  • i overclock my i7 920 to 4ghz @stock fan. everything default settings, all volts auto. the only thing i changed is the baseclock to 200. full load 83°C. is this ok? without changing any volts?

  • @esponert105 - 83C is too high.

  • Good old days huh time s flying so fast. now 4 GHZ is getting a little to slow these days :)

  • @HansensUniverse Too slow for what exactly? As I see it there is still no use for HT or clocks above 3.6GHz in the gaming world (besides MAYBE if you run a 3k$+ setup with tri-sli in BF3 64Player MP) so I don't see your point.

And the only reason we'd even have to overclock our i7 in the first place was because the games before BF3 didn't really use more than 2 cores.

  • I'm running an i7-920 on the Asus P6T, but I could only get it past 3.06GHz before it failed and I had to start over, and I'm running a Silver Arrow on top of it using EVGA Frostbite thermal compound. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

  • This video is totally pointless. All you've done is get a bunch of people to crank their clock way up without doing anything necessary to make it stable.

  • I did this today and was able to get 3.9 GHz from my 920 2.67 GHz thanks for the guide.

  • I have an i7 920 and a x6 1100t !!! What do you think ? Stay with i7 or amd ??? When is the best time to upgrade to z68 or something ??? please reply !!!

  • @TheXtremeGamer90 - They're both pretty equal CPUs. If you need to sell one of these, sell the X6 1100T, wait and get AMD Bulldozer in a few months.

  • Can i overclock my i7 920 C0 at 4ghz or i have to buy an D0 one ???

  • @TheXtremeGamer90 - You can overclock C0 i7 920 to 4GHz.

  • @arvutihull Can i oveerclock my i7 950 3.06 Ghz?? if so. how many ghz will it be able to go up to?

  • @TobbenCod - Yes. Depends on your cooling and how good CPU you got.

  • hey im new to overclocking what cooler are you using here i have the exact same mob and cpu

  • @scrs94 - I used Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 cooler.

  • @arvutihull thanks would you recommend me some better? or is this one of the best?

  • What heatsink do you use?

  • Hi there, I followed these instructions yet when i check my clock speed it still shows the core clock of 2.67 ghz. Any ideas what I did wrong?

  • @leefost - Maybe you didn't save the settings when you left BIOS?

  • @arvutihull No I did, downloaded cpu Z and that looks right. Got a 7.1 on cinebench which is ok i think? Its just windows shows it still at stock. 85c under load btw, is that safe? Thanks.

  • @leefost - 85C is a bit too hot, turn it down a bit. If CPU-Z shows the right frequency everything is OK.

  • I agree, the ssd are ridiculously priced for the capacity, but if you can afford one then go ahead but in my opinion the velociraptors are just as fast and much cheaper.

  • I have a question...

I have a i7 920 D0 steeping myself... I have a 4.2 Overclock when at Full Load under Prime 95 or Everest CPU stress test...

BUT... when i turn off prime 95 and the Everest Stress test the CPU than goes back down to 2.4 ghz... it's like the cpu only overclocks itself when the speed is needed...

but i was wondering if i can get my cpu to run at 4.2...24/7 without the speed going down when i am not using a Full Load...???

i hope that you understand what i'm trying to say.?

  • @Rocism01 - There is no need to have the CPU at 4.2GHz instead of 2.4GHz when at idle.

  • turn off c1e and speedstep in your bios setting. then go to windows and right click the desktop and select properties, then go screen saver tab and click "power" button below the block. when you get there then select the option as "always on" in the first scroll. then select follow rest of the option scroll such as "turn off monitor" "turn off hard drive" "system standby" which these would capable to slow down the processor (especially on vista/7)

  • I have NH-U12P for my core i7 920, my current OC is @ 3.6 ghz and at full load in never gets warmer than 63 celsius. Do you think I could reach 4.0 with the Noctua cooler?

  • @vipe020 - Yes.

  • holy desktop icons

  • Please change you Hdd for SSD hd

    The boot is prehistoric

  • @merysantapola - I can survive the boot time.

  • @arvutihull

    Hi

    Great truth

    Greetings

  • @merysantapola lol pay 100 bucks for 60 gig ssd? no thx idiot, in year or two they get so much cheaper...

  • @Dex1n

Thinking as you hope 20 years to buy...In 2 years there will be other news SSD.

Then it will have to wait for 2 years to that they return to be cheap. It enjoys the present

    It will always go delayed.

