What IS it about these furry creatures that we all love so much? My own Basset Hound that I got a few weeks ago and fit into one of my hands and now I struggle to pick him up with two - I almost cried today when I realized the day would come he would be too big to pick up at all...what the heck? I don't understand the psychology behind loving him (them) so much!

@TheSaintsfox well honestly it depends. size is one difference obviously. the bigger the dog the bigger the stomach to feed. more expensive overal to take care off. bigger dog can get up and down from some distances of places much easier than a mini dachshund. Mini weenie dog is easier to pick up ( most of them are not meant to weight more than i think 15 ish pounds? ) regular dachshunds can be twice as big, i think twice as heavy. Not much more differences than those. cheers

I have a Tweenie. its a little bigger than mini but smaller than a standard. I like it because he is small enough to sit on your lap but at the same time we can roughhouse and play around. I love my Brutus!

He is sooo cute and they are not poop factories if You Feed and train them right. My little one learned to use those doggy pads you see one of in the kitchen so during snow or rain He knows exactly where to go. Doxies want so hard to please so if you are patient with positive reinforcement your hotdog will reward you with good behavior. Barking? Well that is another matter!! Once You have a dachshund You will always have One. So Loving, Cute, smart and Clean. No smell either!

just thought i should tell you. try not to make him/she go upstairs or jump on furniture, Why? well they bugger disks in their back and they can be put down from time to time because of that. my mini one stuffed a disk in his back, 10 grand operation with no guarantee. we couldnt rapp out heads around the price, so we could'nt do it but without the operation hes going fine. he cant really run anymore but he walks now. Which is good. im glad he didnt have to be put down. nice mini by the way.
