I agree, I think Gary took good care of her and really loved her and protected her. I don't understand why people dislike him so. It is not like he went after her and broke up her and Desi's marriage. After what Desi put her through, she needed a safe haven like Gary.

it really bothers me to hear lucy talk about how she loves gary and to see them together. i mean i guess it'sbecause it makes me sad that she wasn't with desi but i just get really bothered by it. but if lucy loved gary, which i know she did, i guess i'll have to deal with it.

Her interaction with Gary seems a little phony to me. not saying they didn't care for each other, and it's normal for people of an older age to re-marry for the sake of companionship rather than passion and love.

Even though to me Lucy and Desi were meant to be together I believe she was meant to be with Gary too. Without them she would never be the wonderful person she was. She loved both of them and they were both good for her.

@ApoloExpress I know what you mean. Desi even said "Our love was too powerful for both of us". I think that's what you mean. It was so passionate and so strong that it eventually tore them apart. I think she lasted longer with Gary because she didn't feel that and therefore didn't care as much what he did and didn't do which would equal less arguments.

I agree with all the comments.  Gary seems boring. Lucy and Desi seem to have intense unspoken Chemistry together. You could see the love between Desi and Lucy. Gary seemed more of a marriage of convenience. Gary was probably good to her. However, Desi seem to speak to her soul. I remember seeing the speach Desi made about coming to America. Lucy had tears in her eyes. They felt each other deep in the soul.

I have difficulty accepting Gary, just 'cos she was clearly meant to be with Desi. And I've always seen that friendship spirit between them and not the love that she and Desi had. It's so sad they split. But I know it was very hard on both of them - to part and to stay together.

if you think about it Lucy only loved Desi she loved Gary but not they way she loved Desi and that her and Gary were more like good friends than how she was with Desi or still was since they were both still madly in love with each other if you read their books and stuff you will see :) its amazing romantic and sad since they divorced but yea people still considered them married seeing how much they loved each other they would even announce their anniversary's on TV :)

In these series of Merv Griffin interviews from 1974 it's all about her, her, her. Nothing about Desi and his hard work that if not for him, she wouldn't be as good. yes she did 2 other series, but they couldn't touch the hem of the phenonomen of Ilove Lucy. Theres never mention of Desi from Lucy's lips

unless it's negative. She probably thought she got those kids on her own too. Gary Morton

was a swell guy but, it's sad that he was in Desi's shadow and was swallowed by Lucy's ego

and fame.

You obviously don't know much about Lucille Ball. She's not taking full credit for her success here and never did. When asked, she always gave most of the credit to Desi and her writers. In fact, she brings up the writers in this very show, given them the credit. Whenever people brought up the success of Desilu, she would say "Desi did it" and talk about his great business acumen. I've read her autobiography, and she is overly generous towards Desi with regard to her success.

More to the point, she and Desi spoke on the phone at least once a week until the day he died, and she always turned to him for career advice. Two days before he died, daughter Lucie held the phone to her father's ear as her mother told him over and over "I love you." Poor Gary had to spend his entire marriage to Lucy dealing with Lucy's continuing love for Desi. She more than once referred to Desi as the love of her life.

I think sometimes our minds play tricks on us. I was recently watching the "Lucy & Harry's Pot" episode of HL, and there's a scene where Lucy's learning to make pottery. At one point, she's says "Oh kick!" I thought for sure she was saying "Oh sh**!" I was amazed this got past the editors & censors and sent the clip to some friends. Several agreed with me, but one pointed out she said "kick." I came home, listened again, and suddenly it was soooo perfectly clear she was saying "kick."
