fantastic clarity and sustain on this guitar. i was dissapointed that the bridge was not set up properly out of the box and at the cheap factory strings. these two minor problems resolved,i couldn't be more pleased.

I have owned this guitar for a while now i love how it plays the neck is so thin and light 8). my only problem is that after about 3-4 years of playing the volume nob cuts out at around 90-100%.I was thinking about replacing the electronics with two volume nobs and two tone nobs and change the pickups to gibson pickups i would have to drill holes for the extra volume and tone nobs. My goal would be to get this to sound like an SG ,is this goal obtainable?
Thanks, good review without alot of talking.....Sounds way phat!....Whats's the neck profile like? I would consider picking up one of these if the neck was '59 profile like my Les Paul Studio....
I'm thinking of replacing the Pearly Gates pickup in Amber FMT model with a JB and I wonder if it would make much of a difference in tone cause I want to play like 80's hair metal type of stuff and the Gates pickup is a tad thin to me when I play lead with it.
@beetlemaster07 JB is pretty beefy, but I tell you what, I wouldn't be so sure the PG is actually the problem...you say your sound is thin on lead parts, but if it was a pickup issue, you'd have the same problem (or even worse) when playing rhythm parts. Lots of amps out there seem to be sledgehammers in chugga-chugga things, but they get weak and thin on lead parts cause they're lacking MIDS.
Beef up your overall sound by adding mids (lower the gain and boost with an od), should do the trick!
@tomottanta I was have been considering for sometime buying an overdrive and I was leaning toward either a BOSS OD-1 or the Ibanez TS-9 and wanted to get your opinion on these choices. I'm not a death metal type guy but I love Megadeth and Metallica type stuff from the 80's. Right now my amp is a VOX ad-50vt-xl model which is the extra lead and higher gain model, it sounds pretty good for most hard rock applications but does not get even close to heavy metal on any preset. Thanks again.
what kinda specs does yours have? mine has Seymour Duncans at the neck and bridge. I can tell the one at the bridge on yours is, but it doesn't look like the neck pickup is. I have a '59 at the neck and the Pearly Gates Reverse Polarity at the bridge.
@milestide25 They are both duncans, I got JB in bridge position and 59 in the neck position. They didn't come as standard, I put em on. Most of the times 59s don't have SD logo cause they are often the PU replacement of choice of gibson players...and they want to keep the appearences!
@EpiphoneMaster1234 The only colors that you can get now are: Amber, Black Cherry Burst, Crimson Red Transparent and for about 200 bucks more you can get one in spalted.
Ciao! Dunque, la chitarra è koreana ma molto ben fatta...il prezzo divrebbe aggirarsi sui 6-700 euro, ma i dettagli li trovi abbastanza agevolmente in rete.
i have pretty much the same one but mine came with dimarzios and was a straight black, they sound amazing i played lead in my band i posted the recordings on my page if ya wanna listenn
I replaced the fender ones fitted as standard on mine (even if newer models come ou of the box with duncans pearly gates and jazz) with a JB in bridge position and a 59 in neck position.
I think they may be not the hottest-thickest-punchiest, but it's a fantastic combo, very versatile indeed.
Mmmm...maybe the sound that comes to the listener can be perceived as similar, but under the player's fingers is a completely different story: uncomparable necks, very different pickups.
wide range of genres, kudos to you! I've been looking at this guitar for some time now, but have never gotten the opportunity to actually hold and play one despite frequent haunting. Can you point me toward something similar, in terms of neck feel/playability? also, are the necks comparable to an average tele's thickness?
Well, it's pretty flat, but not in a "ibanez way"...by the way it allows you to play fast, but the downside is that if you are so used with bluesy baseball bats, that can be a problem in the beginning!
The neck is thin and comfortable, especially if your hands aren't huge (mine are, but it was easy to get used to it as well).
Just test it and see what it's like, cause feeling is a very personal matter!
Yep, there's a push-pull in the tone pot. The weight is really low (I think it weights more or less as a standard tele)...don't be fooled by the mahogany thing, it's just wood, not metal! Actually is the lightest guitar among the ones I own!
Thanks mate! I've been playing for 15 years now, but I'm sure I was a far better player five or six years ago...at that time I could spend a lot of time on the guitar! The more you practice, the better you play!
well, this one is more versatile, that's for sure...but the root model is a great piece of wood!!! It is more heavy oriented, but I'm sure it's a totally different beast!
Consider this tele as a "all-round" axe, it is tiny, light, comfortable and you can bring a lot of sounds out of it, but it lacks that kind of focus you need if you want something really screamin'.
Anyway the price is also much lighter, so go test both of them and see!
would this be any good for playing some really heavy shit? like modern metal sort of stuff, most extreme being like a lamb of god sort of sound. i really want like a versatile guitar because thats really not all i want to play.
thats what i figured. i havent played one thats why i asked. thanks tho. still looking at fat head telecaster( dont know what its called, i just saw the singer and guitar player from isis had one and its nice)
Back in Black by AC/DC. Didn't u really know that? I'm really sorry for the guy who answered first...I removed the comment without knowing I was going to! Anyway, he said "Back in Black. Seriously?" and I just wanted to reply "Amen"!!!
I think now they come with seymour duncans as standard (but there should be a pearly gates in bridge position), whereas I changed the original fender pups with a jb and a 59.
omg sweet colour on the custom tele, ive got the same but in black cherry burst, check it out. i wanted one in your colour but could only find cherry or a yellow colour, whered you get it?
Well, the sustain is pretty good...the way it's built speaks for itself. Of course you cannot claim it has a les paul kinda sustain, that would be impossible for such a light axe...as well, in can't sound like a tele with the coils splitted. Anyway it is definitely a great guitar, versatile, excellent value for money, I must say it's a great example of how "USA, Japan or Korea" printed on the headstock tells nothing about an instrument most of the times!
These are probably the most un-Fender Fenders you can buy. Mahogany body w/maple top, set neck, rosewood fretboard, humbuckers, Gibson scale, it specs out more like a Les Paul than a Telecaster.
Looks like a great guitar, I played it at the local music store, but that was a telly with the spalted top, I think it's also a realy great guitar to play fast with.. In my opinion guitars like Ibanez dont feel nice, I'm a real fender fan and I love this feeling.
Mine was originally equipped with two fender humbuckers, but I immediately replaced them with a jb in bridge position and a 59 in neck position.
The new version is called "special edition FMT H-H" and comes with a 59 and a pearly gates, but I still prefer the jb for the bridge position. I think the trans black colour is no longer available, unluckily!
Actually I have no idea...maybe the spalted top is more expensive than the flamed one...who knows? I really don't like that spalted top, but it's a matter of taste...by the way the guitar is exactly the same!
okay it is the same? okay good, then I will buy the brown one I think,.. I was just wondering abou that spalted maple, if it had maybe better pickups or something, but thats fine, now I know :D thanks alot dude :) btw awesome playing this video :)

hey man great job but how did you get tht body styles ive only seen 4 differnt body types but not tht one and what kind of amp do you play on?
muzicman1233 2 years ago
I was playing through a very cheap Roland Microcube in classic gain mode (some kind of 800 simulation, not much gain but somehow realistic...).
Regarding the other question, I'm not sure I got what you ment...
tomottanta 2 years ago
the finish i got black cherry burst but ive never seen your finish
