Nigel John Taylor= the man who inspired me to learn how to play bass guitar (even though I will need to start all over again because I haven't plaied for ages...)
Great post, thanks bsidebaby! Everything I find says this was a b-side of GOF, but I distinctly remember listening to it in my car while cruising around back in the mid-80's. Pretty sure I didn't have the means to record from LP to cassette back then??
@66vette509 Here in San Diego 91X use to play whatever we requested, they played B-sides all the time :) Maybe wherever you grew up, had the same type of radio play?!
Rhodes was talented in creativity! Maybe not in technicalities, but that's what a lot of musicians these days don't get. Creativity can outweigh all the technical crap in many ways. The same thing that made Pink Floyd HUGE!
i love how you can hear the record thing at the begining. just bought the vinyl for the single 'girls on film' and this song was also on it. i fell in love
@nljuggalo John Taylor and Geddy Lee are the reason I love synthesizers and bass guitar. Both bands in the late 70s and early 80s had some of the best analog synth arrangements ever, imho.
All of DDuran are top notch musicians, and always have been. Their success overshadowed their great talent at writing well crafted pop songs.
@RallyCat909 I've nothing particularly against Nick Rhodes but when fans come out with patently ludicrous comments lacking any objectivity, I do feel disposed towards pointing it out. No doubt you consider Simon Le Bon a supremely talented vocalist and lyricist as well!
@MisAnnThorpe To tell you the truth sometimes I´ve thought Duran Duran would sound better if all the songs were instrumentals, not that I don´t like Simon Le Bon´s singing, which is flawless. When I listen to Duran Duran I pay more attention to the bass and synth sounds rather than the voice
I have a very rare -and short- live recording version of this on a cassette tape (taken from a VHS tape). It's nice to hear the real original version, ...plus I can tell what Simon is saying!!!! hahahah
Always loved this and other great DD b-sides like "late bar" and "secret oktober". Would have fit perfectly onto the first album and was probably better then some that made it.
ahhhh, the poor souls, at the time, they thought this would be their number one (or #2) hit....and of course it shoulda been!.......love it; thanks for the post.
With a song so righteously hot, how could there only be just over 16,000 views?! People (especially those who call themselves fans of Duran Duran) need to get with it and educate themselves with their earliest cuts.
went to see them in 83 in aberdeen scotland & was in the mad crowd at the front ,shouting my head off for them to do this song ,of course it was'nt part of the set list on the rio tour ,shame one of their all time greatest ,thanks for putting this up.
OMG, got this on vinyl too, that crackling sound brings back many memories, and the tune - what can I say! Khanada, faster than light - antyhing from the japanese import ep I have - so reminiscent. must try you tube for more of my other classsics - chauffeur acoustic in 81/82
Hey, I never heard this one before. I likes, I likes. I love finding things like this I didn't know about. Thanks for posting. Thats two new songs I like now thanks to you.
Hey, I never heard this one before. I likes, I likes. I love finding things like this I didn't know about. Thanks for posting. Thats two new songs I like now thanks to you.
They need to release a new version of their first LP and include this and "Late Bar". That would be the ultimate. I just wish I knew where I could find these two singles. Then my collection would be complete.
Your wish will be granted next March, 2010 when the deluxe edition CD of their debut album will be released (also on vinyl.) There is also a current CD singles box set which contains the b-sides.
I don't know. I haven't head this song in awhile, and what is spooky is that i rememeber every note and sound in this song. I am 38, and in a second i'm transported to when i was a kid.
I always liked this song, and i don't know why exactly. But, it's like uplifting or something. Yes, i have this on vinyl too. I think it's under my bed somewhere. Lol. :)
Before the teenyboppers. What a great band with amazing musicians that just don't get the credit they deserve. Cutting-edge over anything at the time when this come across the Atlantic to the US in 1981.
Great album. The song on first album are wonderful, others yet! I said DD recording no issued materiale on first album. Look up in wikipedia. Best Regards. Gino
DD no incluye en sus últimos conciertos ninguna de sus mejores joyas como esta canción, o Late bar, o To the shore. Siento nostalgia por esta época de los DD.
What a GREAT bass line. Duran Duran deserve more credit for amazing songs like this. I love the start bit and when Simon goes, "Ohhh.. ohhh." My mates aren't DD fans, but I've had random people coming up to me and telling me that they like the sound of this song.
It's called Duran Duran The Singles '81-'85. I believe it's a 13 cd box set and each cd has the single, it's remixes, and the b-side from the vinyl days. It's an amazing box set. I believe there is also a box set for the singles from '86-'95.
This are songs B-side "not-commercial" of DD...Simon say in interviews that the first years of band are more "honests" or romantics, really. In special a first album "DD"/81 & "RIO"/82. And very best! Thanks, bsidebaby!
