  • Beck looks like his guitar was an extra appendage at birth; and Mayer's was surgically attached.

  • most musicians payed there dues for where they are today. Mr mayar did not.I believe your seeing him so offten is because younger people are'nt interested in people older than 25-30 years old. I also see a lot of ego and lack of substance. He should go back to playing to girls who like his pop love songs for 10 years and then we'll see.

  • @roadamerica2011 Didn't pay his dues? He was playing clubs and coffee houses in Atlanta when he was like 19.

  • @roadamerica2011 sorry, but you're an idiot and don't know anything about his history.

  • Vinnies a good drummer but hes no Mitch Mitchel.

  • @sebz661 that might be the dumbest thing i've ever heard

  • listening to these two covering Jimis song and still comming up short makes one realize just how outstanding of a player Hendrix was.......like Jeep, theres only one !

  • Jeff Beck in a recent interview was asked:

Are there any guitarists from this era that you think in a decade will be on a Top 100 Guitarists of All Time list?

Reply: I can’t really say there is. If I pick one out, the others are gonna go, ‘Why didn’t you choose me.’ But John Mayer, he seems to be the one to fly the blues flag; he’s the new Eric Clapton, I would imagine.

  • sound quality is horrible :(

  • WOW! Thanks JBO! I can't deny that the sound could be better but if you hadn't tried to get the video with what you had to work with we would have nothing at all! I'm shocked and impressed with the quality of the video and your cinematic ability.

  • you can fix this sound in just about any program incl. free AUDACITY.

  • Who's the little girl on Bass in the back?

  • @FuzzyMcButterWink Tal Wilkenfeld. She's an amazing bass player, and played with Jeff Beck for awhile. Listen to the live "Cause We Ended As Lovers" with her on bass. She's got serious skills.

  • @FuzzyMcButterWink The great Tal Wilkenfeld.

  • sound quality sucks

  • Mayer is baddass

  • mayer is simply the greatest guitarist in the last 30 years..incredible talent..beck is learning much from him

  • argh i wish so much that the audio was alright! that must have been incredible - mayer and jeff beck covering hendrix?!?

  • Dude Mayer's clunky tone in the verse is shit.

  • Dude Mayer's clunky tone in the verse is shit.

  • It seems Mayer jumped on his stomp box just before they kicked off the tune, like he wanted to dominate Beck with volume. That's a cheap strategy, he should have taken his whipping like a man. What a poser.

  • @edcherrylawn poser??? why dont all you cowards hiding behind your computers come out and John will show you how to play the guitar. you are so jealous because he is the best player right now. and you cant stand that people like Jeff beck, Eric clapton, BB King and Buddy Guy Think he is amazing!!!! and jam with him all the time. if he wasnt amazing then they wouldnt give him there time.

  • @musicdude195 He's a clever guy who can write a great song, he's movie star handsome. He's an incredible mimic but he has nothing original 'yet' to offer as a guitar player. The older guitar players you mention are savvy businessmen. They use Mayer (as Mayer uses them) to gain access to a broader fan base and sell more product.

  • @edcherrylawn Clapton and all of the guys like him not just to sell records, and he does have alot of original guitar playing style go listen to some of his acoustic playing, nobody can play acoustic like john mayer can. and he does do alot of Clapton and SRV licks but he has own style he has created on the electric.

  • @musicdude195 He's a talented singer-songwriter who plays all the tried and trusty blues cliches. The first "lick" he plays is from "Machine Gun." Get the Tom Dowd documentary to hear Clapton describe how he learned about the 'adult" approach to music. If you want artistic integrity listen to Eric Dolphy, Albert Ayler, John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, Charles Mingus.... or not.

  • Great blues players don't come out of Berklee, Mayer included.

  • @Gonzoidz learn your facts kiddo... Mayer dropped out of Berklee, never graduated. Regardless of his own past, the man has soul and is able to express it on a guitar along with the top echelon of mucisians.

  • @luxton

Mayer is a technically proficient but dull hackney eyed player. Just because he fucks movie stars and adorns magazine covers doesn't mean he's anything special.

  • @Gonzoidz you are crazy, he is the best blues guitarist right now. and you are most likely jealous because you cant play for shit, or even get close to his amazing tone.

