  • Awesome

  • I loved John Denver's music. This was my favorite song of his. My wife and I danced to Annie's Song at our wedding. I get very emotional when I hear him sing. He touches my heart with all his music. Thank you for sharing your short life with us John. God bless you.

  • I was a child when I heard John Denver for the first time and he conquered my heart immediately. That was long time ago in Brazil, when I could not say a word in English yet. however, I understood him completely. He had that talent of conquering us with his voice, his smile and his beautiful eyes. He was a gifted mam. I just can't understand why people come here to say they don't like him. Maybe because they don't like sincerity. Jonh Denver had a soul as clear as chrystal.

  • @laurids2007 I love John Denver and still miss him.

  • @bananniann me too, my friend. everytime I see him on the screen, I cry many tears... Everyone that likes John Denver so much like us always cry for him. I guess it's because he was like part of our family when he was on Earth. Losing him was like losing a brother, a father. I feel as If I had lost one of my best friends, you know, this is what I feel. He was not a star, he was the Moon!

  • After John's death Annie was asked by Bryant Gumble if "Annie's Song" was her favorite of all John's music; and she said no, that it was "Perhaps Love" the version w/ Placido Domingo, that speaks volumes for this song.

  • Rest in Peace John T.T

  • I am in the mood to sing this song at a wedding now.

  • Wow, I miss John Denver.

  • john denver had one of the purest voices I've ever heard. Beautiful song!

  • How could he have left us forever...?

    Yust great!

  • Awesome!

  • No matter how often I listen to this song, by the end I'm still bawling like a three-year old.

    So beautiful :')

  • 9 people who doesn' love their parents gave thumbs down...

  • @rioalbert23

Sadly there are parents who don't deserve their children's love and visa versa.

  • I juzzz love this song...

  • Such a wonderful song from a great composer and singer: John Denver,

certainly he is so much missed, I missed him as well, if I were at the time

of his times, certainly, I would have loved to ever known him..... :0)

  • Essa música sempre me faz chorar.

    Maravilhosa!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • For me, who loves this song. Domingo's Operatic voice just doesn't fit. I love Denver's solo interpretation and when he sings it with a female in duet, but Domingo just seems to be shouting the words and I think ruins the gentle quiet, please nature of the song. Nothing against Placido. He's great at opera. I just don't like him doing this song. My opinion. That's all.

  • John Denver sounds so much better and in my humble opinion is a much better signer than Placido, not taught , natural, better

  • Beautiful!

  • Brings back good memories.

  • Simplemente fantástico, éste tipo de creaciones deberían proliferar....

  • Luv this I'm going to post my daughter and I doing this song before the end of summer.

John Denver is one of a my all time favorites. Placido Domingo aint too shabby either.

  • "If I should live forever, and all my dreams come true, my memories of love will be of you." Love you JD.

  • Placido and John Denver make this song so amazing......GOD BLESS OUR MOTHERS.....john's was there when he sand this.........

  • GOD I LOVE THIS SONG AND THE SINGERS

  • Fantastic!!!

  • How appropriate that I find this on Mother's Day! :)

  • @rakkav- dear , that was on Mother's day.May 13,1984.Pay attention to the voice behind, just before they begin to sing. You'll listen "mother's day",,,

  • @neusamiriam: Yes, I heard that - which is precisely why I said it was appropriate that I find the video on Mother's Day! :)

  • John Denver and Placido Domingo did this concert May 13, 1984. I have a list of every concert that John Denver ever did in his lifetime - this was number 989 of 1,803 concerts that he performed during his 32 year career - from 08/02/65 (Duluth, Minnesota, Denfeld Auditorium w/Mitchell Trio) to 10/05/97 (Corpus Christi, Texas, Selena Auditorium)

  • Dedicated to moms everywhere this weekend - by one of my all time favorite artists, John Denver!

  • wonderful!

  • OMG, what does or what can one say. Is this beautiful or what. But as much as I love this song with these two GREAT singers, it is a 'love - hate relationship for me. I truly love this so much but it brings back what I have lost. If only I knew what I had at the time, if only I was mature enuf to realize how wonderful a lady she was and is, perhaps love would have seen us thru.

