I wouldn't say this was German Expressionistic, more film noir. The shadows should have been a lot longer, the acting should have been more OTT, make up could have been used to give the characters a Burtonesque feel with pale faces and heavily-lidded eyes, etc, and the storyline didn't seem very German Expressionistic.
German Expressionism was very much theatrical, but this felt more like a film noir.