  • @musicdude195

What tone? lol! He is not a blues guitarist by any stretch, he pays lip service to blues only and puts our MOR coffee table muzak that you lap up. Serves you right!

I am better than this posing fake, one day soon you will see.

  • @Gonzoidz The man was born with the blues !

  • @richiemabie

Who? Mayer was born to write horrid commercial garbage like Your Body is Wonderland.. lol! His blues is as empty as he is.

  • @Gonzoidz

You are completely crazy, John Mayer is THE definitive young blues guitarist of our generation... Buddy Guy doesn't just decide to play with anyone ya know...

  • is that a joke?

  • john mayer acts like he some great guitar player and he is but, he is an asshole especilly in interviews when he says and i quote"i know stevie's (srv) tone better than anyone eles" but nowhere close to being as good as jeff beck thats just stupid

  • @ srv3563 yeah that's a hefty statement. besides, he may need to check out henry garza.

  • You are the Biggest moron on youtube.

  • OMFG, that's the most ridiculous thing i've heared in ages.... even Mayer will admit that Beck is the master!

  • John Mayer sucks

  • If you are a musician, then you know John Mayer can really play guitar. He's always been able to.

He just went the route of singer/songwriter because it's easier to get laid play squishy love songs.

  • You made a small spelling error: it's easier to get "p"aid playing squishy love songs.

  • @muddywood Yeah I completely agree with you. If you see John live (like I did) you really see his blues come out. It's awesome!

  • Why do people continuously bash Mayer!!!!!!! Sorry it just bugs me. A classic player like Jeff Beck wouldnt invite Mayer to play with him unless he was good. People judge Mayer because he plays pop music and that bugs people but the bottom line is, Mayer is an AMAZING player. I saw the trio live and he was flawless. Sure he cant live up to Jimi, no one can. But he is one of the best I have ever heard in terms of Jimi covers. Listen to Bold as Love or Wait Until Tomorrow! Sorry just bugs me.

  • @AlanDavidMusic cause when feeling out a musician you gotta use your instincts and he just doesn't smell right. his music doesn't touch a lot of people"s souls

  • he's amazing he is just such an arrogant asshole

  • @AlanDavidMusic That's pretty much why people don't like him though. He has serious chops, i'm not going to deny that. He's better than me. He just uses them to play really mediocre pop music when he could make more good electric blues. I like alot of his blues stuff, but the pop seems a bit selloutish to me.

No, I didn't come here to bash Mayer, I don't care that much. I wanted to see Jeff Beck.

  • @rocknrollguru23 ive always wondered why people say his pop stuff is selloutish just coz the guy wants to make pop records but can play blues doesnt mean he has to, i mean the guys a pop musician. i see the whole "hes a sellout" thing alot but you dont seem like the type to send me death threats for disagreeing

  • @chaza221 I didn't send a death threat, why are you telling me that? I think it really just falls along the lines that people want him to "pick a side" blues or pop. It's considered a shame to see his chops go to waste on some really mediocre songs. Like I said, he's a good guitar player and I listen to some of his blues stuff (though I prefer other blues players) and ignore his pop music.

  • @rocknrollguru23 nah man i meant lots of people who bash john mayer seem quite violent in their method of doing so an i was saying you didnt sound particularly violent. And i suppose i see what you mean but at the same time its up to him isnt it? artistic freedom and such but i can kinda see where your comin from.

  • @chaza221 I see no reason to be violent. I'll give John Mayer that he has chops. That song "Sucker" is a geat song. It is up to him, the question is whether or not he wants to make Pop music or does it for money. I just wonder.

I've also heard he's an asshole, but if I was banging Jennifer Aniston, I probably would be a dick too.

  • @AlanDavidMusic Thank you! People's hatred of anything labeled 'pop' needs to stop. The Beatles were pop musicians.. Hendrix was a pop musician. The music speaks for itself.

  • @AlanDavidMusic all of this hating comes from the fact that john got involved with the "celebrity world"... so his life became completely exposed, and the "people" gets influenced by all the shit that mainstream media and gossip magazines says.

  • You don't have to have talent in the 21st, you just have to come from money...that's all. that's the name of the game. It isn't "who do you know" anymore, it's "Were you born into a white family that has money"

  • You're talking out of your @r$ehole!

Jaco Pastorius wasn't rich yet Miles Davis's parents had more than enough money..how do you explain that?

