I think the real UJ was very hurt because of all that had happend to her yet she was very strong because she was dealing with her situation with grace and no anger. I think Aish failed to understand this which is not her fault. I mean JP Dutta also failed to understand the character of UJ. Also Vaibhavi did a horrible job. She made UJ a dance movie by focussing on these mechanical moves done by Aish. I think Aish is technically a awesome dancer, but she really lacks in expressions.

I know this is supposed to be a sad, tragic movie, so the ending would bring that about, but the ending makes no sense to me. How he (Abhi) takes the word of the decoit (Sunil) over Umrao (Aish), assuming the worst and not even allowing her to explain, nor to trust her ruins it for me. I wish it had an alternate ending, where he (Abhi) finds out the truth, and reunites with her.

I don't think that Ash acts as sincerely as possible. There's supposed to be much resignation in the acting of this song, but I don't see that in Ash's rendition of the song... she looks awkward trying to display the full depth of the emotion behind the song. Her dancing, however, is done well.

i think the one who should been offer this role is madhuri but think ashwarya did good job in telling the story with the dance and with her emotion that is express in her eyes. Priyanka Chopra just wouldnot have done right because she is not the classical dancer type and you not able to feel or see her emotion. she is good actress yes but for this try of movie. ashwarya, madhuri, kajol and rani the greast actress who can express their emotion and how the truly feel in their eyes.

Apparently Priyanka Chopra was initally chosen to play the role of Umrao. I am glad that she was replaced with Aishwarya Rai because seeing Priyanka as the classical beauty would've been truly odd. Ash looks ravishing in every sequence of this film and her dancing is profound. Her performance was, for once, well packaged. However, this film flopped, which is a shame because I really enjoyed watching Aishwarya as Umrao Jaan.
