Due to negative depictions of young black males on TV, in movies, and the news, a lot of people do not see "this" on a daily basis or see "this" as normal behavior. Good discussion but I think the point that's missing is that because being gay is less acceptable in the black community than some others, there are more men on the DL. Therefore, the women don't know who is straight and who is bi or gay. So, if it is better for men to be honest about their sexual orientation - their sexual orientation needs to be accepted by the community.

Agreed, I have been volunteering with Black youth for at least 10 years and it's not getting better. Their idols are not in the home like it should be --- IT'S in the STREETS, television, music and clubs. These are the last places youth should be looking for guidance but they do and as long as folks (MEN AND WOMEN) do not step up and set the example this will continue, period. I love this. Intelligent, seemingly educated, nice looking black men discussing a serious issue while making vaild points and not calling each other "nigga". I wish that young black men could see this more. @AveolarD I'm from America. And I'm so glad that this type of dialogue is normal where you're from. Due to negative depictions of young black males on TV, in movies, and the news, a lot of people do not see "this" on a daily basis or see "this" as normal behavior. A lot of young African-Americans live in impoverished neighborhoods and what they see as a representation of black men is saggy pants and the inability to reason and converse intelligently. ALL OF THIS INFO IS JUST MY OPINION.

Good discussion but I think the point that's missing is that because being gay is less acceptable in the black community than some others, there are more men on the DL. Therefore, the women don't know who is straight and who is bi or gay. So, if it is better for men to be honest about their sexual orientation - their sexual orientation needs to be accepted by the community.
