  • Nigel John Taylor= the man who inspired me to learn how to play bass guitar (even though I will need to start all over again because I haven't plaied for ages...)

  • what Duran Duran knew many years ago, CERN has only now disovered :))

  • oh mg god... takes me back , love it

  • Great post, thanks bsidebaby! Everything I find says this was a b-side of GOF, but I distinctly remember listening to it in my car while cruising around back in the mid-80's. Pretty sure I didn't have the means to record from LP to cassette back then??

  • @66vette509 Here in San Diego 91X use to play whatever we requested, they played B-sides all the time :) Maybe wherever you grew up, had the same type of radio play?!

  • This is too great of a song to not be mainstream!!! Why, oh why was it only a B-side!? Simply outrageous!!!

Duran Duran is utterly amazing in my opinion :D Keep making great music and I can't wait to see you in concert soon!!!!!

  • ..White lights shinin' bright..you're all alone.......

  • Rhodes was talented in creativity! Maybe not in technicalities, but that's what a lot of musicians these days don't get. Creativity can outweigh all the technical crap in many ways. The same thing that made Pink Floyd HUGE!

  • @birddogbull agree

  • I love the synths on this one!!! I would die for a multitrack :)

  • something in the sound remember me "the masters". Called Ultravox.

  • wow .. you can hear the crackle ... LOVE vinyl.

  • @robert0414 nothing better and some stuff is being realeasd as so put yhe needle down puff off the dust and just dance

  • i love how you can hear the record thing at the begining. just bought the vinyl for the single 'girls on film' and this song was also on it. i fell in love

  • First heard this song live July 1981 Manchester Apollo.

  • @the0fart0machine me it was '82,Hammersmith Odeon. Superb live.

  • wow hadn't heard this for a long time...

  • nice

  • A hidden gem

  • depeche and duran= 80s pimps. end of story.

  • WHy did this not become one of their singles, it was awesome!

  • For some reason this reminds me of "The Fear" by Lily Allen. I seem to be the only one that can hear it according to my friends though.

  • @bangzoom26 Just checked out the Lily Allen video and you're right the melody is very similar to Faster Than Light.

  • @bangzoom26 Wow, you're right! Had never noticed that before. This song is so much better though :-)

  • muito boa essa musica do duran duran,eu to em casa tomando cerveja e fumando cigarro bem louco.

  • This song is so good like a nice bottle of wine.

I like DURAN DURAN and i like a nice bottle of wine.

  • If John Taylor were ugly, he'd get the respect he deserves as a bass player..

  • @bockybalboa hahahaha!

  • @bockybalboa Well, Geddy Lee ain't exactly a model and he doesn't get any respect either. lol

  • @nljuggalo John Taylor and Geddy Lee are the reason I love synthesizers and bass guitar. Both bands in the late 70s and early 80s had some of the best analog synth arrangements ever, imho.

All of DDuran are top notch musicians, and always have been. Their success overshadowed their great talent at writing well crafted pop songs.

  • @RallyCat909 Indeed.

  • @RallyCat909 Nick Rhodes a top notch musician? You're obviously not a musician yourself!

  • @MisAnnThorpe

Right. If you dont like the guy, why are you posting in threads like this? A day of trolling perhaps?

  • @RallyCat909 I've nothing particularly against Nick Rhodes but when fans come out with patently ludicrous comments lacking any objectivity, I do feel disposed towards pointing it out. No doubt you consider Simon Le Bon a supremely talented vocalist and lyricist as well!

  • @MisAnnThorpe To tell you the truth sometimes I´ve thought Duran Duran would sound better if all the songs were instrumentals, not that I don´t like Simon Le Bon´s singing, which is flawless. When I listen to Duran Duran I pay more attention to the bass and synth sounds rather than the voice

  • I have a very rare -and short- live recording version of this on a cassette tape (taken from a VHS tape). It's nice to hear the real original version, ...plus I can tell what Simon is saying!!!! hahahah

  • this is so good and watching the record going round, takes me back to the 80s.

  • This track is absurd, the bass is absurd the vocals and guitar are absurd synth...

  • @HanzSygnal that's maybe why it's a B-side....

  • @HanzSygnal well you know what they say about opinions. I personally DIG THE HELL OUT OF IT!!! woo woo...

  • @HanzSygnal what is your definition of absurd Mr. Conviction??

  • Always loved this and other great DD b-sides like "late bar" and "secret oktober". Would have fit perfectly onto the first album and was probably better then some that made it.

  • ahhhh, the poor souls, at the time, they thought this would be their number one (or #2) hit....and of course it shoulda been!.......love it; thanks for the post.

  • With a song so righteously hot, how could there only be just over 16,000 views?! People (especially those who call themselves fans of Duran Duran) need to get with it and educate themselves with their earliest cuts.

  • went to see them in 83 in aberdeen scotland & was in the mad crowd at the front ,shouting my head off for them to do this song ,of course it was'nt part of the set list on the rio tour ,shame one of their all time greatest ,thanks for putting this up.

  • Great stuff! I loved this song at the time and still do, its actually one of my favourite Duran Duran songs, a shame it isn't more well known.

  • Thank you to EhrIsHuman. I know I will be looking for it as soon as it drops. I can hardly wait!!

  • OMG, got this on vinyl too, that crackling sound brings back many memories, and the tune - what can I say! Khanada, faster than light - antyhing from the japanese import ep I have - so reminiscent. must try you tube for more of my other classsics - chauffeur acoustic in 81/82

  • duran duran did some of their best work as B sides and mega mixes!!! shame because i would loves these on CD!

  • They are on cd....I have them. this and late bar are on the 7 disc box set....

  • i have this as a b-side on vinyl. can anyone PLEASE hook me up with an MP3 of this if they have it? i will be soooo appreciative!

