Absolutlely agree with howfar08.. we were there this past February... were back plenty from the water.. and a rogue wave hit and knocked my daughters down.. extremely scary situation.. I was 30 yards from them taking a picture and that wave came from nowhere.. there was no warning at all..
my advice is to NEVER turn your back to the ocean.. especially here.. you will pay for it.
We were there just last week (first week in April) and it was fairly calm but you have to be very careful. The incoming waves over the rocks can be deceptive. We were in the shallower end (opposite the ocean edge) to snorkel, and got pushed by the water into the rocks. It was a little scary. We got out right before bigger waves came in. Make sure you stay away from the ocean's edge or you can be pulled out to sea by any of the waves that come over the side. Heed howfar's advice!!!
Don't be fooled. This area is only safe in summer months. 8 or 9 months a year this is a deathtrap. People drown here every year not to mention countless rescuees, near drownings, broken bones and neck and back injuries from idiots jumping off rocks into too shallow water. BE CAREFUL!!!
