  • thats why you should buy bronze bushed rods a floating pins there more durable can handle more revs and is better all around

  • Hello, my English is not very good, I'm from Argentina, I have a question, it is necessary that process? what is the advantage? Thanks and greetings from Argentina

  • ow 1 more question: do you oil up the pin or the pin holes in the piston?

  • Yes, pin and piston both.

  • doesnt this make the rod brittle?

  • No, not that we've been able to detect.

  • @k0ent being allowed to air quench, rod will not become brittle. If this were oil or water quenched, then this would likely be an issue. Air quenching like this actually takes out internal stresses from the manu. process.

  • Is this required for all press fit wrist pins?

  • Pretty much, it's this or use a press. This causes less stress to the piston, pin, and rod.

  • John, great video. Can you show us press-fit pin removal sometime?

  • Good stuff.

Why not freeze the pin? : D

  • Less expensive than freezing the pin, plus there's more mass in the rod than the pin. I'm affraid that the pins would loose temp too quickly - interesting concept though!

  • maybe a battery powered lamp ?. bummer i wanted to see what ya did

  • why sooo dark master? heh I can see alittle but why dark room?

  • The circuit that the rod heater is on is the same one as the cleanroom - when I have both going at the same time the breaker pops.

  • oh understandable looks like I need to come down there and help you reroute your power lines. heh heh

  • Why the rod has to be heat up ? I see my mechanic did not do the same step when making the pin into the pistons (Nisaan SR20DET engine) !

  • The SR engine has pin clips, this is a press-fit pin where the rod is heated to expand the hole so that the pin can be slipped into place.

  • so when you do this are you eliminating retainer clips?

  • These are press-fit pins and don't use retainers.

  • I've never done this myself, but have seen it done and he is right, if you don't get it right... its a real pain to remove the pin! So like he said, once you get into it, don't stop until your done!!

  • thats my least favorite activity in engine assembly.....

Messed up about half of em putting them on, Pressing them back off was nerve wracking as well

  • alittle dark eh

  • Yeah, it's a power thing w/heater and assembly room lights/fans being on the same circuit.

  • @30GB

How high is the suitable temperture reached ?
