The piece seems to be in G minor, but the key signature is shown as D minor. Is this a historical thing?

@CronosPrime1 It's just a transposition--nothing to do with performance practice.

@sophelet I"m talking only about the score. The key signature reads F major, or D minor. However, the piece in every way behaves like a G minor piece.

@CronosPrime1 Yes it's historical. Early key signature (pre-Classical era) notation of G minor / B-flat major uses only 1 flat. I hope that helps.

My professor, at college, told us that without Schutz, J S Bach didn`t have existed. Schutz was essential to J S Bach.

So was buxtehude. check out dietrich buxtehude's toccata. Bach's toccata in Dm has an uncanny resemblance!

Don´t forget that Bach walked around 400 km from Arnstadt (near Eisenach) to Lübeck, just to meet Buxtehude and witness the "Nachtmusik" from Buxtehude... he stayed for several months and was greatly influenced by the north-german organ meister..

Do you know, I don't know why I said 'soprano' when I actually own the tenor transposition myself (you can find it on choral wiki)! But the little eight is difficult to see, especially as the screen is a bit fuzzy.

@zhaobudao As a matter of fact, it was too low :-) notice is G 8 clef. It is meant to be sung by a tenor, so he transposed it up. I am guessing.

Scholl as it seems, has recorded this in E "minor" with A=415Hz.
