  • That fan is a Harbor Breeze Whitestar.

  • Why dont you have bulbs in the other two lights on your ceiling fan?

  • i have those in all of my lights

  • Man, regardless of whether the ballast looks bad or not, it was because the bulb was burning out. In compact fluorescent bulbs, when they go, both the bulb AND the ballast goes, most of the time. They produce a very smokey smell afterwards. That's why I think ordinary fluorescent tubes are better then compact ones.

  • I think this guy knows how CFLs work: In which case what do you think it the best type of CFL: Mini-Spiral or Tubular, most of ours are Tubular, but we have recently got 2 8 Watt Mini-Spiral and 2 20 Watt Mini-Spirals, I don't really like CFLs over 11 or 14 Watts: too bright

  • he eats light bulbs. thats why home depot is out of light bulbs because its his grocery store

  • what a sandwich or something like that what di you eat?

  • Chicken Sandwich

  • what did you have to eat?

  • Lunch

  • Congratulations Genius!! You can change a lightblub! :) Also which one lasts longer. The "instant" start electronic, or the"rapid" start. I personally like the preheat magnetic screw in ballasts myself you know like the GE one that you have in your desk light.. Overall this is a great video.

  • I'm sure the rapid start "GreenLite" should last longer as it's more "gentle" on starting.

I did try the GE ballast in the ceiling fan but it's too tall and sticks out a lot.

  • I Agree. Another Factor Is How Much You Use The Bulbs And How Much They Go On And Off. I Also Wonder If The Ceiling Fan Can Cause Them To Go Early? From The Shakeing.

  • Did you see my "ballast harvest" I did a while back?

  • Yes, I've seen that.

I'll have to wait until later this weekend to do a ballast harvest on this bulb as I need to borrow a Dremel from my Uncle to cut the casing apart.

I have harvested a ballast from another one of these as well (a brand new one) to use in a F20T12 fixture but it took a while using a hack-saw.

  • I cant remember, did i learn the term ballast harvest from you or did you learn it from me :)

  • I got it from your video.

It used to be that I used the term salvage or cannibalize to describe me taking stuff/old equipment apart to use the parts to build something else.

  • AWESOME!! I love it when I "rub" off on people! Make sure you show us when you harvest the ballast!

  • What did you have to eat?

  • he had light bulbs for dinner ha ha!

  • Who said I ate light bulbs ?!