    Greetings

  • @merysantapola Well that comment didn't make any sense, you don't need to buy the latest SSD's imo, even these will be just fine, unless you want the best. Myself I wouldn't ever waste that much money on SSD... rather get better processor and graphics card for that money... And SSD prices will eventually drop, like HDD's prices dropped... it's ridiculous to say otherwise. You get better components for price you would used on SSD, sure its faster, but better CPU and GPU are better option for me..

  • @Dex1n

    Hi

All we know the catastrophic thing that are to buy hardware.

CPU & GPU that months back cost a fortune now give them. Example I7 950. If you want to always mount a New PC with the latest it will be expensive. As long as it has sufficient Bucks...it is only my opinion

    I enjoyed you debating, greetings

  • @merysantapola Looks like you still didn't get my point. You will manage longer with better cpu and gpu with hdd than with not so good cpu and gpu with ssd.

  • @Dex1n

I understand to you perfectly, from the first moment. But I if I assemble a PC of last generation include a SSD for install Windows and programs only.

That they will be but cheap I know, it. Another people spend her money in drugs...

I bought great CPU and MB, GPU ,RAM Case, etc, then also a great Hard drive. It is not less important.

If you have a fast PC you lose speed and it by a HDD, also you lose money. Everything what spent in CPU GPU etc, delays the saving of the HDD.

  • @merysantapola Depends what you're doing with your pc. I'm mostly gaming or just surfing on internet. I don't find SSD's that important for what I do. More about Graphics card, but also about CPU. When you are running program, most of its "data" is on your RAM when you're running it, and RAM is significantly faster than SSD. Getting an SSD boosts your boot, load and access times. But like I said, once you have loaded the program, its running on your RAM..

  • @Dex1n Hi my friend It is not necessary that it explains to me as works a PC, Work in computers for 20 years...

I have 3 Pc´s, one for multimedia, other for surf/download´s and one gaming pc. My main disc is ssd

Ocz vertex 2 120GB for boot windows7 and last games only. For archives I have 2 WD Caviar Black 2TB in RAID 0. I have a boot time of 15 seconds. With a mechanical HDD it is impossible. You proved or you have a SSD in PC?

It remembers In a PC the slowest component marks the rate.

  • @merysantapola LET ME put it out the most simple way. If you have a bad graphics card and fast SSD, you cant max out the latest game's graphics, however IF you have great graphics card and HDD you can max out the game.

SSD's are heavily overpriced and I won't get one before they get more reasonable price, I mean lol pay more for your SSD than CPU? no thx. Anyway in the future I will get an SSD, of course it boosts things up, but in gaming it doesn't give you higher FPS...

  • @merysantapola And I don't really mind boot time, prefer maxing out game when gaming. Of course you can get both, SSD and fast CPU and GPU, but obviously that will cost you more :)

  • THAT simple?

  • I made a PC with top of the line Air and i want to overclock my CPU and have the settings done so i can use as much of my 52MBS Download 3.2 MBS Upload. My Ram is Munskin 6.7.6.18 1N Qpi/Dram voltage 1.375 Dram bus voltage 1.60 Cpu 21x133 2.8ghz right now its 6Gig Ram 1600 Tripple Channel I was going to do 200 so 21x200=4.2Ghz but i'm not sure as A few others have said its not workking for them.I have 10 Fans in my case so i know it moves alot of air

  • I have a Coolermaster V8 Cpu fan. Will that be good enough for overclocking?

  • @hoser1268 - Yes, should be.

  • Dude, i punched in your values and it fricken works. For so long i have been wanting to OC my cpu, and now its done. I did it in like 2 secs. Having no issues what so ever. Thanks a million.

  • Hi, I got an i7 950 to 4.01ghz on 1.26850 cpu volt, 1.2250 qpi, ...21 ratio, 191 bclk.. temps idle 40c, 75c prime load... Is this a shit or unsafe overclock?

power consumption 140watt idle, 260 watt prime load.. that's up from stock 3.06ghz at 105watt idle, 225 load. So that's an increase of 35watt with the overclock.. and temps were 35c and 70c load. which is interesting considering it runs a full 1ghz faster now and only 5c hotter. What bios settings reduce the power consumption?

  • @emuholic - No need to be worried about the power consumption, it doesn't break anything. 75C at load is good and fine for 24/7 use.

  • @arvutihull hi, do you know what settings in the bios cause the most increases in heat when cranked up or enabled?

  • @emuholic - CPU core voltage and Hyper Threading.

  • @emuholic The key thing is really to test for stability at that point. It's good you got your computer up and going, but run Prime95 for a few hours, or run LinX for 20 tests on max prob size. If you pass those then you got yourself a nice overclock!

