Man, games looked so Mickey Mouse back then. And even then, the 2-D Sonic games were fun. Sonic has always been edgier, more adventurous than Mario and was always the higher quality franchise.

"Twice as big as Sonic 2?" If I remember correctly, Sonic 3 in it's basic form was HALF the size of Sonic 2. If you combined it with Sonic & Knuckles, it was longer, but that wasn't out when this commercial aired...

@SergeantLuke True, but I believe Sega intended from the start for Sonic 3 to be twice as big as Sonic 2. They couldn't fit everything they wanted onto one cartridge, so they created the Lock-On technology with Sonic & Knuckles to include the rest.

@SergeantLuke It may only have six Zones, but they're far bigger and more complex (and in my own opinion, better designed) than Sonic 2's Zones ever were. You're likely to run out of time in Carnival Night act 2 on your first few runs, even if you manage to figure out the cryptic barrel obstacle. The only way you'd run out of time in the other games would be if you were messing around trying to do something like finding all the rings. =P

@SergeantLuke sonic 3 was originally supposed to have all the 's3k' content, but it got delayed and missed the holiday 1993 season. but sega of america wanted a holiday sonic release, so they decided to split sonic 3 for a spring 1994 release and holiday 1994 release with s&k. soo maybe the commercial was filmed before the delay? i dunno
