  • i just realized. ARE THOSE RR TRENT 1000 FOR THE 787???

  • Wait It A Volkwagon Boeing 747-200 Testbed!

  • Wasn't it the plane for the JamesBond movie? I think CasinoRoyal ?

  • @FlightProduction No This Is The Rolls Royce Boeing 747-200 Testbed Maybe!

  • Well, To answer everone's Questions! I know for a fact that a 747 of any series is over 160,000 Lbs. I also know that a gentleman of another country pulled one by himself. I work everyday Towing and performing Heavy Maintenance on 747s and all other boeing a/c. It takes little to no power to move a 747. I use a small inline 6 Desiel with no more than 200 Ft Lbs of torque and not more than 100 HP. Now, the real feat would be STOPPING a 747. downhill... YAY, Problem Solved... Stop Commenting,

  • has a fair bit of pull in it indeed

  • What kind of 747 is that?

Granted it's a genuine 747, but with twin engined instead of a lanky four set.

  • It's a modified 747 that was used in Casino Royale, those engines don't actually work, they're just used for effect :)

  • It's a fully functioning plane, a one off of a 747. just wish i knew what model.

  • 747-200. look at the top bubble

  • I didn't see that. Thanks :D

  • thats they plane on top ger lol

  • ... srry but, this do not show horse power, i mean, a man moved a jumbo. lol

  • i dont think world's strongest would be able move a 200 tonne object

  • i saw it

  • Where give a link plz?

  • G-BDXJ first flew on the 26 March 1980. It last flew on 25 May 2005 Dunsfold Aerodrome . The aircraft was bought by Aces High Limited, a company specialising in supplying aircraft for film work.

It was modified to be used as a prop in the Bond movie Casino Royale, where it appears as the "Skyfleet S570" a fictional prototype airplane. Among the modifications were the fitting of twin mock-up "B-52" style engines on the inner engine pylons, with the outer ones holding mock-up fuel tanks.

  • no way...

  • What type of jumbo jet was that with two engines podded together?

  • it was a special version of a 747

  • yeah i have researched it, it was used as prop shot in miami on 007 casino royale.

  • Top Gear > Fifth Gear

    Land Rover > Volkswagen

  • Hummer 1 > Land Rover > VW

  • straight>gay>transsexual

  • wtf does that have to do with it...?

  • absolutely nothing i am just bored and i was hoping somebody would find himself terribly insulted and start swearing so i could laugh

    You don't do that ?

  • no... 0.o

  • i do haha

  • pretty car but no big deal... I have a probe and No it couldnt do that. however your everyday man can push a train on a flat surface... thats key here flat surface slow and steady

  • BIG DEAL. Don't they tow planes around the airport all the time with those little trucks. I wouldn't buy one of them either. What a stupid stunt. So the Toureg is more tractor than passenger car.

The VW Toureg is just a poor man's Porsche Cayenne.

  • BULLLLLLLLLL SHIT

  • In fact the fifth Gear video is there on the right in the related videos section.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • They may have redone it for the advert or filmed the advert at the same time as filming the fifth gear episode but it was definitely on the show because I watched it when it was first shown on channel 5.

  • This was taken from the show called fifth gear (poor mans top gear). The plane was a passenger jet. it still has the seats inside but will be a lot lighter because the engines are fake, the plane was used as a prop in casino royale and altered to look hi tec. Its the same one that Jeremy clarkson pulls with a tractor in a top gear episode. The 4x4 also has a ton of weights in the back to give it traction.

  • it was an ad for VW. or it was from the show to the vw ad

  • there are people who can tow a 747.

  • ok this plane has fules pods engine clusters it has winglets and it has those squigly things at the end of the engines like the 787

first off this is a 747 clasic and those dont have winglets this is soo fake

  • Those "squigly things" are the vanes of a hush kit. I think it is a real '47, but probably privately owned or chartered, and I'll bet it's a freighter, with all the heavy passenger stuff removed.

  • yes but

they engines are all clusteed up and all that

and you can tell this is a 747 classic which means it should have no winglets

    but it does

    andddd it has fuel pods

not to mention it has plactic landing gear

  • I think it's the test rig that Boeing used to try out the different engine configuration. The engines were placed side by side. Definetly not a common '47.

  • but that thing couldn't even land because those landing gear are made out of plastic

and to test different engine configurations

woulddnt they have used a regular 747 body and wings with the different engines congifurations would they not

  • ok this is a 747 classic and those jet engines have those squigliy lines on them like the 787s do u see

    i dont get that

and the plane cant be towed by that VW

not even a ford F-450 could do that

  • first thing.... normally new jets have a system ( no lying, i have test it in flight simulator) that makes them desire at how much speed do they want the airplane to taxi... for example they put the jumbo to go at 15 km/h and the care also goes at 15 km/h.... =P

  • its bull

  • need sound, cause I think the jet was on, and acutally pushing the SUV lol

  • This 747 is on the Dunsfold circuit used by the Top Gear. But how could a car tow a jumbojet?! I mean, does it even have enough torque to tow this.

