the voice on the left is clearly an attempt at a Boston accent ("caaaah", "yaaahd"), and i guess the right one is a New York accent? it's an awful one, at that, but at least they tried.

you're right, though: it would have been much, much worse if they attempted Italian accents. most likely they would've sounded like bad New Jersey stereotypes.
