The Maori History is far from the Native American History, you might wanna play British Imperial some where else. Everyone who really knows the history,. knows it gets pretty ebarrasin for the British Loyals. anyway...Great demo..but...ya guys showed too much lol
Te kuare o etahi kiritea I runga I Te YouTube ,Mau rakau takes skill ,though many do not give it the respect in deserves ,it is more then just simply swinging a big stick ,it takes years of study and discipline to effectively use the taiaha in combat ,I know i have been a practitioner of mau rakau for about 4 years now
In the days of Pakeha Colonization, Captain Cook brought forth a challenge to a Maori Tribe. How would you Maarii like to challenge the best master swordsman from the motherland in a duel. We Accept. So they gathered and the swordsman said ''Who Dares?'' A voice said ''Ma Ariki a korua hoari tama e whakatara'' the warriors stepped aside, and the old chief approached. sword and Taiaha were drawn and the moment the swordsman moved BOOM, his head, was swiftley sliced off!!!! ...story from my Koro
@Tekaani1 In Omaramutu marae today, their is an old Taiaha, that won a duel againt one English officer at the age of 25 losing the duel to a 50 yr old man holding a stick in a grass dress ,Is what they said (Taiahaha!).
Hours later the English officer was still getting over the crack he recevied from the old maori man
now thats how you represent our maori warriors with a display of skill, speed and a natural instinct of mental and physical warfare, be it at home here or overseas. kia kaha nga tamatoa o ngaati tuumatauenga, ka mau te wehi.
The Maori people believed that combat was sacred to their ancestors and they fought to acquire mana spiritual power and prestige. Cannibalism was fueled by the desire to gain the mana of a foe defeated in battle. Unlike most native cultures, the Maori were never conquered.
@spacestick1 Actually the Native Americans were conquered. Slavery to Europeans and Arabs was a big thing and the Colonials taking their land by force.
@spacestick1 lmfao but they weren't. They all signed the peace treaty and became citizens with the British. The Native Americans lost all of their land, were enslaved and only a few made a peace treaty with the British and Colonials. Hell, most American tribes were wiped out into extinction.
Maori are natural soldiers. From what I understand, they are a key asset to the NZ army and the NZSAS. Next to the tipstaff I'd rate the taiaha as the most lethal wooden hand to hand weapon ever invented. They only problem Maori have is surviving in a money grubbing civilization dominated by ignorant redneck lardasses like johnhar271.

well boo fucking hoo...real warrior races learning to make advanced weapons instead of talking about the past......go figure. you really want to brag about a stone weapon or a wood one, what a dumb ass
my ancesters (vikings) learned to make steel that doesnt rust and made swords from it and fucked up all of europe...yours were still in the stone age not 100 years ago. be real
Too bad the decendants of your ancestors also fucked up the world with their 'advanced' ideas like industrial pollution, consumerism, the stock market, the worship of greed as a religon ( capitalism for you dummies) , firearms, mines, bombs, chemical and biological weapons, atomic weapons, nuclear weapons, the Nazi's and that psychopathic form of selfishness you sicko's call 'individualism'.
@johnhar271 I'll teach you somthing bro have you ever been to Kilmuir on the island of Skye in Scotland, was the place of the vikings last stand. Ever heard the term going Berserk? Comes from the hallucinogenic barserk mushroom the vikings took before battle make them uncontrollable while sometimes charging into battle naked...hence the saying "going berserk". Your ancestry my friend were a bunch of crack heads...mean while the maori traditions live on, and the taiaha never forgotten
Ngati tumatauenga K2's you's rock!! Dont see this sort of stuff very often because it is tapu. Held with a lot of respect. Enjoyed this display and hope it has continued...
This process in learning is very sacred and painful mate. Trust me. It will break all your mental physical and spiritual barriers. If you do... Good luck.
I heard about taiaha few years ago, but except some documentary movie and short presentation in 'Once Were Warriors' i could find only material to read.. Now i can see it in action and- whoa, this taiaha is powerful! Thanks a lot for sharing this vid with us, robzwol! Respect for Maori warriors!
Awesome, been looking ages for something like this. To see the weapon in action and the speed it is used at. It lives up to its reputation. Thanks for the vid.

Are you sure you aren't talking about raping him? You know, like you do with other boys.
Conquered savages? Nope, actually very civilized people even more tribals.
Think, 2000 people in 1 village, all working together to make life easier.
Not like what the Vikings did who just killed each other and didnt really care how many of their own was wiped out.
All the british were Savage Cannibals who threw heads at their enemies.
And more worse things. Sorry dude.

The weapons Vikings used did rust. Vikings were also on averaged height at 5'3-5'6.
They were brutish, no real leadership, they dominated other Barbaric communities, but failed to fight the Romans.
Maori traveled the world for years before settling down, so yes, they would've been stoneage as soon as they settled.
Its recorded that Maori compared to other indigenous peoples and Tribal communities were far more advanced.
The materials they had were stoneage, but how they used them were advanced

yawn......me stone age warrior.....me fight with stick...can anyone guess why all the pacific islands are conquered people by industrialized nations
johnhar271 2 years ago
Actually, it took several years and 300+defeats compared to nearly 400 battles with Maori for 80 years just for both sides to make a peace treaty.
Europeans and American soldiers couldn't defeat the Maori because they were better fighters and gunmen.
You try to shoot with a musket down a cliff through tree's on a 40 degree angle hitting the heart.
Thats difficult even with a scope.
Yawn, me uncivilized Viking midget who has been wiped out. Oh my bad.