  • @gemgem92 - If it doesn't crash during 24/7 use it's stable.

  • hey did you know you can fix that cpu fan error your getting very easily via bios

  • @zchiqa - Yes.

  • i have the alienware i7 920 2x 5770 ati cards can i overclock it

  • @reedy111111111111111 - Depends on the temps.

  • @reedy it would be bad with the Alienware stock cooling, which I suppose is that crappy self contained liquid cooling H50 lookalike or fan cooling right. The temps in a Alienware are high enough without any liquid cooling.

  • just a question have the i7-920 also , with an scythe katana 3 cooler , can i get with this cooler 4.1 Ghz ??? ps , i run with open case , so i get some cool airflow also to the cpu

  • @MrVAPilot - Depends on the temps.

  • What do you mean stock cooler? Is that the regular cooling options. Could I oc TO 4.0 ghz with a noctua dh14/12 and a haf 932 case with it's default fans?

  • @KalmahRocks - Depends on what temps you're getting.

  • what is D0 and C0 stepping??

  • Will I be able to reach 4,1 with a c0 and a xigmatek balder?

  • @flyingwhaletamer i think C0 4,1ghz needs more than 1,4V and then u need better air cooler or maby even H2O

  • Original ventirad ?

  • why the fuck do someoby want to OC a i7 ?

  • @ovidiu9412 - To make it faster.

  • @arvutihull its already faster

  • @networksoldier - Faster than what?

  • @arvutihull than everything

  • @Dynose - Overclocked i7 is faster than default clocked i7, so default clocked i7 is slower than overclocked i7 - default clocked i7 is not faster than everything.

  • @arvutihull true^^ , surely everybody know overclocking is sooooo dangerous :P^^

  • @ovidiu9412 Dumbass -_-

  • Okay now my computer is fucked up. I need to upgrade my ram to keep the overclock. I got BSOD after a random short time in OS and after the BSOD i get error from the VGA driver. Then i reboot and it seems to be working but as soon as i launch a software it goes BSOD. And the pc was really slow. So now, bios is back to default.

  • Finally!! Dude, thanks for all the help you have given me! I finally managed to overclock the cpu to 4ghz!!! Now i will run prime95 in some hours and do the motorcyclethimg test:D thanks!!

  • what is D0 and C0 stepping???

and wich cooler do you use??

    i have i7 930, P6TSE, XMS3 6GB@1600Mhz, and Noctua NH u12p se2. how do i overclock it??? and how much??

  • @ik1371995 - I used Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 cooler.

  • @ik1371995 D0 is better for overclocking. C0 is much hotter and need more voltage than D0

  • @Lerppu86

Could be, but I heard that there are a lot of crappy D0's too! Mainly the latest ones.

I own a C0/C1 which needs like 1.42-1.44V for 4GHz but i keep getting the damn 124 bluescreen no matter if my mem is at 1150Mhz or 1500MHz, mobo is P6T se

  • no...high noise is caused by your loud ass computer that has like a 4000 rpm fan to cool your overclock at those voltages.

  • @ProjectRealityBf2 - Yes, what was that ''no'' supposed to mean? It's 2800rpm by the way.

  • @arvutihull it means you are using excuses to cover up the fact that was your computer that was loud in your video by saying it was the camera that was being loud!

  • @ProjectRealityBf2 - Computer is loud and camera makes it even louder.

  • Sounds like you live on an airstrip? :P

  • @kezune90 - If you want to know why it is so loud and why it has to be so loud check my channel's FAQ in my channel description.

  • Umm, it's not so clever to let all those setting on "auto" because your mobo can get crazy and put some outrageous voltages to the components. Though, i tried many things and i can't get my 920 above 3.84GHz (Mugen2 Cooler and P6T SE mobo)

  • @czolgista999 i got my 930 to 4.01GHz on stock cooler, you can almost taste my smugness

  • @bendikn

And now check ur temps :D

  • @czolgista999 40 degrees celsius idle and 75 after 10mins of Prime95, you can almost taste my smugness

  • öhm, don´t you think that 1,44v vcore is a little bit to much? And your other voltages would not be better, thats the problem with auto-voltage-settings, if you use auto and screw up the frequencies, your board boost the voltage to sensless or dangerous setting.

  • Can i do the same with my i7 930? I got the same motherboard as you + noctua dh14

  • @naits95 - No, i7 930 has a different multiplier.

  • @arvutihull 21x right? it least thats what i used to let it go up to 3ghz. But i can't boot if i overclock higher...

  • @arvutihull core i7 920 has a maximum multi of 21, the i7 930 has a max multi of 22, but its unimportant for this oc-setting, because you can reduce the multi very simply in your bios.