  • WOW...John Denver and Placido Domingo...who'd a thunk! What a fabulous blend of two very different genres of vocal talent. Perhaps Love and Annie's Song are my two very favorite John Denver songs.

  • it has been and always will be my favorite tune of John Denver's...what a far out dude and gone too soon.

  • i cried =') i know it's cheesy, but this song is just too beautiful for words.

  • To L, Damien and Isabella

  • The Met's centennial was in 1984... 26 yrs ago, so I am guessing that is when it was. Makes sense to me since it was song at my wedding in 1983. Little did I know that I would meet John Denver 6 yrs later when on a night in May his daughter was born at Aspen Valley Hospital. He was such a proud papa... and she a pretty lil babe! I was blessed to have that opportunity!

  • I love this song. But I also have very nice version of it

  • john denver helped me choose my career

lol, it seems weird, but it is true...

I am the only one who knows the reason and will never disclose it

    so long

  • @hayouni1968 Sorry, I don't care...

  • Lindo nãoexistem palavras para descrever tão bonita é a musica, e que saudades, descanse em paz john.

  • such a poignant song... John and Erma reunited.... God keep them both.. Perhaps love will surround us all xx

  • 豪華な組み合わせ、夢のようだ。もちろん、歌唱も言うことなし。

  • una cancion muy hermosa y maravillosamente interpretada

  • What a lovely song he basically had to his Mom - I'm sure my heart as well as many others goes out to the family - may they bring you peace and their light shine upon you until you are all together again. God Bless!

  • John's Mom died on Sunday. Rest in Piece,Erma, and say hi to John for us.

Lovely article on the Denver Post website called 'Remembering John Denver's Mother' by John Moore. His family sound like lovely people. RIP Erma & John.

  • John lovely Denver,we think you.

  • Love is what makes the world spin, what light the lights in the childrens eyes, the purpose and meaning of everything ... it is so simple

  • I don´t enjoy very much duets between opera and pop singers, but this one works very well. The melody is beautifull and John Denver´s clear voice adds a nice contrast to Domigo´s glorius vocals. In fact I think Jonh Dever had a very good voice for a pop singer, very bright and with a strong sense of melody on it. Thanks for posting

  • I subscribe to every word

  • @Ivanbelastegui I wouldn't call John Denver a pop singer, country or folk works better. When I think of pop i think of the garbage that gets played on the radio 12 times a day

  • @CorganIsBeast He preferred being called a Western singer. Not Country - not pop - but Western. Record companies/stores had no idea where to put him - so they created an entire catagory - just for him: Easy Listening!!!! And it now includes about half of the recording artists - including the Eagles!!!!!!

  • @Ivanbelastegui John Denver is not a pop singer. He sings.

  • Perhaps love? Perhaps the perfect melody of love!

  • Esta é uma das canções mais lindas, tanto em sua linha melódica, quanto ao texto.

E, cantanda pelos dois expoentes, ficou ainda mais maravilhosas.

Pena a perda prematura do John Denver.

  • two genius on stage

  • no doubt good music lasts for ever

  • The world is a sadder place when it lost JD he wrote the most beautiful songs with such meaningful words.

    Miss you John.

  • This song is eternal

  • The more I listen to music, the more I keep returning to John Denver's songs. He wrote some wonderful, uplifting songs about all the good things in life, with a purity & understanding. Thank you to everyone who has posted his songs on youtube.

  • preciosa canción

  • Absolutely superb. Thanks for uploading it.

  • First time I ever heard this song I had to pull my car over to the side of the road. No song has ever struck me as beautifully written and performed as this.

  • Two great talents, one great song, it doesn't get any better than this...

  • I love you K.V. Enjoy my love

  • DSK II and Isabella-

My Memories of Love Will Be Of You!

I will always be with you.

    Love Daddy

  • Great harmonizing! Rest in Peace John

  • Beautiful.

Funny how Domingos holds his microphone like a KFC chicken leg. :)

  • Perhaps love! Thanks for this wonderful song and this wonderful duet.

  • which other pop/folk/country singer has ever sung with placido domingo? denver has

  • Great! Awesome. Thanks for posting.

