  • Thanks for the video. Nice tie

  • GREAT VID MAN!!

  • Thanks for the video. It was very helpful. It's the same on my '09 Forester except on mine, "lefty loosy" is counterclockwise. LOL

    Thanks again.

PS: Nix a tie, I'm gonna wear a tux when I change mine!

  • Wrenching on a Subaru in a tie like a boss.

  • Nice and simple but As far as tension I would recommend KRIKIT I v-belt tension gauge. This thing cost 15-20 bucks.

  • It is either this belt or the other belt that is causing the squealing, tightening it should resolve the problem. Yes it is the same; the wrx above is an '02.

  • I have an 02 WRX and i get a loud squeeling when i start my car in the morning that also happens when I turn the wheel. Is this the same belt? and similar on the 02?

  • @mdpomerantz6 check your power steering fluid and make sure your belt is nice and tight.. it might also need to be replaced

  • My man great video, helped quite a bit, a shop would probably charge $100+ to install new belt, such an easy and quick fix,

  • good video informative thanks

  • So if I wanted to just TIGHTEN that belt, I would lossen the first two you show and tighten the 3rd then retighten the 1st 2 again?

  • great vid! it s very informative. Do you have one showing how to change out the remaining belt?

  • how much did you pay for your replacement belt?

  • Dude, what's with the tie? :p

Either way, thanks for the video.

  • For sure! If you make it to Colorado look for the silver WRX driven by a naked dude. After working on the car in a tie there's nothin like nekked driving. Lol. Thanks again. You inspired me to post vids while I worked on my WRX WTF edition.

  • Hell yeah man! Thank you. I needed to replace the alternator belt and this was a great step one and intro. My STI is hot to trot again!

  • Awesome, thanks dude!!!

  • He doesn't screw it up... In New Zealand it's all backward. I wonder if he took his tie off after he finished working on his car? In all, I thank you for the helpful vid, but if you can change edit your title to say power steering/alternator belt. I'm watching this thinking you were going to change your timing belt with a tie on... that would've been even more pimp'n. You inspired me to change my timing belt in a tuxedo! :)

  • @HelpingColorado lol right on man! I dunno where to go from tuxedo but I went casual.

  • @HelpingColorado O and maybe I'll see you on the road. I'm assuming you're Colorado resident due to the awesome youtube name

  • thanks a lot for the video, made it look clear and simple. about to resurrect my pedoRX

  • Comment removed

  • thanks for the vid, you saved me from lot of head ache

  • anybody can replace that belt...try the timing belt with a tie on

  • why not just loosen the long tension bolt and leave it at that, and yeah i agree with the other guys you are pimp for wearing tie and changing a drive belt, haha

  • AND IN AN ORANGE TIE. good work dude

  • Awesome! Just changed my first belts ever. That was easy :) Should've done it a long time ago!

  • wtf surprising its not a MAZE :D

  • are u wereing a tie ?

  • mine is shredded to hell. but this is stupid how easy it is to put on

  • And I was going to pay someone to do this for me!! Thanks bro I also owe you a cold one

  • You shouldn't check the tension between the power steering pump and the alternator. You need to check the tension in the middle between the alternator and the crank pulley...

  • oh you're soo the man. i was on my way to the store when my serpentine decided to go bye bye like ten minutes ago. thanks to your vid i just saved a shit load from the stealership. thanks man need to buy you a beer.

  • nice tie

  • good vid!

  • haha that damn alternator bolthead stripped out on me, took two days for the stealership to get a new bolt in for me lol. OH AND BTW! be careful, on the back of the alternator bolt there is a piece of metal is on the back part of the bolt(its like a 7 inch bolt) If that comes off, have fun digging behind your alternator to grab it lol

  • It also works on a EJ18 in a 1993 Impreza, exactly the same procedure.

  • lovin the tie lol

  • Wrenchin on a car wearin a tie = win!!

  • Thank you sir. .25-.50 of an inch slack is perfect.

  • lefty loosey = counterclockwise

    righty tightey = clockwise

  • this helps!!! im working on my car right now... like right now right now. my hoods open and i got my size 12 ready! haha ran into a speed bump and found this vid.

  • What about the A/C belt?

  • This just saved me about $1000 bucks. thanx!

  • @billybobjimjoejacksn

$1000 bucks to change an alternator belt? lol

  • omg thanks man u da boss

  • You should also mention not to over tighten the belt because this could cause a squealing noise and exessive/premature belt wear, a good rule of thumb is to tighten it until you can twist the belt a half to a quarter of the way around

  • then run for 5 minutes and tighten again.

  • thanx 4 the help bro!!!

  • Oh! is that what they call it these days. A guy friend. I guess its all the same, life partner, partner, butt buddy. . LOL!

  • i don't ask my guy friends to help, i have my girlfriend do all the work... lol jk. thanks man i gotta change out my compressor belt soon...

  • He's screws up the clockwise thing...but man come on this guy is pimp, working on his car with a tie on?

  • @BrianTehPirate Bro he is in New Zealand. The clockwise/counterclockwise thing is backwards down there. But I agree on the pimpin tie bit

  • Googled "how to replace steering belt subaru wrx" this morning, this vid popped up. Thanks, That's all I needed.

  • Helpful except but he mis-speaks when it comes to turning the fasteners. Do the opposite whenever he says clockwise or counterclockwise.

Remember: Lefty = Loosey & Righty = tighty

  • Yea, especially when he says "lefty loosy clockwise."

    Still a good vid though.

  • Thanks...this was helpful
