Tibet alone cannot survive economically especially without China economic aids each year.

I think that there actually are a lot of people who have the foresight to realize that if they screw up something like an ecosystem badly enough, they and everyone around them will end up paying for it. Not a lot of them in governments however, it seems...granted. I'm not exactly a 'glass half-full' kinda guy, so it's ironic for me to take this stance, but I think it's more realistic. I just hope I'm not wrong...

One has to wonder if THEY (the Chinese) will be any more adept at Deep-water drilling for petroleum deposits, than the idiots who caused the fiasco in the gulf of Mexico. Hopefully all that drive for superior education will have created a group of tech-savvy people with the breadth of vision to realize that the destruction of the ocean will result in the destruction of most of the life on this planet...

@geawesomenessed protests for freeedom? source? the vast majority of protests occurs in western china where its the poorest, they're protesting for more economic aid and development away from east china into west, they're not protesting for democracy or freedom, contrary to western belief. Most chinese just want a good life, meaning good job and fiancial stabilty, not democracy bs you western ppl seem to be obsess with. Different Cultures, different values, something ppl need to learn

No it doesn't mean the govt is failing, it just has focused on east china, but that's natural, in a country of 1.3 billion ppl and countless regions, its difficult to develop all regions equally, but that's changing, both CCP and its leaders are aware of this, thats why they're trying to shift some economic bases from the east into west regions, once that's achieved, those farmers won't have a cause to protest

@geawesomenessed Because its part of China for centuries, Tibet for example has been part of China longer than Texas with the US. Also Tibet geographical location is too valuable for China to lose, as it serve as kind of barrier against powers in the West, like India anyway even the dalai lama publicly said that he doesn't want an independent Tibet but rather have it be semi autonomous. Tibet alone cannot survive economically especially without China economic aids each year.

@jachina Chinese soldiers oppress Tibetian people, they only care about the land. Same with the Muslims in the north. China covers is up. Did you know the Chinese are actively fighting Muslim rebells and supressing 2000+ revolutions. Also during the olympics china didnt allow foreign press to show video footage thats not government approved. Thats why the ceremony practice was cut into the footage so it looks better.

Although I wouldnt call people campainging to influence their own governments policy towards China and its forced occupation of other nations as mindless. Human rights has always been a barrier between China and the West and it nearly always comes up in bilateral talks.

@geawesomenessed They do, although one cant single them out, many countries oppress sections for the perceived greater good of thier nations. Secessionist movements are rarely tolerated anywhere. There is no denying China wants the resources of Tibet and Uighur Xinjiang over concern for their inhabitants, but then how Russian is Siberia? I see that as a future area of contention between China and the Russian Federation. Again it will really be about resourse disguised as somthing else.

Siberia is Russian so long as China lacks the desire to retake it. The Treaty of Aigun of 1848 will be peacefully reverted through demographic invasion. 1.4 billion Chinese are bursting at the seams whereas the plentiful resource abundant Siberia is seemingly infinite, is sprasely populated with Russians.

Yeah, Tibet has been a part of China for long time - when did U.S. steal Texas from the Mexicans or Florida from the Spanish? That's less than 2 centuries ago, and back then, Tibet was firmly in China's territorial hands.