  • Very nice tribute to mothers everywhere. John's ability to write meaningful lyrics can never be taken for granted nor his ability to sing them so well. Thanks for posting.

  • John Denver was the greatest folk singer ever! And I find Domingo is far more enjoyable in popular music than in opera. He actually does quite well here. Good job.

  • I love Placido!!!

  • At a concert in Los Angeles, John told a story about how he would practice with his guitar in the evenings on the beaches of Long Beac, and he would long to have an audience to play for....and he certainly got his wish! Incredible, fantastic talent! John, we miss you terribly!

  • He was born to make music. I feel lucky to have lived when he did. What a great voice and talent.

John, I miss you but I know you are in a much better place than I.

    Thanks for posting, awesome.

  • absolutely beautiful. i miss jd.

  • What a beautiful introduction and the fact that John's mother was in the audience that night...wonderful duet...

  • bravo

  • It doesn't come any better than this. Two beautiful voices and two handsome men. I've always loved listening to both of these men, and how delightful to see them singing it together. Thank you for posting this lovely video.

  • Very beautiful, very melodic. Thanks for sending, Susanna.

  • You are so welcome, Loretta. Beauty like this should be shared. So glad you liked it.

  • Che meraviglia..............

  • I like the plugged version more because here Placido must hold back so much... His voice is so strong he would sing John down..

  • Oh, how I wish I could make my mom proud of me one day...

How proud she must have been of her son that day! And all other days, of all the songs he made, all the people he made happy.

Im soooo proud of my kids =o)

    Love...how wonderful.

  • What a beautiful song. John Denver was truly a gifted composer of love songs. This will bring tears to my eyes. Wouldn't it have been wonderful to have heard Pavarotti singing this!

  • With due respect: Maybe it would've been nice, but to what purpose if this is just perfect! Maybe nice, but never better. John knew exactly his best choice for this song. And not that Luciano didn't like to duet with other popular singers.

  • We all have our favorites of course. But what would have made this incomparable would be if my own son had written this for me. Ah, but to dream!

  • Oh! No doubt that could be any mother 's most precious dream. But that's the magic of JD's gift; that any one of us can make it his own, and offer it to a loved one! isn't it? BTW, I wouldn't have "Nessun Dorma" or "O Sole Mio" by anyone else than Luciano. God bless his soul.

  • Hey,viperjester!(Cool name,BTW.)

The recording of this duet was a happy accident.

JD had recorded the song for RCA,& they REJECTED the album! They took his producer,Milt Okun away from him,& made him do a country album with Larry Butler. Milt, who was producing Placido's first pop album, asked JD if he could give the song to Placi. Then Milt had the idea of the duet! So I think Milt deserves to get more recognition for saving the rejected song & bringing this divine song to the world.

  • Hey BW! (intriguing nick ;) Thanks for that awsome piece of info! One would say that it's a very small world, or what are the odds? right?, but it seems that great things always come to be in the strangest of ways, don't they? "perhaps love...perhaps destiny?". Thank God and thank Milt we have this masterpiece for the whole world to rediscover love at its best! And thanks to blsimms for sharing.

  • Opal Lee Kriegbaum

  • this makes me feel wistful on a rainy valentines day eve

  • Al escuchar esta canción me remonto a esos tambièn maravillosos años de mi adolescencia en Temuco, Chile.

  • How wonderful! I´ve loved this song from the first moment I´ve heard it. John Denver was such a great composer - R.I.P.

I had "Perhaps Love" sung at my wedding by 2 members of the Viennese state opera: Peter Paul Hassler and Tobias Cambensy who did it so beautifully... every time I hear John Denver and Placido Domingo perform this song I have to think of my own wedding!

Thank you for this breath-taking song, John, wherever you may be now. We have not forgotten you.

  • If you listen to this song with just your heart...you will understand that this song is about love of every kind....the most pure love on this planet....the most pure love period. God bless John and his lyrics

  • He was such a simple man, yet such a great and BIG man in every way possible.

The world lost something very special the day he left us. Think of all the songs he never got to write...But Im thankful for all the songs we have =o) He was a blessing to this world! I think a lot of people never saw this before he was gone. What a true blessing he really was. How great he was.