  • @arvutihull my i7 blue screens when i go past 136 mhz any idea why

  • Im trying to learn how to OC. What settings would you change for your i7 920 to OC for a i7 930 (I heard its different). Thanks.

  • @Cobija13 - To OC to the speed of i7 930 you need to change the BCLK frequency to 136, it should work and there is no need to change any other things for an overclock this small.

  • What cooling did you use for the overclock?

  • @NikacXMKD - Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 + SilverStone 800~2600rpm 107.9 CFM 120mm fan.

  • Just use this simple formula to calculate how much GHz, your proc will be.

    MHz = M * BF

    M = Max Multipliers

    BF = BCLK Frequency

Keep in mind to track the heat of your processor. If this comes above 100 degrees it will do some serious damage to your pc. If this occurs, just put the BCLK Frequency down. Keep in mind this is on your own risk.

Any damage to your pc, means you suck @ Overclocking :3

  • I've been trying to figure out what "C0 / D0" stepping is.. what is the difference? more importantly what the hell IS it?? Please help.

seen the terms used all over the place but no one seems to mention exactly what "it" is..

  • ITA: Ha senso overcloccare una CPU che è già potente di suo?

ENG: Why overclock a powerfull CPU?

  • @NokiaN70Rulez - To make it even more powerful.

  • but what did you have fresh disc for vista and windows 7?

  • It is safe to use 24 / 7

  • @MyNaruto92 if you have a solid OC and a good cooling system yes but if you don't use your pc for heavy duty application you don't need it that high.

i got my i7920 at 3.6Ghz and is more than enough for daily use (mostly games)

  • @MyNaruto92 Just set your cpu to low power and usage to 60-65% minimum in power options and your computer will run at stock speeds - turbo speeds when you need it.

  • it is your microsoft vista ulimate 64 edition?

  • @bobctx - Yes in this video there was Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit used.

  • WiC and Crysis, you have good taste sir.

  • its true only for highly demanding application not permanent because o.c harm your

    cpu

  • wow! its score is equal and even more to intel core i7 980x!!!!! incredible! i hope it will work on my pc as well

  • Your desktop is a mess. Get some folders!

  • @RealSpZ - No thanks, I like to have a messy desktop.

  • will i achieve the same results even if i have 950?

  • @acheron0508 - Yes i7 950 can definately OC to 4.1GHz.

  • What's your cooler?

  • @XStorminTech - Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 + SilverStone 800~2600rpm 107.9 CFM 120mm fan.

  • too high voltage drop it down. 1.44 is too high and most ppl can get 4 Ghz with less then 1.40 v and what are your idle and load Temps...?

  • @zeke2400 - For C0/C1 stepping it's needed, D0 doesn't need nearly as much though. Idle is about 50C and load is below 80C.

  • @arvutihull xD sorry i forgot to read the "video description" ...are you cooling with Air or Water...?

  • @zeke2400 - Air.

  • @arvutihull 50c idle and 80c full load??!? Thats just killing it! get a better cooler LOL!

  • @Loche1337 - Below 80C for 24/7 use is completely fine for Core i7's.

  • @arvutihull Oh, hahha. Thats good :)

  • @Loche1337 That's true nub :)

  • Im getting a D0 cpu. Do i need to change the voltage?

  • @NGGWNextgenGameworld - Yes, would be recommended.

  • Good video, I am going to need this soon when I get a better than stock CPU cooler, my current rig you can find under my uploads except I swapped out the BFG GTS 250 for a XFX 5830. Also what CPU cooler do you recommend?

  • @TheMastroAntonio - Thanks, go with the same CPU cooler as me if you need an efficient cooler, Noctua NH-U12P SE1366.

  • @arvutihull Looks like a good one, thanks again.

  • @arvutihull 38 secs thats crazy lol. Just done it on my 3.8ghz q9550 and got 53 seconds, ye i beat the i7 but that was stock speed and only by 3 hyperthreading really helps. I really want to get the i7 970 at 4ghz lol

  • i personaly think all core i7 is fast enough! don't need to overclock or it's gonna be noisy, hot, lose life...

  • @johnchen0213 - If you have a high-end graphics setup then you do need to overclock your CPU, otherwise it will bottleneck the graphics cards.

  • @arvutihull i only do it for gaming

  • @johnchen0213 - Yes, for internet surfing it isn't needed... with i7's at least =)

  • @arvutihull well you need i should underclock mine if i only use it to play gta 4?

  • @johnchen0213 - No, GTA 4 is a very CPU dependant game, overclocking should definately increase the performance.