  • this is a ford commercial! ew yuck

  • my chevy could do it faster lol

  • its bullshit

  • thats a weird 747 it has 4 engins clustered togeather in steed of spaced out

  • I believe it was the 747 used in a film (casino royal) which was borrowed by VW. the cluster engines are models... and there are "fuel pods" on the outer engine fix points

  • ^^ yea thats what i think too! so it is bullshit!

  • no your a little off fully loaded 747s weigh in around 3/4 of a million pounds, i specifically remember twa flight 800 crash and thats what they said it weighed.

  • The 747 looks different from normal, i never seen before engines hung coupled together under the wing.

  • Probably because it is'nt a 747!

  • wasny this on TOP GEAR ?

strange it is the same airfeild they use

  • until we create the better one,it's the best one...VW!

  • Notice no sound its faked.

  • No its real, it's from the bbc show top gear, its the v-10diesel

  • what types of engines were they they looked strange

    Capt. Bosson

  • Car is modified, doesnt have the original gearbox.

And theres a big difference between what cars can pull physically and legally, hence why the toureg is rated for a 3500kg pull. It wouldnt be very safe pulling this down the M25 now, would it.

  • safe no, but awsome yes.

  • Damn strait. An I suppose the traffic on the M25 is no quicker than the toureg pulling the jumbo..

  • If you look up David Huxley in the guiness book of records. You would see that in October 1997 in sydney austrailia he pulled a 747-400 91m in just under 1 and a half minutes.

  • and without soun...

    the plane could be "on"

  • if the plane was on, the people filming behind would be blown halfway across the runway!!

  • its still not a real 747

  • yes its is, the aircraft is a test rig for new engines, and thats why it looks to have a double engine pod as it was used in Casino Royal.

  • it isn't a test rig

if it were a test rig it would be used on a real 747 like rrs

  • what are you on about...

its a boeing 747-200 (as the top deck is short)

Its kept at the top gear race track which incendently is an airfield.

Its airworthy, and its been altered for testing new concepts, because how many 747's are lying around to be modified??

Rolls Royce use it, The makers of James Bond used it in casino royal as that is the config shown in the movie above, with double engine, and fuel pods.

Also, i dont see winglets on it? and old 747's can have them put on.

  • pssht yea right

they wouldn't put that crap on a 747-200 they would test it on a real 747-400 ive seen the vids when RR tests the trent1000 they put it on a 744

  • a man can pull a jumbo

  • Indeed he could, however a clever man, should he wish to pull a jumbo, would do it from the comfort of a Touareg. Makes sense really....

  • The tugs that tow planes ( at least the older ones) have about 40 horsepower and 180 ft/lbs of torque. They are geared low. Runways are level. Any 4000 pound or more 4 wheel drive with low range could do the job. A shop I used to work for had a retired plane tug to push around dead cars. It was fine for that.

  • the tugs at most airports have a total of about 100 hp, but over 1000 foot-pounds of torque. all you really need to tow a jet is a really, REALLY low gear. it's like a wumbo towing package!

  • yea really

see they make regular cars so they cand get up to speed not to tow something really heavy really slow

  • i do this @ home every day

  • If you go to any major airport, you'll see planes being towed by vehicles all the time. These do not have over 1000hp, but of course a huge momentum. This experiment was done using an automatic, as a regular clutch gear-box would have burned out before it even moved. Plus 4,3 tonnes of ballast was loaded into the Touareg to prevent its wheels from spinning. Still... I'll bet the warranty is void if you attempt this at home!

  • Its the plane from Casino Royale

  • This is not a 747. Look at the engines, the are not mounted on pairs like that on any 747 model I know off. What is this? My guess is, a lightweight prop for some movie.

  • For the New 007 movie, it used to be a 747 though.

  • apparently it is a 747-200

  • it was an old 747-200, used by air atlanta, but it was taken out of service and left at duxford areodrome, were the makers of the new bond film removed the old engines and replaced them with dummy engines. but it is a real 747.

  • Stupid viral marketing!

  • if it is, its clever cause its being commented on!

  • They should use these at airports to get the planes in line before take-off to save fuel. There's always such a massive line at the runway it would save loads of CO2.

  • Except for it went at a basic max speed of 5mph. And this probably cost a lot more, wasted a lot more fuel. That would be the most inefficient move. Most of those vehicles are powered by propane, and there's no propane shortage that I know of.

  • interesting

  • top car!

  • thats amazing - this beast is pulling about 350 tonnes - V-dubs rule!!

  • you sure thats about 730,000lbs!!

  • I think... but you may be right... that 747 weighed in at 150 tons, but the Touareg was capable of pulling 200 tons. The reason why they did not pull a 747 that weighed in at 200 tons is because there was not one available, the one in the video is often used as a movie prop... so it is available a lot. I may be wrong... read it somewhere; forgot where though.

  • the touareg did pull a 747 in gernay that weighed in at 190 tonnes but when they did this in the uk one was not available so this plane that is used for film shoots was used instead

  • If you knew just a little bit of what are you talking about, you´d realize it´s one of the most stupid things i´ve ever heard. Come on, a really really good car can pull arround 15 tons (if it´s a great great car with an special gear box). This just can´t be true, if the gear box is the one of a normal car, the motor should have 1000hp

  • um, try nearly 180 tons

  • yeah, i read on the vw site that the plane was 150 tonnes...!