  • Absolutely Perfect Show! Thank you all!

  • John Denver was truly a gifted song writer. This is so very lovely and brings a tear to my eye each time I hear it.

  • a gifted tenor and a folk master..................never once again

  • It may be funny - a tenor and a song writer singing together... but: both have been friends and they both love/loved this kind of music ... how wonderful.

  • A beautiful song that stirs the soul....everytime

  • 2 superb legends, what a lovely song !

  • Excellent Comment!!!...

When music still represented man's higher longings and aspirations! It's a shame we've fallen as far as we have. But many of us still have this!!!

  • maestra

  • Beautiful song and great performance. Thanks for posting.

  • Every mother has to dream of having her son dedicate a song to her at the Met with Placido at his side ready to sing with him!

  • I like Perhaps Love song so much T^T

  • My cup runneth over. Thank you for sharing.

  • I have listened this song for many times but I have never watched a live performance of Placido Domingo and John Denver together before. Watching them singing this song together with beautiful orchestra music in the background brought me tears. Very beautiful. Thank you for posting this clip.

  • The year is 1983. Two great artists!

  • Great -when I first heard this song -- tears still ran me over my face

and yesterday - I heard this song with Rolando Villazon and Placido Domingo - genial ...

    and the tears comming back

thanks JD for this wonderful song

  • Oh John i miss your voice!

  • Being a JD fan for so many years, I can't remember this, and am totally blow away. Thank you for sharing this.

  • beautiful, written out of such pain with the loss of his dad at the time, so deeply profound, i love this song, it describes love to a T

  • I agree. Occasioally there comes along a song that is just "right." Many of JD's fit that description perfectly.

  • The contrast in accents and vocal styles is nice and showed potential, but unfortunately Domingo's voice lacked proper regulation as if he was running short of breath. At the beginning for example, he delivered a string of words at a galloping pace as if he was in hurry to get that part of the song over with. Denver was in my opinion the superior performer by far.

  • Interesting and astute observations!

  • Yes this is magic. Great vid but who cares about sonicstep's opinion... there are always those "experts" who can't leave a page without critiqueing everything to death.

This is absolutely beautiful. I'll be directing friends to this site.

  • Glad you liked it.

  • I totally agree with you, SonicStep: JD was, by far, much better than Domingo. Additionally, I think that Domingo should thank JD about his fame in the US, because before this song, he was almost unknown. The "King" was at that time -and I think still is- Pavarotti.

  • What a relief that Placido didn't depend on your expert aproval! Fortunately many foremost authorities proclaimed him the best of modern tenors. This may be disputed by others, but his greatness could never be diminished.

  • @sonicstep

As great as John Denver was your comment is totally disrespectful to Mr. Domingo who was/is an opera singer. Also, the comment is totally inaccurate, I don't know what video were you watching but you are absolutely out of bounds. Total distortion of reality.

  • This is what you call a perfect song. John, you are so missed!

  • SO so so beautiful!

  • This footage is priceless. I do not think I could have ever got this in any retail outlet.Thank you for posting it

  • You're welcome...I love it too.

  • I agree. Thank-you so much.

  • That was Rad!

ihave listened to this song with them singing together many times and have never seen the footage. Completely Loved it.

    Thank You,blsimms.

  • Glad you enjoyed it...one of my favorites!

  • how can words express such incredible magic?

  • Que maravilha!! Arrepia!! Música e intérpretes fabulosos...

  • Wonderful music...My favorite song! Thank you for sharing and bringing back the memories...

  • Thank you so much swoon4josh.

Yes I have just added Josh Groban to my list of favourite singers also!

  • This is my favourite song. I had if played at my husband's funeral. The blending of these two voices is perfect and Placido is my all time favourite singer. I have seen other versions but this is the best. Many thanks.

  • I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Such great voices separately and together totally awesome!

  • Oh, so sorry you lost your husband, inclusio, but what a wonderful song choice. My 2 favorite singers, (and now I've added Josh Groban), I've loved that song for decades, but haven't seen that video before. an awesome performance!

  • That was awesome

    Thanks for sharing
