Except for the wheels, this is my first car, bought in May 1980 for $700.00.

Sadly, I ley my girlfriend at the time drive it and she wrecked it. Two weeks before Christmas in the same year.

72 gran torino 'sport' is equal to the 72 mustang 'mach 1' . in 1971 you had the torino 'GT' but when the gran torino came out in 72, gran torino GT sounded funny ,so they called them SPORTS . AND JUST LIKE THE 72 MACH 1 , U CAN GET THE MACH 1 AND GRAN TORINO SPORT WITH A 302 , 351 2V OR THE 351 CJ . ford did however make about 275 '72 mach 1's with the more powerful 351 H.O [WHICH WAS A 351 BOSS DESIGNED TO RUN ON REGULAR GAS ]

Nothing special, racing hart AR500 rims look exactly the same only they were aftermarket... and just by the sound it is a 2 Barrel 351 small block.... my camaro would blow this to pieces...

Yea, but who gives a fuck? Chevrolet couldn't make a decent car since the early 70s... That's why they're in so much financial trouble. While Ford didn't receive bailout money and still does better out of all big three American car companies. Great quality and performance matched with a balanced price.

Yeah, and that's a damn dirty lie. There's now way in HELL that the Camaro is outselling the Mustang, you just don't see them as often as you see the new 5.0 Mustang. Go look at sales figures, and then compare the stock share values for each company.. I bought a ton of shares of FoMoCo's stock when they were down to $2.50 per share, now their stock is sitting at $15.00 per share. FoMoCo knows how to get it done. GM is just sitting there playing with their food.

QUESTION: I have dads 72 gran torino fastback, "SPORT" it has METAL instead of tape. "sport" is in metal scrpit AND the side stripes are METAL... WHY does mine have METAL, and all the rest have tape?????

The same style. All of the big names of the era had a version of these wheels. They are called "Magnum 500's" I think AMC even had a variant of this style wheel as well.

Those are 'magnum 500' rims. FORD buick, dodge, and pontiac used them NOT SURE about 'chevy'.

they were a 'dealer option' or could be special order - they were the ORIGINAL "MAG WHEEL".

You have a beautiful 72 torino, I have one just like it, same color sceam, it is a "Q" code car getting ready to paint it but having a heard time finding the right color straps all i can find is "yellow fade into brown" I need the one like you have "Tan fade into brown" could you share with me where you got them.
