When you say "idol worshiping", do you mean the actual adoration of a physical object as God?

If so, sure, SOME Hindus do that (cleaning them off and what not), but it is extremely hard to say what all hindus are or do and what all hindus are or are not. Essentially, yes Hinduism is philosophy more than it is "religion" in the western sense, in some cases.

Sure, there specific traditions that are held and specific ways of doing things, but it doesn't say anywhere that if you don't do all these things, you're sinning. Hinduism is very fundamental in terms of sins. Good and evil, period. Of course altered by circumstance.

But to say, hindus are "all about worshiping idols" would be erroneous given any knowledge of it and seeing as how it's the oldest living religion in the world....

I don't think we've made this far by promoting the worship of mere idols.

Idols aren't a representation so much as they are symbols. We don't believe God looks like Ganesh..God's formless, but it's what the image of Ganesh symbolizes. Those are the aspects of God by which we worship him. In the case of Ganesh, removal of obstacles, abundance, and happiness.