  • @arvutihull i was wondering... when would all the games be unplayable or outdated to our spec?

  • hey i wanna overclock my old old old p4 desktop from 2 ghz to 2.4 ghz... do i have to turn up the voltage

  • @BSUMusic - I don't know, I've never overclocked a Pentium 4 CPU myself.

  • I don't know. Im getting a i7 920 but don't know what that means.

  • @KMM747 - When you get the CPU and have the PC running, download CPU-Z and it's written next to ''revision''.

  • @arvutihull Okay! Thanks a lot!

  • Ok. If i overclock to 3.6ghz, would i need to turn up the voltage?

  • @KMM747 - Do you have a C0/C1 or D0 stepping?

  • Do you have to turn the voltage up to overclock?

  • @KMM747 - Depends on how high you'e overclocking, for slight overclocks it most likely isn't necessary.

  • @arvutihull is the 3.6 ghz overclocking for i7 920 will help in finishing bottlenecking the gtx 470 at stock clock any ideas?

  • @sam90495 - i7 920 at stock shouldn't bottleneck the GTX 470... depends on the resolution you're gaming at of course.

  • @arvutihull well i like to game at 1920x1080 with 4xaa to 8xaa and maxed settins often in all the games including crysis i was guessing that i can squeezer some extra fps in cryisis so i was gonna overclock it to atleast 3.6 ghz i have C0/C1 stepping like urs ok still do u think that i7 920 at stock speeds will feed my gtx 470s in sli at stock speeds?plz explain.thanx.

  • @sam90495 - Single GTX 470 + i7 920 should be good at 1920x1080, until you have one card the CPU doesn't bottleneck it. But if you go SLi about 3.6GHz would be recommended.

  • running my i7 930@ 4.6ghz :D watercooled max load temp is 72 <3

  • @TheDarre - Awesome =)

  • ehy man finally i have overclocked my 920 with success on 3.6!!! very easy! THANKS!!! but....if i want up to 4.1 ??? i have a noctua nhu12p like you...can i upgrade or i risk to see explode my cpu? XD

  • @FulmineScatenato - Check your temps. Below 80C is good... if it stays below 80C at 4.1GHz (at load) then go for it.

  • @arvutihull

1, these CPU are still stable at 90C

2, no damage is done as long as the stay under 100C or something stupid!

3, what the hell will you be doing to get a i7 4.1Ghz to 100% load? decoding 5TBs or porn?

  • @BKsMassive - No it's best to have it below 80C, if you run it at 90C 24/7 at load it will fry in a month, 2 months if you're lucky... 100C is very dangerous and most probably the CPU wouldn't survive a day being at 100C. I used Cinebench 10.

  • @arvutihull Rubbish, they been stress tested at Intel at far higher temperatures. You can't fry it. Its a misconception, at least at these temperatures. Above 80C and the performance of the CPU degrades to protect itself.

  • @CapitalGamer - Not true, it's like this with graphics cards when they reach 90C ( ATi 4000/5000 and nVidia series up to GTX 200), Intel CPUs don't decrease their performance when they reach 80C or anything higher... I've had a chance to test this rumor myself.

  • @arvutihull - And for sure the CPU will fry when you run it with temps higher than 80C 24/7.

  • Same Mobo Same Processor thanks 4 the vid

  • what have u got to cool your cpu ??

  • @ellzstudios - Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU cooler + SilverStone 800~2600rpm 107.9 CFM fan.

  • how do I find the video response to ''settings for 3,2GHz'' ? manually page through 644 comments? Please tell me another way. thanks

  • @idic5 - No scroll down from the video a bit, there are two responses - one about 3,66GHz settings and one for 3,2GHz.

  • Comment removed

  • @bookworm840 - Press DEL during post.

  • how fast do you think i will be able to overclock the 920 on the stock cooling?

  • @mfastx - C0/C1 stepping about 3,2GHz, D0 stepping about 3,6GHz. Temps need to stay below 80C to be safe.

  • @arvutihull and do you think i will be able to overclock to about 3.6 ghz with a 650 watt power supply?

  • @mfastx - Depends on what PSU it exactly is. But very probably yes.

  • @arvutihull OK thanks

  • @mfastx depends what other stuff you have but a 350w supply is ok for 3.6 just not a big gfx card, 650w withh one card should be no problem with sli or ccf i dont know, just check ur temps ;-)

  • Dude.. i have a H50 and im getting crazy temps.. on 3.6 they go to around 80 on full load, anything i can do? I have a Gigabyte UD7 mobo aswell...