  • Hey, I never heard this one before. I likes, I likes. I love finding things like this I didn't know about. Thanks for posting. Thats two new songs I like now thanks to you.

  • They need to release a new version of their first LP and include this and "Late Bar". That would be the ultimate. I just wish I knew where I could find these two singles. Then my collection would be complete.

  • Your wish will be granted next March, 2010 when the deluxe edition CD of their debut album will be released (also on vinyl.) There is also a current CD singles box set which contains the b-sides.

  • long long life DURANDURAN , 1ST IN THE 80'

  • 80'stimeagain...im 38 also, totally know where you coming from....pure nostalgia!

  • Not heard this this song in years.

B-side of something i think, fukin ace...: )

  • LOVE THIS SONG!

  • very cool idea! you rock man!

  • never heard this before,i was into duran from, is there something i should know,i was about 13 or 14,im 40 now, really good song, thanx

  • 2:39 to 3:22 i always liked. :)

  • I don't know. I haven't head this song in awhile, and what is spooky is that i rememeber every note and sound in this song. I am 38, and in a second i'm transported to when i was a kid.

  • I always liked this song, and i don't know why exactly. But, it's like uplifting or something. Yes, i have this on vinyl too. I think it's under my bed somewhere. Lol. :)

  • Wish Duran's would come to Finland :)

  • Seeing these guys soon this summer, I can't wait!! :)

  • This song is so catchy.

  • @yoit and scratchy :)

  • the bass is down to the producer who says what goes in the mix.they got it wrong on astronaut but got it right on red carpet massacre

  • song kicks bum after all the years!!

  • Hey, the album actually says Duran Duran! I thought it was just stock footage!

  • Good this brings back memories, always played it on the jukebox , well done for sticking it on :-)

  • The bass on their earlier stuff is so awesome!

  • another great song from duran duran :)

  • Thanks for this ...i love it =)

  • im still a fan of duran duran since early 1980's...

  • i like this song...im still duran duran....

  • John Taylor= greatest bass player ever!

  • Absolutely.

  • John Taylor tearing that bass line up!

  • Before the teenyboppers. What a great band with amazing musicians that just don't get the credit they deserve. Cutting-edge over anything at the time when this come across the Atlantic to the US in 1981.

  • Great album. The song on first album are wonderful, others yet! I said DD recording no issued materiale on first album. Look up in wikipedia. Best Regards. Gino

  • DD no incluye en sus últimos conciertos ninguna de sus mejores joyas como esta canción, o Late bar, o To the shore. Siento nostalgia por esta época de los DD.

  • SWEEEEEEET! I love this song too! It's quite catchy and I find myself singing along to it even now 15 or 20 years later:)

    Cheers mate!

    thank you for posting this

  • What a GREAT bass line. Duran Duran deserve more credit for amazing songs like this. I love the start bit and when Simon goes, "Ohhh.. ohhh." My mates aren't DD fans, but I've had random people coming up to me and telling me that they like the sound of this song.

  • Just discovered this one. Absolutly amazing as usual. That synth line is incredible.

  • Awesome song. Taylor shreds on the bass, Simon sings great, its all great!

  • ughhhh this song isn't on itunes!!! IM SOOO MAD!!

  • I looooooove this song!!

  • Yep. I have this on vinyl too. I haven't listened to it in years. Maybe since the 80s even.

  • I LOVE this b-side. I think it's one of the best. Thanks for posting this up. It's brilliant!

  • THIS SONG ISNT ON ITUNES AND I'M MAD! what album is this from?

  • This is the b-side of Girls on film. Not on any album except b-side compilations.

  • that sucks

  • You can find this song on a compilation box named ESSENTIAL WITH ALL SINGLES UNTIL 85 I THINK. WORTH HAVING IF YOU LIKE DURAN DURAN.

VIVA DURAN DURAN, QUE SON COJONUDOS, LO MEJOR.

  • It's called Duran Duran The Singles '81-'85. I believe it's a 13 cd box set and each cd has the single, it's remixes, and the b-side from the vinyl days. It's an amazing box set. I believe there is also a box set for the singles from '86-'95.

  • This are songs B-side "not-commercial" of DD...Simon say in interviews that the first years of band are more "honests" or romantics, really. In special a first album "DD"/81 & "RIO"/82. And very best! Thanks, bsidebaby!

  • the melody is allways present in DD songs....

    It's magic!

I'd love to see Bryan Eno from Queen with Duran Duran or Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits.

I think they are the only guitar players that can substitute our Andy....

  • Queen guitarrist is Bryan May not Bryan Eno he's more like a producer

  • I don't think I'll ever get tired of that juicy thick disco bass and those analog synths. They're just too good.

  • faster than shite another duran great, cb,s white knight loved this

  • John Taylor could shove it in dry. I would take him balls deep. Well, if my wife is ok with that.

  • You totally are the biggest fan....lol

  • You and your wife are really...

    close... I guess...

unles Johny Boy gets in your " way ".

U must be frum far away

  • Why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel?!

  • hahahaha!!!

bigkw your comment is pretty much the best i've seen on youtube

  • Great song. DDs first album (EMI) had a song titled "To the Shore" which was between Planet Earth (short version) and Girls on Film. The U.S. album (Capitol Records) deleted "To the Shore" and used "Planet Earth night version". "To the Shore" is a great song and to the best of my knowledge never released on any B side.

  • 'To The Shore' was the B-side on the U.S. 'Planet Earth' 45.

  • Cool...Thanks for the info.

  • Love this song. Duran Duran are the best.

  • Was always surprised this was a B not an A side.

  • There is an album with all these B sides songs?

  • Are B sides of DD doesn't have an official video or MTV like this one? This is my all time favorite song of DD.

  • that song rocks!
