I thoroughly enjoyed this game. It had very awkward cntrols to get into at first, but once you realize what they were going for this is an excellent tekken-style game And it was also Konami's way of finally having interactions between characters spanning the Castlevania timeline. I almost wish Leon, the first Belmont who defeated Matthias Cronqvist (Dracula's human form before he became Dracula with the bloodstone) would have made a cameo appearance to show the new kids a few tricks of his own.

I read the Japanese manual and it never says she was a boy. Only the English manuals insist she's a boy. Even her sprite doesn't imply she's a guy. Americans are just gender confused.

@TheouAegis Actually, the Japanese manual simply avoids the issue of her gender entirely, rather than outright tricking the player by saying that she's a guy. This is easier to do in Japanese than in English because Japanese verbs are not gender specific (like in Spanish, French, etc.) and do not require a subject (In English, you can't say "Is a vampire hunter." You have to say "HE/SHE is a vampire hunter.")

In the Symphony of the Night version (the cool one) there's a love triangle going on and Maria is much older. Richter likes Maria who grows fond of Alucard yet she cares about Richter.
