Crude oil does not explode but pockets of natural gas are sometime hit. This was in the 70's I should think they would have more safety systems now than then.

@MutantKush I hear you and agree that we need to end our dependency on foreign oil but the point is that we can't drill our way into the future, whether it's foreign or domestic oil. Using our own unsustainable dirty oil resources will only give the US about 2 months worth of fuel at the rate of our current consumption and won't make a dent in opec.

I will continue to protest, it's not a waste of time. The West Coast Senators along with the Governator have declared it off limits to offshore oil because of public outcry, you see it works. May be you should try it too. Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.
