, cutting back and forth to facial expressions and only an occasional full body shot from a long distance so as not to be able see what his hands were doing. Lowdown was letdown allowing Penn to pretend!

@wills510 I have a George Barnes' record date with Ruby Braff and they swing the hell out of everything from ol' evergreens to Beatles tunes. They used to have youtube videos of Braff and Barnes playing together, but I think they took them down unfortunately. Must have been great studying with Mr. Barnes, a true master of the guitar.
