@HASHEAVEN I listened to Manilla Road's 'The Deluge', 'Open the Gates' and 'Voyager' albums and they all sound the same dull. But strangely Voyager has damn clear acoustic guitars sound!
@Deghinsea132 yeah the drums sound pretty awesome on this album. they used standard microphones to record the drums so the percussion isn't edited in any way.
@TheThrashZone the drums sound like shit, because they can't place microphones correctly, hence all the phase problems. and this was the case with MR records since Gates of Fire. This is objective sound engineering fact.
@Arjozof i'm sure they know how to place there microphones correctly. its just a matter of if you like the raw drum sound that they produce. i personally love the drums on this album and someone else commented saying that the drums sound awesome. its only a matter of taste.
@TheThrashZone listen, I spent the last 12 years in various recording studios, and I can surely hear when the mikes are placed in accord with the art of proper sound engineering, and when they are placed in breach of the 3:1 rule, producing these phase error effects as on the last 3 MR albums.
Drums are raw and sound good because of the good drummer, but engineering-wise it is a flop. Check out "Metalowa Husarya" by Sorcerer, my old band - no triggers, full raw sound, no phase error effects.
well if its a mistake that the band is making then its a good mistake because the drums sound awesome on this album. i don't want every metal band to sound alike.
@TheThrashZone no, they don't sound awesome, the mix is blatantly weak, actually. The stereo imaging of the drums is appaling, and the rest of the instruments just don't gel into a coherent mass. Just listen to "Mystification" or other MR album from the 80s - that's what an awesome sound is.
@Arjozof well your the only person that i have got a negative comment from, of course they don't sound as awesome as they did in the 80's. bands that ruled in the 80's can't tap into that energy anymore. to me manilla road were and still are the only true archaic heavy metal band. and yes by todays standards playground of the damned is an awesome album.and i checked out your old band sorcerer you guys just sound like a generic power metal band. manilla road are original, unique and occult.
@TheThrashZone you completely misinterpret what I wrote. I've been a Manilla fan for years, but I only argue that their sound on the last 3 albums is inferior to Atlantis Rising for example, because Mark keeps on doing the engineering his own way, and it just doesn't sound ok sound-wise. Music is of course top notch, the last album is probably the greatest of all after the reunion - and it would really benefit from a bit more proper engineering. It ain't rocket science, for gods' sake
The music is amazing but the production is rubbish, even on a decent hi-fi it sounds like notebook speakers

@Arjozof That's just your opinion bro, I actually think the way these drums sound is perfectly fine, as quirky as it may be.
