  • It's hard to find a scientist's that actually believes in what he does and has true, honest passion for it.

  • i'm such a huge fan of this guy... i wish i went to UC berkley just to take a class from him... out of any scientist alive today, i think i'd like to meet him more than anybody else

  • @jpagel He got his PhD studying solar atmospheres, then stopped researching at all for a while and felt miserable. Then, he recounts in a book I've read, whilst taking a shower he realised he needed to do something that fascinated him in a child-like way, and the idea of looking for extrasolar planets popped into his head. For years they found no planets. He said " it was an extraordinarily difficult time. I was worried we were wasting valuable telescope time and indeed wasting our whole lives."
