@jonnagod: Uhm, maybe you need to reread my comments. I didn't insult Kissin, I completely applaud and admire his rendition and technical genius. I have nothing but the highest admiration and respect for Kissin.
he's too heavy for me. i much prefer van cliburn or lang lang. they treat the piece with delicacy that his fellow lacks. sorry for expressing my opinion on youtube.
@dubbyagee1: Furthermore, having witnessed both Kissin and Lang Lang live, I can honestly say that Lang Lang is overtly sentimental and has too many affectations in his playing. This is MY opinion! I'm entitled to it. I will not attack you for your opinion though. Diversity of opinion, after all, is the hallmark of a civilzed society. As such I will respect you for opinion rather than choose to denegrate you through personal attacks.
@Dubbyagee1: Firstly, I did not give you permission to insult me or tell me I have no emotional depth. How dare you!!!! Secondly, I am entitled to my opinion-Lang Lang is widely considered, by serious musicians, as a bafoon. Thirdly, both Kissin and Li are virtuosos of the highest calibre. My comment was general and you made it personal. Do not do that!
@Chopin1974l Did Mr. Kissin give you permission to insult him? When stones hurt you, it's best not to throw them yourself, lest you become a hypocrite.
Chopin 19741 - whoever you are - you have no depth to your soul or to music. This is not the emotional experience you get in the presence of Lang Lang in a recital. This is way too stuffy and shows no depth of feeling for me.
This really is the definitive rendition. He adheres to the score as if it were glue. Then, for good measure, adds in just the right amount of interpretive genius to excel it well above renditions like the very poorly played Lang lang rendition. Yundi Li's is amazing but I think Kissin give the opening more expanse to breathe. Yundi's is a little rushed.
@FerozaLaBonne I agree - Yundi Li is my favorite contemporary pianist. Nothing away from Kissin, who is a great artist. Yundi just has something deep and indefinable that speaks powerfully to me.
I'm usually a great fan of Kissin, but have to say that this recording seems rather hurried and a bit too aggressive in the middle section. Lang Lang's interpretation of this piece is more measured and much more tender.
Evgeny Kissin breathes the heart and soul of whichever composer he is performing. Whether it is the ever-so-loving Schumann "Widmung" or the Schumann Piano Concerto or Beethoven, Chopin, Moussorgsky or Mozart I always find Love expressed and know in my heart that Kissin's talent is truly inspired. I long for the day when I can hear him in person.
beautiful. Kissin encored with this piece when i saw him last night -- along with liebestraume 3 (his third encore), some of the most touching playing i've ever heard. A flat is an incredibly intimate key and kissin is an emotive player.

His music is power and in balance between the left hand and right hand. Very nice and strong. A talent with expression.

I totally disagree, the best best version ever comes from Cyprien Katsaris. This is how the piece is meant to be!