Sorry buddy but I just couldn't let you make a fool of yourself any longer :-)

  • what i meant by that it seems like certain "artists" suddenly appear out of thin air and have all the money and patina that an artist like Jeff Beck or Miles Davis had to work years at to achieve. I'm not slamming Jaco or Davis...but I do have a righteous bone to pick with Mayer..but that's a whole other can of worms..and my comment on the white family s an attack on middle of the road american safe entertainment Hollywood silly sh*t. thats all. have you seen the cover of Entertainment weekly

  • John Mayer had to work to be able to play that way, I take your point about everyone being at least a little derivative to Hendrix: this goes for Beck, Vaughn and even Clapton too..

I think your point maybe directed toward lazy marketing people finding it easier to market a good looking talented white kid...hardly Mayer's fault though, is it?

When you have the talent of a Hendrix, Ellington or Mozart it leaves people very few other places to go.

  • I've seen Beck 4 times and won't spend a dime on Mayer.

  • cant hear shit ..but its kool sorta love beck and TAL and band Mayer,,ehh

  • I was up against the stage, it actually sounned WAY better then this... REALLY...

Jeff was picking up a lot of Johns "missed notes... and John looked freaked out, i mean like he was in over his head... Jeff of course just played wonderful, he said as john left, "he's a gentelman" Of course with a big grin on his face... cause we all know Jeff beck is a naughty boy...and good for him for being one and having fun!!!

  • Give me a break - what is this tabloid fodder doing breathing the same air as Jeff ??

  • singing

  • Obviously, Jeff likes his playing. That's all that matters. Forget the tabloid shit.

  • I have been into Beck since I was a teenager (late 70's) and contrary to lot's of ''guitar Players'' I can also appreciate Mayer but just to set the record straight, Beck is one of the very select few who can be considered in the same league as Hendrix and John Mayer is miles and continents away from that. Their respective command of the instrument cannot be compared in any way.

  • Isn't that Stevie Ray's Strat?!

  • Nope, it's John's...

  • nope its "the blake one" as he calls it!

  • its so noisy, and pretty loud the volume, heys guys think about the sound quality first.

  • its a phone stupid

  • i don't understand why everybody hates on john mayer. He is an accomplished musician and singer. My take on it is this: he obviously has to be quite talented for him to be on the same stage as legends like Beck, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton and others. He isn't the same as those artists but give him credit for helping revitalize blues in mainstream music. I worked at a concert hall last year and his set was the best I saw all summer.

  • yea covering another hendrix tune... right on John.. ever think about playing with Pat Metheny???

  • Of course he's not.....what does that have to do with anything?

  • Agree. Jeff Beck is on a much HIGHER level.

  • Comment removed

  • ofcourse... jeff's been around since the very early birth of rock 'n roll.... john's just showing up, and he's doin' an awesome job keeping the REAL music alive!

  • I actually shot this footage using Canon Powershot A590 IS Digital Camera it was like a $120.oo i didn't even realize that my camera shot video footage until my friend pointed it out to me... but over all it is a great camera -> however the video??!!?? , the condenser mic seems to suffer a bit and definately does not give this clip much justice..it was indeed an exellent show !! you would have had to of been there- Jeff Beck is at his finest form & if were not here this night u missed agood1 :D

  • @jbo62169 typical faggot with a phone in the air inside of jamming out

  • @nuendo2496 You're judging that off of piece of shit audio quality? Anything would sound like shit on this.

  • sounds like shit

  • Thats because of the audio recording, not the playing

  • geez man chill out at least you get to see the footage

  • don't worry nanoguy88, I am also a big Mayer fan. I was just being facishous. nuendo2496 was saying he has no talent. And in a round about way I was pointing out that many musical greats would disagree with him. that is all.

  • my bad bro...

  • Britney Spears has talent and so does George Bush. I'm not sure what it is but I'm sure it is there.

  • He's sooooooooooooo dreamy!!

  • I was there and its was awesome...John Mayer..was great!

  • you're ignorant

  • nice one underestimate Mayer :)

  • ya thats weird that Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Double Trouble, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Herbie Hancock, keep asking that no talent hack to come up and play with them... I guess they must see something we don't!

  • obviously he does have talent if the guitar Gods want him around... damn your stupid..

  • money talks
