@MrTOMSORA Yes, there are similarities especially since the ostinato is in Bb just like in Ravel but the rhythm is not the same. Oiseaux tristses I'm less sure but there are certainly common ingredients. Maybe the best way to listen to this sonata is just on its own terms. Berio is an original.
The pieces are arbitrarily related, not intentionally. Therefore it is not a "paraphrase." This piece was not "inspired" by Ravel. It is its own piece. You can't simply choose two pieces that share a common element and claim that one is a "paraphrase" of another. The word does not work in such a way.
Why is it that 80% of the music i listen to on YT is uploaded by John.

I thinck neither Ravel neither Boulez knows: but Le Gibet rounds a musical piece again.

Is this a paraphrase of "le gibet" (Ravel)?

@MrTOMSORA
Is this a paraphrase of Le Gibet or Oiseaux Tristes? I fail to see how it could be both. Or either.

@John11inch I believe is a paraphrase of Le Gibet.

@predmanos
Regardless, it is not.

@John11inch Actually, he uses patterns similar to Ravel's Le Gibet.

beautiful, but the ostinato-note is like that in "oiseux tristes" of Ravel...

Yes, one of the most substantial Berio pieces from the later decades (as is the string quartet, Notturno).
