The fact of the matter is that (note: im a swede) sweden did support the nazis during world war 2 why because half of our population preferred them to our ancient enemy russia of whom we still had a bone to pick with.
The germans feared the viking, and now they try to compare themself to uss ? we are nothing like them. Today we are a peaceful people in nordic countrys and germans start wars and lose all the time pfft!
@PureVikingPower vikings are germanic the germans as u called them were merely romanized westernized scandinavians(with some cceltic mixture as modernday germany and austria were where celtic culture and langauge first came from. ) they them selves were migrants from Jutland and demark
@PureVikingPower Germany is peaceful today as well and a very good country. As far as Germany losing they conquered Norway and Denmark, both viking countries and Finland, another viking country was occupied, I see you are from Sweden though, Sweden in world war 2 was of no importance and did not want to anger Germany even going so far as to let them freely use their railways. Get educated.
@madax132 Peaceful my ass im still waiting for the 3rd world war.. Yeah the lose wars and yeah finland and denmark we had germany russia poland finland norway and meny other countrys and finland isen´t considerd a viking country lower sweden and norway, denmark iceland and so on.. Beacuse sweden is a peaceful country now we so yeah we did let you pass throw here, but some sweds did fight the germans succsesfully in norway i think your the one that needs education.
@PureVikingPower Who's we? I'm not german this is just common knowledge. You're claiming that apparently germany is weak when in world war two you either helped them in the case of your country or were conquered by them. I have no bias and in fact the nazis were evil pieces of shit but facts are facts. I'm guessing you try to be over zealously proud in your heritage because you have few personal accomplishments. A few swedes fighting doesn't change the fact that Sweden
@PureVikingPower submitted to and helped Germany. Also if you're waiting for world war 3 it certainly isn't going to be against Germany, they are a peaceful and progressive country.
The info presented here is just wrong & oversimplified. Rome didn't invade germania; Rome infiltrated it by allying with some tribes and destroying others. Romans slowly moved in, built cities & roads, and the tribal peoples slowly began adopting the roman culture. Then Varus came along & began treating the germans like crap so they revolted. He sucked as a military commander so the legions were slaughtered; if Caesar had been in command, Germania would've been another Gaul. Read Cassius Dio
Actually, though it IS very oversimplified, you are also wrong. Roman infrastructure was City State that grew to empire and when they beat an enemy they took over the infrastructure, the cities. In Germania, no infrastructure and no cities. Hence Rome could not take over and Tiberivs was right to call of the campaign by Germanicvs to avenge Varus and put the Germans to heel after years of futile campaigning. Tacitus says it; there was nothing to take over and the people would NEVER relent.
@PatrickEngSU The legions were slaughtered due to not being able to form rank and having to fight more or less man to man. Germany was responsible for many of Romes greatest defeats and likely would not have been conquered to due the thick forests and much better at using their land to their advantage not to mention they were pretty damn well equipped for the time compared to many other non romans.
Heavy cav specialists??? Where do you get your information?? The germans did not fight from horseback. Anyone who has read Caesar's commentaries knows this!! Caesar gives an excellent description of celtic and germanic culture and how they fought. Read it, Germans didn't fight on horseback. I think the heavy cav idea comes from how europeans would prefer to fight over 1000 years in the future
@PatrickEngSU later on in the late roman empire there is a increase in the use of cavalry as well as the use of the spangle helm both Iranic steppe influenced (ie sarmation & alans)
All these exaggerations... Never before, brutal, the most, ... the World have ever seen, wildest, scariest, the most feared, deep forest, the xxxxxest imaginable, greatest... This video would be better without the commentator.
"Don't do anything until you see the whites of the barbarians' eyes!" Yeah, that probably wouldn't be the smartest thing to tell your soldiers if you wanted to win.
@Spartiatai300 Mate, you have to interpret better what you read... I said "germans werent actually known for javelin cavalry" i didnt say they didn't use it... They were heavy cavalry specialists and they don't even mention it here... gothic Cavalry for example they don't even mention it... and they were of the strongests heavy cavalry in the Europe at the time...
@PompeusMagnus Sign. There's a difference between Germans and Germanic peoples. Germanic cavalrymen were referred throughout Rome for their superior horsemanship.
@PompeusMagnus I think the reason they didn't talk about heavy cavalry is because they were describing the germanic tribes of an earlier period, around the 1st century BCE/ACE and from the northen areas that made up Germania. Not every Germanic tribe were horsemen, Anglo-saxon come to the forefront, espically in the north were it's more forested not allowing one to take advantage of the horse. The Goths came more from the east were the lands were beeter suited for Cavalry
The supposed massacre never happened, there is no 9th legion and never was.
The rest of the Rome/Germanic story is basically true but this often cited
battle/ambush never happened.
globalvelveta 2 weeks ago
@globalvelveta There was a 9th legion, the IX Hispana. But it "disappeared" in Briton, not in Germania.

Oversimplified? Yes. Wrong? No. The information about tactics and weapons is accurate, as is the information about the battles.

@PatrickEngSU Caesar faced an undisciplined, un unified enemy with no strategy. Arminius and Caesar were both great commanders.
